It's amazing to think this movie is based on Frank Dux, a guy who in real life probably couldn't fight his way out of a crowded corner in an Apple Store.

At the time, they didn't know the sheer amount of crap he had made people believe. But, the movie had the necessary requirements for the 90's: Martial arts, violence, one-liners and a good cast of established and emerging star actors and martial artists. and it's still getting watched in the 2020's.

There’s some mom and pop theaters that show old school movies. In Chicago they have one where they occasionally show movies from all eras. I’d Google a vintage theater in your area and ask them to play Bloodsport!

I always liked how the judges had a couple of stacks of bricks at the admission desk ready to go just in case some gaijin trying to pass himself off as a ninja clan member needed to be vetted by performing a technique exclusive to that clan first to see if the roundeye was indeed legit.

@@805oxnardsocal when this movie originally came out in the 80s they made it out to be that it was fully based on actual events but in truth Frank Dux (who did actually exist) never fought in the “Kumite” and made the entire story up. In fact many people say he would more often than not get his ass kicked at most martial arts tournaments.

Totally low key observation, but when the scene starts, there's no sign of Chung Li anywhere. Then when all the fighters gather to watch Frank perform the Dim Mak, Chung Li appears from the background like a menacing shadow. It's kind of creepy.
