This is such a powerful love song. I've loved this song since it first came out and I can't count the number of times that I've listened to it. I guess because as you mentioned you can get lost in it and he has the ability to transport to a magical place. As well as being a wonderful poet, Van is a musical genius and can evoke in his music what he is trying to convey. Not only this but the range and expressiveness of his voice is unmatched. I liked your insightful comment on his use of specificity in his lyrics and how it does make it so much more powerful and heartfelt. You might like his beautiful love song "Hymns to the Silence" which many don't know of (perhaps because its 9 min long). In it he builts up rich instrumentations in each section and he repeats the verse in a mantra like effect. He's able to convey silence in this song music which might seem a contradiction. It's another of his many masterpeices.

Van is incredible. We both come from Belfast Dani. He enjoys legendary status in these parts. My favourite song by him is called Daring Night. His album “Avalon Sunset” is a masterpiece. ✌️

Thanks for sharing this one, Dani - one of his very best. There's so much space in there for the artists to breath and breathe they certainly do. As I'm sure you know, Tupelo was the King's birthplace. Must be something in the honey down there. I believe most people misinterpret this as a love song to a woman. When I first heard this song (decades ago!), that is what I thought, too. I am convinced the "she" Morrison refers to is freedom. This song is an homage to the American presidents (especially Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln) who arguably did more for the cause of freedom than anyone who has ever lived. These are the men whose faces appear on Mount Rushmore, a granite mountain in South Dakota. These are the "men with insight, men in granite" as Morrison puts it in the lyrics of the second verse.
