Unsubbed guys. Making out you'd accidentally run your battery down due to not using it for a few days. I jokingly said to my partner, ha I bet they've got a power pack to sell. Ah well. Another pair of van lifers doing it for the wrong reasons. Take it easy out there.

Well Nick and Sarah, the weather has finally got to me and caused severe black mold in my joke of a flat. The landlord refuses to fix the place. I've bought a Transit mark six and I hope to hit the road soon. I know it's a bit daft at 68, but I've had enough of greedy landlords and being stuck in Devon. So at last I've taken the advice you gave me a long while back.

Another great upload. So spooky, but we came up to Cotswolds for my birthday yesterday. Today we went to a certain pretty village as I had not been there for at least 25 years....and there was your van in the car park! We didn't knock on your door, wanted to respect your privacy and you were probably out walking Charlie and Dizzy anyway. I won't mention the village it was so as to keep your privacy whilst your parked up. Took a photo of the lovely Vinny, hope you don't mind 😉

Love the show!!!! Did you know ------- The Broadway Tower tower was the brainchild of Capability Brown and designed by James Wyatt in 1794 in the form of a castle, and built for Barbara, Countess of Coventry in 1798-1799. The tower was built on a beacon hill, where beacons were lit on special occasions. Lady Coventry wondered whether a beacon on this hill could be seen from her house in Worcester, about 22 miles, and sponsored the construction of the folly to find out. Indeed, the beacon could be seen clearly.

The engine inVinnie is the old 2.5 Lt Ford " banana bunch " engine , its indestructible but is ( was) unique in that it was direct injection and was not fitted with glowplugs . It relies on having a top notch , fully charged battery and the fact that he starts instantly with the jump pack suggest that yours is knackered!
@Scamparelli2 жыл бұрын
That's interesting to know! So that's why it wasn't achieving enough compression to start but did with the with the extra juice with the booster pack!
@bobgorman94812 жыл бұрын
Yes, some ( export ) ones had what was called " flame start" which was basically a heater element in the inlet manifold , but they were very few and far between . There is a light on the dash which comes on initially with the ignition, and people wrongly assume that this is the glow plug indicator, but it's the water in fuel filter warning light.
@robthomas72322 жыл бұрын
It's a bosch battery as well so should have 3 or 5 year guarantee on it. Those li-ion starter packs are great though and have got me out of a hole a few times.
@davidmitchell40892 жыл бұрын
I would pop and get a new battery. Leaving a knackered battery in place will eventually screw up your alternator as it isn't able to discharge the charging current properly. Cheaper in the long run to replace your battery guys.

Hi Nick and Sarah ! I noted the starting problem you have with Vinny in your most recent episode. You said the van battery was only a year old - but it seems not to have enough charge to fire up Vinny. I reckon the problem isn't the battery if it is just one year old. There are two possibilities : 1 The alternator isn't charging the battery and needs replacing. 2 The glow plugs need replacing - they take a lot of charge to heat the air in the cylinders and when they get old need replacing. Try this - before trying to fire up Vinny, let the glow plug warning light go out. It looks like a coil and when it goes out it's because the temperature has been raised in the cylinders. Try repeating this 4 or 5 times. If it still doesn't fire, it's your alternator. If it does fire, it's the glow plugs. As Vinny fires up using the jump-battery, I reckon it is the alternator. Cheers !
@theexPAWers2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the message, we’ll be hopefully getting our friend Mick from MAD Ford to look over the van soon and we’ve got a few questions to ask him, he’ll hopefully be able to figure the problem out with us.. Thinking it could be the alternator, we don’t have that light you talk about, there isn’t one on the van!

@@theexPAWers hello,( me having a vauxhall vivaro diesel 2006) i got that light in my van and i always keep my eyes on it- my mechanic told me to turn on the ignition but to NOT start the motor without taking care of this indication, as the glow plug needs to achieve a certain high temperature to start the motor. If you start too early it means that one wastes the energy of the battery without getting the motor running, which can be crucial when it is cold outside and your battery is already weakened... i wonder what the manual for your van is recommending to start the diesel motor , especially in winter times...if you have direct injection then there is no glow plugs and you may not have this indication at all --- by the way : you are a great vanlife channel and have always inspired me a lot. Get on with that british humour and unstoppable energy of entertainment.

