This is from my favorite DLR era VH album Fair Warning from 1981
@kevinmclaughlin10922 ай бұрын
Never saw this one before but man, this just proves what us die hards have always said and known. The Sammy era was very popular and successful for the band for sure, but the original lineup with DLR, and those first six VH albums were truly groundbreaking. There's really no comparison in the studio or live. This is the lineup that blew Journey & Sabbath off the stage in 1978 as an opening act.

David, I was at the same concert, they did three nights, July 20,21,22, 1981 because they were in such demand, I went to 20th and 21st of July shows, incredible concerts, I was 15 going on 16 years old, I had a blast.

@@davehess1019 you're a philly guy? my second time seeing them, previously the year before on the World Invasion tour in 1980, 6 rows on the floor in front of the man himself. right side facing the stage is were Eddie always played. that's the one i remembered the most, I was sober. lol (I was a senior in HS then).

@@davidenders9282 yeah, I'm from 30 miles west of Philly, so I'm a Philly guy, lol, The World Invasion Tour, so cool, I had a few beers the one night I went with 3 of my buddies, I had to keep my wits about me, someone had to with the knuckle heads I was with, I ended up driving home that night and I didn't even have my driver's license yet, I was the only one sober enough to drive home, I wanted to get home safe and everyone else home safe.

NicknLex, you have no idea how much enjoyment I get out of how much you two enjoy these music videos, when I was a kid, I would get a new album or cassette tape, I would drive my brother or sister crazy to listen to my new music with me and they had no interest, so I listened alone, I didn't have anyone to enjoy the music with, my sister used to pick on me about how passionate I was about music, so I appreciate you enjoying this music with me, music literally saved my life when I was a teenager, I had a very rough childhood and I used music to escape the real world.

True story: After a night of outside entertainment two friends and I retired to the basement of one friend for some billiards, during which time my one friend attempted one of those scissor kicks only to catch his foot on the pool table and go down...hard. Fortunately, the alcohol level was enough to absorb the fall, and the evening's activities continued, unabated. Great upload.

In their club days Alex told Eddie to turn his back during his solos because NOBODY played like Edward. Nobody. So, Alex told him to conceal what he was doing so that nobody ripped him off. After they hit, that was not the case. People were going to SEE Eddie. He was THE focus. So, nothing was "hidden" onstage anymore at that point. The reason you don't see Ed much in this video is they really didn't know how to film this stuff back then. The lead singer was always the focus for cameramen, as were faces as opposed to what a player's hands were doing. It was the early days. Everybody was learning.

Ironically I saw Van Halen supporting Black Sabbath back in 1978 on their first UK tour, so David Lee Roth was the vocalist. However I would much rather have had Sammy Hagar and the fact that Sammy plays guitar, even if it was only rythmn, helped free up Eddie Van Halen to play other instruments. Oh btw they blew Black Sabbath off the stage.

This is a deeper cut off one of their lesser-known albums, Fair Warning. But IMO it's their best album. The entire album crackles with this exuberant bad- boys energy. Do yourselves a favor and listen to the entire thing. You won't be sorry!

Thank you, both! I’ve been waiting for you to react to this!! EVH was a great rhythm lead guitarist. 5150, I’m the One and Feel Your Love Tonight are tunes that showcase his rhythm leads. I disagree with your DLR assessment on vocals only. He was a better showman than Sammy, but DLR was vocally limited live. The early songs by Van Halen were the best, imho.

The Dave era was ground breaking with all six albums and the Sammy era was more melodic and radio friendly while the Gary era is unspoken of and forgettable as for Jason Becker he recorded one album with Dave called A Little Ain’t Enough which was Dave’s third record not to mention his first 2 records Eat ‘Em And Smile and Skyscraper which featured Billy Sheehan on Bass and Steve Vai on guitar and Gregg Bissonnette on drums for all 3 records

I`ve know so many of the songs you have reacted to on the channel and the amazing thing is when i`m watching you, the songs moves on to another level, which is fantastic.- I`m a little bit uncertain if I can recommend artists here, but I will try. You like Snarky Puppy and I don`t know if you know about the band Dirty Loops but I would love to see you react to it. They play jazz-fusion and pop, rock, soul, classical in a mix. Quincy Jones is backing them up. Three guys and great musicians. If I play a song of theirs I have a silly smile on my face for the rest of the day.- If you listen to them it might be good to starts with is " work sh-t out" or "thriller". When they play "thriller" they do it along with Corey Wong, and he has this mindblowing hornsection behind him. Just an idea. Tomas Agua.
