We're building the -14. Because of your video, curiosity got the better of me. I checked the aft fuselage area of the plans, and pulled out the sub-kit that includes the J-stiffeners. I also have a USB drive with the -10 plans, so I opened those up as well. While both the -10 and -14 share similar designs/components in the aft fuselage, Van's handled the inventory distribution of the J-stiffeners differently. The -14 plans do not include a cutting schedule for the J-stiffeners like the -10 (Figure 2, Page 10-5). In Step-2 on the same page, it is mentioned that there are six, and eight-foot lengths of J-stiffeners. I can see why you ended up where you did. But, the situation was realized and addressed. Laborious fix? Yes. Handled? Yes - and nicely. Tap the sign (just got one of those myself) and press on. Thanks for the follow-up!

Christine this is why your videos are so important. This will prevent someone else from doing the same. Great job and the repair will be fine. Love the creative editing as well. Keep up the great work

Mental note to myself for my own build: measure the part that is intended to remain, rather than the part to be removed.

This is why I watch build videos like yours. These will help me look out for potential trouble areas to keep in mind during my build.

I have the same sign in my garage "keep calm and build the plane". That sign has saved me form throwing stuff multiple times 🙂

LOL! It's a good sign 😉

Christine, I really enjoy your videos. But after watching your description of how the j channel problem evolved I have come to the conclusion that you may have spent a little to much time in College Station. As a recently retired mechanical engineer I have to conclude that only an Aggie would measure materials by what is to be discarded instead of the length required for the installation. Just poking fun. 🤪

Quite honestly - watching what you did - that'll be totally fine. And I disagree - you have a good eye for the "engineering" take on things. Sometimes it's paying attention to things and going "hmm - that doesn't look right" and then fixing it.
