The Korean guy is shown using Tang Soo Do. This is an anachronism (not the only one in the movie, BTW) since Tang Soo Do did not emerge until the end of World War 2. Traditional Korean martial arts are very different. The movie does Korean martial arts a disservice since the Korean guy never throws a single kick. He should have held his own much better.

@otisbeck53274 жыл бұрын
The Spanish fighter was played by Albanian martial artist, fight choreographer, film producer and director Peter Malota. He has worked with JCVD in many films. Though Malota's background is Taekwondo, his character's fighting style is similar to the French fighter's Savate.
@jacopieterse18924 жыл бұрын
It sounded like some kind of Spanish Matador Kung fu. Is that a good name for that style?
@otisbeck53274 жыл бұрын
@@jacopieterse1892 the Spanish (Basque) version of Savate is Zipota. That is probably the Spanish fighter's style. Basque foot fighting has leaping kicks as well.

vegan4 life You obviously don't know shit about the history of MMA or the UFC. The UFC used to pit fighting style vs fighting style (Karate vs Jiu Jitsu for example) in the beginning. The thing is real life fights aren't like the movies. They get up close and nasty, and almost always ends up on the ground, no matter what the discipline of the fighters were. Watch the first UFC tournaments. You might actually learn something.

The storyline of this movie was pure cheeze but ironically, I have never seen a better display of martial arts in any movie. Not that I'm an expert but the choreography was awesome and there were so many fighting styles on display. I recommend this movie to anyone for that reason. Ironically, I don't think this movie captured much attention so it is highly underrated.

I thought Van Damme did a good job with this movie, you can tell by the filming it was high budget, I loved that it showed all styles around the world. Though it is cheesy at times with some dialogue and slowed down fighting scene I still love it. I thought he did a good job directing and writing this movie. Only thing that kills me is that he basically did 5 different versions of the same movie. No retreat, no surrender-similar to bloodsport-but with karate kid Kickboxer- similar to bloodsport- but like rocky 4 Lionheart- similar to bloodsport- but like Charles Bronson’s hard times The quest- similar to bloodsport-basically a higher budget bloodsport
@user-lu8dx3hk3n5 жыл бұрын
No Retreat, No Surrender is the movie didicated to the memory of Bruce Lee. It is like the transition boundary from time of master Bruce to the new rising star of Van Damme. He was not making this movie, just got a role there. Blood sport is the classical and legendary movie so to speak the sample of best martial arts movies ever. The shape of Van Damme in Blood Sport is just superb. That movie became his business card. Kickboxer had another scenario the revenge for his brother, he is becoming the great fighter to beat the shit out bloody Tong Po. Lionheart is the movie about fights for money having reference to the time when Van Damme had to survive in severe US and fight in underground ring. Anyway another masterpiece came out. And finally the Quest was his own creation, interesting movie in traditional style of Van Damme. All of them are excellent and natural worth to be seen for hundreds times.
