I saw him in Vegas on the 8th. What a wonderful performance. I've seen Van 5 times, and he never disappoints. He's a consumate professional. He has always been on time and brings some of the finest musicians to accompany his amazing vocals. Most of the acts in Vegas just play their same old songs over and over again. Van is a musical genius and comparable to none.

I’m still naturally high from seeing him at the Greek theatre in L.A. last night! More music, more energy, more beauty inside and out, more spiritual connection than a body has a right to possess and I am blessed to have shared this planet during this Poet’s existence…that’s all.❤

Vocalizations on “Laughin and Clownin” 00:58:18 and “Precious Time” 01:14:00 😂😂😂 Curious how spontaneous the latter part of the show was. Van seems legitimately excited by the bass player’s suggestion of “Whenever God…” 01:04:44

What concert did y’all see? He played all new music and sneaked in only 2 songs from his earlier days; one being Into the Mystic. No Someone Like You, no Brown Eyed Girl, no Celtic New Year, no Stranded, but hey he did sing, If I was an Apple Tree and Oh Lonesome Me. He still sounds as good as he did 50 years ago, is incredibly talented, and some of his new music is blusey and good, but it is so incredibly arrogant of him to know that we pay premium prices for tickets to hear all his classics, yet he can’t split the new with the old?

Arrogant? He's been doing these fantastic sets the last 20 years .. knocking it out of the park with traditional blues, R&B etc and new twists on his old stuff with top flight musicians. Always puzzles me, people who see Van expecting a note for note golden oldies show. He's a working musician with solid chops.

My wife and I went to see Van Morrison last Friday in Las Vegas. Expensive trip, costly seats, lousy, lousy show. In fact, it was the worst concert I've ever been to. 90 minutes of nothing but his most esoteric songs. He played ONE of his recognizable songs (Into the Mystic and even that was played in a way that we didn't even know what we were hearing until about halfway through the song) and he has nearly 30 great hits. He played only the songs he wanted to play...after all, he is a big name and he can play whatever he wants. Screw the fans. After all, he isn't in the business to entertain the fans, he's in it to entertain himself. Great going Van, thanks for robbing me and the rest of the crowd of a lot of money and a chance to remember you fondly.
@davidyoung1991 Жыл бұрын
Sounds like you were at a typical Van Morrison performance. Too bad there's no way to research what an artist is currently doing? I recognized every song.
@chrissycoyote Жыл бұрын
You must be tone-deaf if you went to see that band play and you weren't impressed by skill of the musicians. And you must not go to many concerts if you're shocked that the artist is doing material from their new album. Perhaps, you should do some research online before you plan a vacation and drop big bucks on on a performer that you're not actually familiar with the majority of their work. You don't tell Picasso what colors to use, you just enjoy the painting.
@pavlovshouse77 Жыл бұрын
How sad for you. I was at this show and though he didn’t play many of his old catalog, every one of these songs was great. Try google I looked up his set list before going and was aware this would be the case. His band, as always was professional and really played the hell out of this skiffle music. You are welcome to speak for yourself, but do not presume to speak for the “rest of the crowd” who I’d guess,much like myself and my wife, were totally entertained. How sad.
@johntuohy1867 Жыл бұрын
Yeah! It gets that way sometimes.Just marking time.Labor w/o love.The heavy disappointment lasts . Then again so do so many of his early recordings.
@ocan1033 Жыл бұрын
90 minutes of his most esoteric songs? If it was close to the set list here, you saw what Van does .. traditionals, jazz, R&B .. all with top flight chops and first rate musicians. He's a working, performing musician, on key, strong voice, always mixing it up with vintage Jimmy Reed, Hank Williams etc. If you want a note for note version of Astral Weeks, he did that a few years back too. Not a greatest hits act, and he would suck if he was. Maybe do a little research first or opt for an Eagles cover band. Lucky to have this dude and I think if you played this amateur recording here a few times and listened you'd realize you caught a great show.

I've always liked Van Morrison's music - and his voice was great - but, as I've heard from a number of people, he sucks and is a jerk when you see him live. Having the audacity to sing "Gloria" by the "Shadows of Knight" for the last 20 minutes - and he has walked off about 5 minutes into the song letting the band continue. I don't really understand what that was all about.
@davidyoung1991 Жыл бұрын
"Gloria" is a rock song written by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison, and originally recorded by Morrison's band Them in 1964. It was released as the B-side of "Baby, Please Don't Go". The song became a garage rock staple and a part of many rock bands' repertoires. 1965 - The Shadows of Knight recorded "Gloria", which was released as a single in December 1965 and later included on the album of the same name. Bill Janovitz describes it as "a faithful, though tamer version of the original". The song reached number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1966, due to its popularity with radio stations that chose not to play Them's original because of its lyrics - the Shadows of Knight replaced Morrison's line "She comes to my room" with "She calls out my name" (Wikipedia) also the last bits of the show after Van has left is called a vamp.
@douglas2520 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the music history lesson @@davidyoung1991 I do appreciate your input, however, Van Morrison's band playing it for 10 minutes after he left the stage - a "vamp" as you call it - was just a waste of time for me. Again, thanks for your input though.
