Comparing Ed to the best musicians throughout history would make more sense to a lot of people cuz it's more of an apples to apples comparison then. He's considered the modern day Mozart and i agree. Songs like intro to women in love, dance the night away, intro to pleasure dome, and 316 really showcase Ed's whimsical side which I believe can be compared to some of Mozart's pieces which were also whimsical in nature. Those songs from Ed that I just mentioned were beautiful and perfect; very melodic. Then of course you have solos like eruption and spanish fly which provide listeners with that other worldly in your face "WOW" reaction. And that's just the beginning of Ed's music. Ed was a genius of the modern era.

Why is this so tight, so groovy, so chaotic, and so moving? Not just a lifetime of practice. When they put the band back together in the mid-aughts, I honestly think Eddie knew, somewhere deep inside that his time on earth was limited. That is why it was so important to him that he brought Wolfie into the band; he loved that guy more than anything in the world. And it was so important for both of them to be able to spend as much time together as they could AND make music together. I was originally a little bummed when Michael Anthony wasn’t asked back to reunite the OG Van Halen, but I couldn’t be happier for the way things played out. Oh, and Wolfgang didn’t miss a freaking a beat on the bass. His backing vocals were on point too. Life has a funny way of working things out the way they were meant to be. Case in point right here. RIP Eddie!

If you haven't read it, you really need to read "Eruptions: Conversations with Eddie Van Halen." You're pretty much spot on. I don't know that Eddie knew he was dying at this point, and in fact, I think up until the last few months he probably thought he would make it through. But there was a palpable sense with him that he was done with addiction and all drama, and that the greatest joy in his life was playing music with Alex and Wolf. He mentions a number of times in the book that as a kid, his favorite moments were playing music with Alex and his dad. But around this time in his life, he said playing with Alex and Wolf was even better. He loved that kid so much. Now I'm gonna go watch WVH "Distance" and cry for four hours.

They were great, but not the same anymore. Saw them from a few feet away about four times. The rest, I wasn't so close. I'm a guitarist. Eddie holds the pick wrong...supposedly, lol. He used a thin pick, and he tossed many of them out into the crowd. He literally put one directly into my friend's hand in 1980. Bent right over, and made sure he put it right in the palm of his hand. Anyway, I play. I figured I'd be much better equipped to learn their songs, if I was standing right there watching exactly how he did it. Yeah, great. I knew HOW he did it. I just couldn't do it myself, lol! Crazy to think the once 20 year old grandma who leads our church worship saw this pinnacle of rock before they were successful.

OK, one more comment. A lot of people here are talking about the dead crowd just standing there with their cellphones. I have a different take. People were stoked during Hot For Teacher. Paying attention. Cheering. Impressive, given that most probably wouldn't have bought tickets for a VH show. As soon as Eddie started Eruption, the true believers STFU to hear him. The rest were stunned into silence within a few seconds. Both groups took out their cellphones because they KNEW that they were recording something very special. Both groups showed great respect by keeping silent during a mind-blowing live performance by a virtuoso at the same level as Isthak Perlman and Yuja Wang. (look them up, thank me later.) I've been a fan since VH I, and this is one of the best live versions of Eruption I've ever seen. It's even more special because of the elapsed time between their first album and this performance. IMO, among other rock bands, only Rush has done the same. Remarkable. When they broke into You Really Got Me, the audience was still in awe. Naturally, they didn't react much. It takes time to process a stunning performance from a game-changing musician who had honed his craft and technique over decades. And did any of you haters stick around until the end? The crowd went wild. Sheesh.

This is fantastic work! The music industry is broken if these guys are not in the mainstream and we have to dig to find their songs. I wish someone would start recognizing them

Go out and see a Mammoth WVH show. Wolf is a phenomenal musician, and watching him play is an amazing experience. They're on tour right now, and tickets are very affordable.

This is the first time I remember Alex smiling on stage! At the 7:56 minute mark, Alex is smiling his behind off! God Bless EVH, and the entire EVH family!

So sad he went so soon... a tragic loss for us, the fans, but especially for his brother, son, and wife.

It's 2024, I sill miss Eddie every day since his passing. I'm not one of those people that gets down everytime I hear about someone passing, this one hit me hard. Rest in peace Eddie thank you for inspiring me to play guitar thank you for the memories you provided. Eddie would say, "I Will Always be with you, just push play."

Damn 🤩.. I get chills every time I hear Eruption. EVH was truly tremendous. Too bad we couldn't hear Wolfie play a bit from Running with the Devil on this clip. Oh and it was very nice seeing Dave in front of the band. I was only 14, and in Michigan, when Van Halen hit it huge . They never played Michigan much until Sammy joined the group.

With one fell swoop, Eddie Van Halen nailed the coffin shut on disco and ushered in a dozen years of guitar virtuosity and shredding. Always replicated…Never duplicated. RIP EVH 🙏♥️

they had to play it at gazzari's and outher clubs around hollywood. most bands had to do covers if they wanted to work. owner wanted the crowd dancing. once they made their mark, they let it go. @@scottmasson3039

I so wish these guys could have sorted out problems and given the fans a last stadium tour with EVERYONE involved throughout the years. Geez ,even Alex looks like he's having a good time...😂 Glad Wolfie got to REALLY play with his Dad, he's so on his way to being a monster in his own right.. Thanks for all the tunes gentlemen..

Back in the day, both Dave and Eddie had undeniably huge stage presence. Incredibly, even in this clip, Eddie still had huge stage presence…whereas Dave looks like somebody trying desperately for attention. Although kudos to Dave, he soldiered on during this show, after bopping himself pretty badly across the nose with the microphone stand
