Thank you for the video! It's yet another example of why I like this channel so much. Hard numbers from a transparent company are extremely helpful for those of us weighing the differences between the two options. Tax situations can vary, but since the potential refund was discussed, we should try taking how much is paid into them to begin with into consideration. After all, the final, money-in-the-bank income is the most important figure. I suspect ET doesn't handle the yearly taxes for lease operators, and therefore you would not have access to those exact numbers. Theoretically, including tax burden, the lease operator is probably netting closer to $90,000-$95,000. It's still an advantage, but feels like a lot of extra risk for a relatively minor reward. Other factors need to come into play at that point. How important is it to have your own business, with the freedoms and responsibilities that come with it? Do you have pride in owning your own truck, or plan on trying to keep it after it's paid in full? Do you have the capabilities to manage a budget and balance the books (be honest with yourself)? Do you have enough cash in reserve for unexpected problems?

Ronan, what did the lease operator pay for income tax? You HAVE to put that number out and subtract it from the lease ops' take home pay, because you've done so with the company driver. It's not really an accurate comparison without figuring income tax for both.
@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News2 жыл бұрын
I will do a separate video Each driver is different I might need only 40K to live while someone else needs 80K But I will go into detail when I do that video. Thanks for the comment Happy New Years.

I would like to add to your point that the reimbursements should also to be deducted from the payout to lease operator as it is not income!
@arsenix20262 жыл бұрын
exactly what i said to myself .... where's the income taxes on that lease operator ?? so i guess we can say the company driver made around $102k and the lease operator around $117k gross on that year . not a big difference between the 2 amounts . so in my opinion it's not really worth it to lease BUT lease purchase option is a different story since the truck is gonna be yours after a certain amount of years . leasing only is pretty much paying for that company truck ... company ain't paying nothing ... you pay the repairs and after the 3 years ( in this case ) you give the truck back with all new parts you paid .

Not to mention that the lease purchase driver also has equity in the vehicle with his payments upon successful completion of the contract.. so one could generalize and safely say twenty to thirty per-cent of the payments made that year will be equity..

I guess the lease driver doesn't have to pay his income taxes and other taxes that the company drive pays. Because the "gross" for the company diver is not much less than the "gross net" of the lease truck.

After taxes, the lease operator makes about the same. Difference is equity. Or as he mentioned wealth. The idea is you buy the truck at the end of the lease. And that’s where the wealth or equity comes in. You’ve invested in your future. All at the same as a company driver. But a $3,000 raise a month after purchase. You can’t get that kind of raise in 20 years as a company driver. Yes you start saving some of that for a future investment in equipment but it’s giving you wealth until then.

I'm from kitchener Ontario, I have been in the trucking business since 1994. I have driven triaxle dump trucks, owned hwy tractors and worked for 2 trucking companies... 1 of which was bought out by fastfrate of toronto back in 2007 and was just laid off from Loblaw cambridge maplegrove DC in march of 2021. I'm currently driving city transit. Decided to get out of trucking all together just cause of the numerous shady companies out here and uncertainty... I would love to get back into trucking, but transit is a secure great pay, benefits and pension... I would like to say your channel is given me some faith in getting back in. So your owner operators are making $1.47/mile? Or is that for the lease operators? If so what are the owner operators making per mile? Thank you

I noticed the fuel amount was very low. $10,000? No way. At 7.5 mpg, 18,354 gals. @ an average of $2.75 per gal. is $50,473.50. Now take another $40k off of the $128,500. It's funny how so many wannabe O/Os will be talked right around the fine print...lol.