Guy's, you need a sparky to hook up a relay with a button on the side of the dash. It links the duel batteries, press the button to get power from the rear battery to start the van if the main batt dies. Thats what we do in Australia works perfect. We can't have flat batteries in remote areas. 👌

even if you have your super-battery-tool (which seems great, btw) a little suggestion for your battery (and that's the old man in me coming out) - when staying in the same place for a few days, turn the engine on for a few minutes every day, that'll give the van the idea it's useful, and it'll be more inclined to oblige when you actually want to go somewhere for real... 😁😁😁 I love the dangling bananas behind the driver's seat, by the way! 😂

Dizzie and Charlie must speak the same doggie language as my chihuahua, Molly, she barks back when she hears them. She's out now, scouting the yard for them after hearing them just now. I love you guys, I've binge watched for a few days now, after finding you. I couldn't sub fast enough. In several videos I've seen I heard him say, "Sarah loves this", or "she loves that", it really touched my heart. When you truly love someone you think of them, and know things about them, and it tells in the way they speak. I may not be explaining it properly, but it was just very obvious that he loves her. So sweet in juxtaposition to this fast-paced, sometimes cold world. Your videos are a sweet respite from it all. I built a tiny house, them a tiny dolly shop onto my house. I sell antique and vintage dollies. I had to retire early from nursing because of my health, so I'm playing dolls for a living. Can't beat that! I love every minute of it. I used to want an RV (I'm obsessed with the long trailer campers) to travel in, but that was out of the question with my health. I have the next best thing with my dolls. Watching you gives me a reality of all that entails, and the most beautiful scenery I could have ever hoped to see! What an artistic eye you have for God's beautiful handiwork! My family originates from near these places, what a joy it is to see it. History comes alive in these places. I love it all. Praying for you clear blue skies and safe travels for wherever you set sail. Thank you for letting me come along. And, Molly. 💝🙏

Battery: I just put "N72 VARTA START-STOP EFB CAR BATTERY 12V 72AH (572501076) TYPE 068 EFB" on mine & I'm really impressed, it's _never_ whizzed over that fast! Mine came from Tayna Batteries, I've dealt with them before & never had problems (they even delivered to a field once). I've also given it a new earth lead direct from the battery to the engine which helps. It wasn't the cheapest but the "EFB" should make it last better & Varta is good quality. I found with the old battery that if you tip it on end the fluid can go to one end (this is what killed the old one), the solution is to tip it on it's side for a few seconds to even out again once you've got it level.

If you’re still in area and need anything. Drop me a line you’re more than welcome to come to Blockley and have a cuppa. Free shower and leccie too xx

Find a helpful sole with a multimeter....... ask them to read battery voltage (@ battery terminals) when engine off and ignition key out..... 12.2 - 12.8 volts ( any lower and its low on charge). Start and run engine, repeat...... 13.3 - 14.3 volts with items inside off ( charging battery). If its not at second figure with engine running, alternator / regulator/rectifier ( all inside alternator) is at fault. (make sure belt that runs alternator and power steering etc is fine, and not slipping, as may not make much sound if totally worn out. 2nd check - Similar second voltage should be at leisure battery when engine running, but most likely different voltages when engine off (batteries in differing state of charge). IF the voltage is same when engine off, check VSR (split charge relay or B2B ) is not staying latched in error when it should open / disconnect with engine off (this will flatten engine battery when using loads inside the van when parked up, as will use batteries in parallel at same time. Hope this helps

Excellent vlog as always. Love Broadway but is pricey there. You guys should check Stroud out. Voted the best town of 2022 it has an amazing cool hippy vibe, stunning scenery and Woodruffs, which was the first Vegan cafe in the country. There's an award winning Farmers market on Saturdays which is definitely worth checking out. We've got woods, valleys, rivers and the canal with resident otters. What's not to like! I highly recommend visiting and you'll be fine staying over night cause it's so laid back here. xxxx

Thank you for the tour of the Cotswolds. I'm heading there for a few weeks later this year as seems like a photographer's dream. I've decided after this winter and the almost constant rain we've had down in the South that I'm going to do my best to not spend another Winter in the UK, but time will tell how that works out 😊 Happy and safe travels 🙏

In the summer if you walk from the broadway car park into town, the smell of lavendar wafting from walled gardens is absolutely lovely 🤗❤️

Those gates have a few to pass through 😬 Kissing gates. They require a kiss as payment for passing through. Love watching you 4. If we’d known you were in the Forest of Dean you could’ve come parked on our drive. Xx
