Fourth single from their 1986 album, "5150", peaking at #33 in 1986 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Tweaked the colour correction and corrected the aspect ratio as well as added enhanced audio. Hope you enjoy!

I know you’ll never see this reply- but you nailed it with “lightening in a bottle.” This was the greatest VH concert ever. To me. Greatest vocals, greatest band brothers (b4 egos and drugs) and greatest harmony ever. Gotta have MIKEY.❤ As you said.. no gimmicks, no flaming towers, nothin but PURE MAGIC and JOY! I had to chuckle.. bc Sam is screaming “YALL ON TV NAW!!!”🤟🏼like a time capsule..🫦 Who’d ever guess that even that lil comment would make this even more powerful. I’m forever grateful I got to see these maestros in concert at every stage…including camping out on sidewalks for tickets. (Except with the Great Gary Cherone. Love him so much!)

@Dave R. In my opinion, the live version is better as it has a lot more punch than the studio version. It just sounds flat on record. Some songs just happen to be that way, for example, Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me". The studio version is boring, but the live version is so much better. Alex knows what's on the tapes. The good thing is that in these modern times it's a lot easier to get collabs together wherever people are at and we see a lot of people like Steve Lukather and others who are becoming very accessible not only in their maturity but in that many people they know have passed and they really are broadly reaching out as much as they can, some more than others...but the latest results Ozzy has had with stem cells might herald a coming time when we really don't have to lose anyone any more. All eyes on Ozzy - I'm pretty serious about that. I don't want to lose anyone else this is ass and if we can stop it we kind of have a moral obligation as custodians of human experience and knowledge to make it happen.

@icidistorsion3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it was "miles better". I think they are more in tune, and Hagar sings perfectly in key most of the time. The show is "technically" better. But in no way were the Van Hagar shows "better" : they totally lacked that sense of danger and unpredictability of the Roth era. They were not wild rock shows anymore, they were perfect by-the-numbers pop/rock shows for the whole family to enjoy. No cursing, no weirdness. And while Hagar is a perfectly fine singer and frontman (I dow own some of his solo stuff), he doesn't have the craziness of the greats and the legendary. His moves and attitude are pretty generic. He's a fine employee but definitely not an innovator in any way.

@@icidistorsion I meant musically/technically they're much better. I understand early VH was about so much more. Early Roth was great, especially the screams. He just got a bit annoying and got too big headed and also more interested in the persona than the music. 6 albums over 6 years with Roth was perfect. The Hagar fronted van halen from 85-96 was way better than what would have been had Roth stayed. I do prefer the original VH though!

@@briancunningham9037 Well, who really knows what would have been with him staying ? 1984 was astonishing. Skyscraper and EAAS by Roth are quite untouchable.. I actually love Roth's work in its entirety, he always did take some risks that were crazy. I guess VH was a way more oiled-machine after he left, focusing on not losing their audience and creating some hits, whereas Roth always was more of a wild card. That said, I'm happy some "new" Roth stuff his coming up, as you may have noticed today : kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKTHhYSknM94a7s To me, he's like a big cousin, a way of life. Living life to the full. What fascinating character, despite his flaws and all !
@briancunningham90373 жыл бұрын
@@icidistorsion I liked the two solo albums, but think this was to do with the great band he had (the one with Becker was quite weak unfortunately). But the van Hagar albums were much better imo. I love that there's two very different van halens. I dunno, I just can't really listen to Roth now. Like he can't even sing songs like jump anymore, FFS it's the easiest song in the world to sing?

Had this concert on VHS, recorded when it was aired on HBO, and I watched the shit out of it. I was in Middle School at the time, so as much as I loved it, I can appreciate it for what it is all there years later. Hadn’t seen it in about 20yrs, and watched it when Eddie passed away. It was a viewing party from guitar teacher Mike Palmisano’s yt channel. Kinda cool knowing you’re watching with all the other listeners. Anyway, I’d almost forgotten how good they were back then, and they were putting on a clinic for having the most fun imaginable for a rock concert. This tune, and the 5150 are some of my all time favorites, not just for VH. Sadly, I never saw them live, and it’s forever on my concert bucket list. At least I have this, and all the other great VH music left behind.
