It still amazes me, how Eddie could sound just like the album recording. Unreal! RIP EDDIE.

@@davehess1019 Yeah it was the usual - great musicians playing fun music excellently- and with Sammy acting as the party host. A real blast, lots of great music - band looks like they were having a lot of fun, too. We had around 16,000 people there (a full house for this facility). If you get a chance, I’d say go.

The faces you guys made when Eddie started going to town. Years ago a guitar teacher told me one of the things that separated Eddie from others was how he broke up his solos. He wasn't doing what others were doing, ripping scales up and down the neck covering the circle of 5ths and then some. He broke it up into sections, throwing in little things here and there, making you wanting for more. That's what made Eddie Van Halen who he was. Keep rockin'.

Excellent David! One of my favourite Van Halen albums, and this was the album opener Alexia. This was Sammy's second album in the band and the story goes that the title, 'Oh You Ate One Too', was in response to David Lee Roth's solo album of that time called 'Eat 'Em and Smile'. I like both line-ups, so really looking forward to the next Van Halen reaction. Thanks guys.

You really hear the Holdsworth influence on Summer Nights, particularly the live version from Live Without a Net. Ed's main influence was actually Eric Clapton, which sounds weird. But, if you know VH you can notice and hear the Clapton influence.

I began listening to Van Halen when David Lee Roth was with them. I like almost everything they did. When David was kicked and Sammy was introduced to the band that I didn't really know who he was except for that I Can't Drive 55 song. When their first album with the new lineup came out my fears were I'll leave and this song was my favorite off of that album. But unlike their songs with Roth, I found myself liking fewer and fewer of the newer songs. To this day if I listen to Van Halen, I usually pull out any of their first five albums, and occasionally pull out OU812. 5150 , or For Uncarnal Carnal Knowledge to hear a few select songs.

You’re wrong, it’s about the late 70’s Taxi serie. OU812 was written on a wall. It’s because it’s the phonetic translation of ‘’oh you ate one too’’, but it’s not an answer to the DLR’s Eat Up And Smile album.
