If that exhaust conduit has any upslope it will collect condensation, block the flow of exhaust, blow the gasket, and leak exhaust into the heated air going into your cabin. And i mean even if you park on a hill it will do this. Best to not have that long run. Best to drop the pipe straight down through the floor. Good luck
@Tward522419 күн бұрын
Great build,ahle! My only suggestion would be to maybe extend the exhaust pipe out from under the van so it vents away from van not underneath. The fumes could potentially pool up under the van and seep back in through cracks and holes. Keep up the good work ,look forward to your videos!

I'm sure you already have one, but just throwing it out there, make sure your carbon monoxide detector is working.

yea I'd get two, one near the pipes and another high against the wall just for added safety.

As others have mentioned, important tips so you don't unalive yourself and live to boulder another day. Fire and CO2 unaliving are a real thing here. Fire, avoid at all costs. CO2 poisoning, avoid at all costs. Triple check everything often, while the unit is functioning. Redundant and reliable CO2 alarm monitors are critical so you don't unalive yourself in your sleep. Research and be aware of CO2 poisoning symptoms (hypercapnia or hypercarbia). Always have a secondary CO2 monitor on hand in the event your heater comes with one (aka always have a safety rope and or partner). You will need to either elevate the heater so the exhaust port remains higher than the downward slope of the exhaust port as it exits the vehicle, or lower the downward slope of the exhaust port towards the exit. The distance you have surrounding the exhaust port looks sufficient for safe use, so elevating the heater may be the only option here. This is to ensure that condensation build up does not fill the exhaust port tube (and silencer if used), causing CO2 to pool in your vehicle (aka unaliving). Porting the exhaust externally, away from the vehicle, while ensuring you park with your exhaust port where the wind carries the CO2 away from the vehicle is critical (e.g. prevent CO2 pooling under and re-entering the vehicle, as others have mentioned). Other videos will demonstrate the exhaust port thermals, reaching thermal ignition levels of most material. Look into exhaust heat wrap for both the internal and external pipes. The tape holding the insulation over your wheelwell is a potential fire hazard at that 3 inch distance. The bungie will melt or catch fire, so you'll need a reliable support solution, or remove the internal heat pipe altogether (this unit will heat your space in just a few minutes and maintain on low settings in most conditions). Symptoms of carbon dioxide poisoning include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, rapid breathing, fast heart rate, and flushing (warmth, redness, or tingling of the skin). Symptoms of severe cases of carbon dioxide poisoning may include confusion, convulsions, and loss of consciousness.

Dont run the pipe in the van just drill a hole and go down under the vehicle like other ppl said. It will leak. The hose clamps they give you are weak. You want stainless Tbolt clamps. 26-28mm i think. The silencers leak. Vent it a few inches from the underside so fumes go up. Get a co detector or2. If running on low all the time gotta run on highest setting 15 mins every couple days to keep from sooting up

For safety, I recommend attaching a flex hose exhaust extension vent the fumes further away if your car is stationary. I do that when I'm working on my car with the engine on so the garage doesn't smell. Neat idea!

Trucks have been using the Espar D2 type of heaters for years. Lots of heat output. Run some kerosene through it occasionally to help with carbon build up. Direct exhaust out the floor is better than a long run. Even on low power, those put out plenty of heat when it's below freezing outside.

Also, my heater originally was exhausted straight down under my van also It didn’t take very long to figure out that the exhaust will accumulate underneath of your van, and it will rise up Which means the exhaust will rise up and try to get into any hole you have existing in your van, so be sure all the holes are sealed up really well Well, I eventually did is ran the exhaust right out the side of my van so my exhaust sticks out about 2 to 3 inches past the side of my van that way when it exhaust up it goes it doesn’t go under my van I sealed everything up as good as I could, but I could still smell it, and I was still getting headaches But after I made the pipe make a 90° turn and come out the side of my van so it’s not directly under it. That’s what it stopped. 😎👍

Good job. I also drilled a hole in my van in that spot but on the left side. The reason was to keep my air compressor locked inside the van while I ran a hose to where I was using my nail guns. If I remember right, you have an AC converter box in your van too? I saw that you were using an extension cord from that building for this demonstration.

You should go to Home Depot and get a carbon monoxide detector and put it down underneath there I’m sure if it ever starts leaking you’ll be able to tell because you’ll get a headache and you’ll be able to tell the smell But you could mount it underneath your bed 👍😎 I have a gasoline heater in my van. It comes right off my gas tank. Total game changer !!! Those heaters like that is very little fuel and they heat very well. Good choice. 😎👍

Diesel heaters are the best. The only issue i have with my Webasto is at the lowest setting, its too hot sometimes 🥵 ...i have to keep a window open a bit even when its getting into the 20s out. I got a small half sized jerry can rack for the back door and keep it filled with a few gals of diesel. I am in the northeast and have gone weeks in 20s to 40s and never ran out of fuel. The nice dry heat is also helpful for window condensation. 👍

Hello Hobo. the diesel heater that you have installed, I would like you to take the exhaust pipe directly to the heater if you can for your safety because it is dangerous for life to have the pipe in the car if there is a leak on it and you are sleeping it would not be so good okay Kind regards Mike/ Sweden

Not a good idea to extend the exhaust better to move the unit to where the exhaust will exit, reason being the extension peace of pipe will heat up alot and put off toxic fumes.
@wes5210119 күн бұрын
It should be fine if she takes some time to heat it up while the van is opened up and let it run for an hour or two. Any off gassing will happen with the first burn. After that she should be fine.
@imapadlock19 күн бұрын
I agree, the exhaust needs to exit as near as possible to the heater with no extensions.
@wes5210119 күн бұрын
@@imapadlock extending the exhaust won't hurt it at all. The only thing it could possibly impact is back pressure and that isn't an issue with an open pipe.
@imapadlock19 күн бұрын
@@wes52101 if it’s running inside the living space it is. More joints = more risk.
@jamesyahn19 күн бұрын
@@wes52101Not true. The extended pipe will not allow for the back pressure and will more likely cause the unit to soot faster due to running rich and error out. There are plenty of YT videos testing this out. These heaters are super finicky.

There is a reason why everyone says to not install an all in one unit into a vehicle. You have 3 common failure points inside a vehicle that IF/WHEN they fail, will fill the vehicle with Carbon Monoxide. This unit is especially a terrible design as it puts the exhaust at the rear of the unit. I hate seeing youtubers do this dumb stuff because someone is going to watch this, copy it, and possibly die. I shouldn’t care but seeing someone do a dumb install just makes my blood boil. lol
