I grew up near San Francisco in the early '70s, and of course Van lived nearby. He was notorious for scheduling shows and cancelling them, and being a jerk generally. He did a wonderful show that was broadcast over the San Francisco radio station KSAN, which they excerpted endlessly thereafter. Come the internet, you could not find this show, because, as soon as someone posted it, Van would get it deleted. To this day, his reputation is as a genius singer and an asshole. Good going, dude.

There are some great performances in this film, Joni Mitchell, Neil Diamond, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Muddy Waters, Emmylou Harris, The Staples, Dr. John and climaxing with Bob Dylan. I'm a huge Van Morrison fan, been listening to him a lot lately. At his best he taps into some spiritual place and channels something extra. I love all his albums from the '70s and '80s. Also , the band THEM were a rock group formed in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in April 1964, most prominently known for the rock standard "Gloria" and launching singer Van Morrison's musical career.
