Hello and greetings from Solothurn. The boot in Solothurn is a fountain. Water is released from the heel of the boot at high pressure, causing the boot to turn. The fountain was inaugurated in 2004 in front of the art museum (the yellow building). In 2019, the boot was even stolen and returned after 3 days. Probably from a few lads who were on their way home after a night out.

Fantastic, thanks for explaining the boot👍🏻 - mystery solved! maybe we should have hung around a while to see the boot in action! I'm also amazed our video managed to find you all the way over in Solothurn. Happy New Year...Andy&Michelle

You are welcome. Unfortunately, the fountain is not in operation during the winter months as the pipes could freeze. If you ever come back, I recommend the summer months. Swimming in the river is a dream and the Jura mountains are in full splendour. I work in tourism and watch a lot of vlogs about switzerland to see what the guests like to improve or change the offer. My hometown is not very well known, even though it is already 2000 years old, so I am always happy to see something on youtube. So thank you very much and a belated happy new year. @@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures

While we were in Haag the owner where we were parked up offered to take us on a hike to the top of the Jura mountains, we wanted to but couldn't as we were only there for one night, maybe next time. We have travelled many times to Switzerland Vlogging - such a wonderful country. If there's ever an opportunity to collaborate like promo videos or highlighting an undiscovered gem we would be interested in discussing 😀 We are known in the UK as the Motorhome KZbin channel that inspires travellers to discover new places😀

I did think that at first, but the shot over the water in the gorge seemed far away from the platform. You must have a long stick thingy.. @@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures

Have loved watching all of your trip. I dream of going away for that long. I wonder if you can do a video or tell me how you go about planning this sort of thing. You always find such interesting things to see and do. I’d love to know because we have done some trips in the UK in our van in the last couple of years but we are yet to venture to Europe. Thanks ❤xx

Hi Julia, its great to hear you enjoyed the trip, we do plan to do a video or a KZbin Live on how we have planned our latest trip to New Zealand as there has been quite a lot involved. The way we plan for Europe is far simpler and we will do a video at some point but in the meantime for the trip you have just finished watching the only planning was to book the Tunnel across the channel and the ski resorts just incase they were full (they weren't) With every trip we've done we've made it a better holiday by being flexible, due to the weather or for the amount of time we stay in a particular place. Assuming you're not travelling in peak season then Europe is so easy just to decide they day before where you are going, many campsites don't like to taking bookings and prefer you to just turn up, the key is if you think it's going to be busy turn up early say 10am-2pm. We find the sites and aires using Park4night and SearchforSites. We choose our locations by looking for National Parks, Green areas on the map, google searches. We find most sites/aires have at least one decent hike/bike or town to explore. Travelling in Europe is easy but I appreciate until you've done it, it may not feel that way because its the unknown, we just dive straight into everything on the basis that if other people do it then it must be fine! If you go to France try an overnight in the free big carpark in Esquerdes which is 30 mins from Calais, it's a great introduction to wild camping if you've not done it before. From there look at where then sun is shining and set your course for the next day! 😀 Hope that is useful...Andy&Michelle x

This one is a great introduction to the 1000's of cabled routes like this all over the Alps, they are all graded so you know what you are letting yourself in for. The safety kit we use for more serious routes is only about £130 and its free from there onwards😀 you can also rent the kit for about £20 to try it out, just stick to grade 1 or 2 for your first one if you ever try it😀 cheers...Andy&Michelle

Hadn't realised there is an e.vignette ... did you still have to pay chf40 again?
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures 5 ай бұрын
We didn’t have to pay the CHF40 again, he accepted we had paid, we found later there is a way to generate a receipt in the app, the e.vignette is actually really good, pay daily so if not staying in Switzerland for more than a couple of weeks works out cheaper, we are over 3.5t so can’t have a vignette anyway. The e.vignette also works for under 3.5t , it’s called “Via” on the App Store, cheers…Andy&Michelle

So what was the problem at the border? Did you have to check in somewhere everyday? Stuart
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures 5 ай бұрын
We’re not entirely sure , in the end the guy waved us through , his computer wasn’t picking up our plate but we had all the payments on the phone app, yes in Switzerland you need to check in on the app everyday you are in the country irrespective of if you are travelling, it is a good system and works out cheaper if just there for a couple of weeks, cheers…Andy&Michelle
@retirement-adventures

Hi Andy & Michelle, not so sure what you mean (I'm from Australia - the country you are avoiding). So why do the Swiss need to know where you are everyday? Does that happen in other countries? Stuart @@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures
@ExtremeMotorhomingAdventures 5 ай бұрын
Hi Stuart, the countries in mainland Europe have different systems for road / toll tax, in Switzerland the App just requires you to validate you are still on the country as it’s a daily charge, under 3.5t can just buy an annual sticker for the windscreen costing 40CHF. We will visit your wonderful country at some point😀 cheers
