In addition to the wonderful 'Gran Partita', it's so great to get to hear works that most of us are completely unfamiliar with. I was really taken with the van Otterloo Serenade, and it made me wish he'd written some band music! I was also very interested to hear that composer Teresa Carreno was also an opera singer, and "the Valkyrie of the piano"....what a moniker! She was clearly no slouch as a singer, because one of the roles she sang, Queen Marguerite in 'Les Huguenots', is extremely demanding (I've sung a few of the arias) and requires a commanding soprano with agility, along the lines of Joan Sutherland...brava, Diva of the voice and piano!
