Saudade is a Portugese word. My paternal grandparents, along with my father, were from Portugal. When my grandfather would go out on his long fishing trips to support his family, my grandmother would often use the word saudade, pronounced sow-dod to express her longing for my grandfather to come home from fishing. While my grandmother knew these fishing trips were necessary, the melancholy feeling of missing my grandfather would sometimes appear. I have not heard the word saudade in quite some time. Thank you for bringing back fond memories of my summers with my grandparents in the Azores.

This is something I’ve done for over 40 years. When I realize my dog is getting older. I will take time and locate a puppy or much younger dog. My current dog will help in the selection of the next dog. It will grow and learn from the older dog. Learn how to just simply be a dog and companion. When the older dog passes, they all do and it rips out our heart. The new dog will be able and prepared to step into her new role in life. This really helps us and them

True. My Rory was 12. A Pomeranian mix and the smartest wee boy. Never neutered but never left my side 🐾♥️ We were dealing with a huge tumour on his front wrist. Couldn’t operate they said due to his heart and numbers if allergies. My son got me Sorcha Claire then , a Siberian husky and she grew up with Rory♥️ And is SO much like him now. Rory had the surgery as a last resort when the tumour broke open when it stretched the skin to capacity. I PRAYED and PRAYED. Absolutely terrified but he made it 😊🙏 GOD be thanked. He healed great and lived to almost 19. I had to make that horrible decision at the vets office when what I thought was infected teeth were cancer in his sinus, behind one eye and stomach cancer 💔💔😪 Sorcha helped me so much to handle that and each time I’d cry, she’d be RIGHT THERE. She birthed her puppies early, the night he died. Vet said stress ,, everyone was breeched and end up at emergency at 2 am for supervision. Terrified I’d lose her too. She did good but I had her spayed after the puppies went to their homes It was her 4th litter and now she’s enjoying retirement 😊. ( my son is a breeder )

We've kinda done the same over time but, we get a rescue and let them have many years together and sometimes add in another after six years or so. We do this so when the oldest passes on to their final destination the second doesn't go into a depression, we experienced that before, so we got another rescue. We have four girls all together now, I call two of them my big girls and then the other two are my littles, they are like six pounds vs the eighty and forty pound big girls. Dogs are amazing and love to be in packs, when possible.

I think these are the two happiest dogs on the whole planet. During the scenes were you are just filming and we can peer into your life, I get overwhelmed with emotion during the moments you share with Akela. Truly a beautiful relationship and one that I wish more people treasured with their dogs. Thank you for sharing with us.

Happy Belated Birthday to Akela (and Kobuk too lol)! This was such a sweet video. I lost my girl in January after 13 wonderful years. She was mischievous like Akela when it came to food.. But she was so cute I could never stay mad. Sometimes it's still a little bittersweet to see people with their pups, but Akela's eyes remind me of my girl. There is a sweet gentleness that just melts your heart.

I wanted to let you know that although I'm twice your age, I've learned things from you about being yourself to the outside world. I was raised to be "feminine", which at the time meant downplaying my abilities. I love that you allow yourself to be you. You are putting good out into the world, and I'm happy for you and proud of you. You inspire me!

I spent 37 years working E.M.S. Our first vehicles we worked out of were van ambulances. It was a challenge. You only had access to the PT.s left side, which meant when you were starting an IV you had access to the PT.s left AC. (Left inner arm vein). If you blew it, you had an almost impossible time trying to start an IV on the Pts.' right AC which was up against the wall ,as the stretcher was mounted against the inside left wall of the rig. There was a chair at the Pts.' head, which helped when bagging the PT. (Inserting a tube down the Pts.' airway, attaching a plastic bag half the size of a football to squeeze to force air down the PT.s lungs). Doing CPR in a van ambulance meant you were on your knees on the Pts.' left side while your partner was bagging them. Trying to deliver a baby in the back of the rig bouncing around by yourself while your partner was up front driving code three (Lights and siren) to the E.R. was always a challenge. Those vans suspension were never designed to be ambulances. They were built to be delivery vans. Add a very heavy oxygen tank located right behind the driver, and two fuel tanks, forward and aft presented it's own set of challenges when you had to drive in the ice and snow. Driving code three meant transporting the PT. swiftly but safely. Not driving like you had a rocket in the rear. It took skill and coordination. You had to approach intersections carefully, trying to predict what the other drivers were going to do as you slipped through. Plus you had to drive in a manner that helped your partner in the rear working on a PT, so you weren't throwing them around in the back. Knowing where each item was in the back of the rig was crucial. At the beginning of each shift you would do a rig check, O2, fuel, oil, antifreeze, tires, IV fluids, a drug check, etc. That way while treating a PT. in the back you knew what you had and where it was. You learned how to cram everything in every nook and cranny you could find. If you were lucky enough to have a third medic in the back of the rig with you, that medic would kneel on the stretcher using their left knee right next to the Pts.' right knee and their right leg was on the floor. Try doing CPR like that while bouncing down the road going code three. The challenges were different whether you were driving urban roads or rural roads. When we finally got the box ambulances it was an amazing difference. There was a jump seat at the Pts.' right side as the stretcher was located in the middle of the floor, which meant you had three access points now to treat the PT. The third medic had a much easier time. These rigs were heaver, more stable, handled better in the bad weather. Had only one fuel tank, ours were diesel powered. It was a joy switching to the box ambulances.

Happy Birthday Akela!!!!❤ *8 years old. Dogs seem to change with age, like children (and adults) hopefully maturing for the better. I am sure she still does her silly stuff, like dropping the ball for your attention (I assume usually when Kobuck is not around?), she certainly has developed her give and take with Koby, I am so glad they have each other. I like that Kobuck stands in front of the camera, I believe it’s intentional and today he gets the excuse that he needs more attention because Akelas getting so much on her birthday. It’s hard to blend families and you 4 are doing so great! BTW I get the glow balls that are similar, during the winter I tie a rope through them so when they go thru the snow we can find them. Plus it’s fun in fields at night! Love the calmness of your episodes❤

I live in the Pacific Northwest in Oregon in a little town called Clatskanie so this may truly not work in that climate but for a Windbreak and shade and something set grows fairly quickly there's always cottonwood trees you can actually grow one by putting one of the branches in the ground they're called whips but they do require water but we get rain here. But we have used them for windbreaks for privacy for shade and they're not totally invasive and they're not something that you would permanently have to keep and you could always cut them down if you don't want them but it might be something that you totally can't grow there or that you're not interested in it's just an idea I was thinking about when you were talking about what you were wanting. I'm so happy for you and your new property and all your adventures to come and I look forward to watching you create a beautiful home for yourself may God bless you and keep you safe and everything you do.❤ and of course... 🎉Happy Birthday to you 🎉Happy Birthday to you 🎉Happy Birthday Dear Akela 🎉Happy Birthday to you. 🎉And many many more years to come ❤❤❤❤❤❤
