Meet Cailin and Mark - tour their 1979 Mercedes Benz 207d T1 Westfalia Camper Van. This rig has tons of upgrades and is fully equipped for full time vanlife. In fact, they have driven this camper coast to coast 4 times and still going strong. Not bad for a "vintage" rig.

This is a great design - a lot of usable space is lost in modern camper vans with sliding side doors. I used to have a 1977 Ford Transit with a similar layout.

Been a while since I've seen a build without a bed in the back. Nice to see something different. But love the vintage, love your design and color scheme! Y'all did an awesome job!

Love your rig. I think a lot of us would be interested in knowing what kind of insulation you used the first time and what you have in it now.

I warn people about buying older vans from a different country, for the following reason, because of the chicken law, vans, RVs have to be as someone said, 25 years old, which means that the van will soon need parts replaced,no matter how well maintained, the problem with that is if they are still selling parts for vehicles that old, and the wait and cost of shipping them from another country as well as finding a mechanic who knows how to fix them, it’s hard finding them to fix the Eurovan! I see many ads for vans that say rare, and although some of them are really cool, but when I see the word, I think of my comments above, think about all this before buying.

p.s. If you know where to get replacement hazard button switch, that would be great, too! Thanks again!!!

I have an '81 207D...Is your headlight switch a rocker switch to the left of the ashtray? (that's where mine is)... If so, do you know a good replacement part for this, where to get this? Also, my hazard button (to left of main dash) was recently not staying all the way down (self-releasing & turning on, which is problematic). Did you have a similar problem w/this? I'm about to trouble-shoot it...It functions properly but need to make sure it consistently catches when I push it down to stay off (seems like it might be a physical catch that disallows it from springing up, when off?)...Thanks!!!

Since your van is a Euro import, did you convert the speedometer from km/h to mph?

Howdy 🤠, I have an ‘81 207D (from Netherlands, I’m in US), You mentioned that there’s an adjustment on the engine that can be made that makes vehicle go overall a bit faster, Can you please share what that is & basic methodology? Thanks! p.s. thanks for the great video & I did figure out fixing the hazard switch through another guy in Netherlands through a T1 Facebook group!

Love the van! Been looking for a 310D but can never find them in the US, did you go through a company to import or get lucky enough to find one already imported? Thank you!

The weren’t sold here for the US market. As long as the vehicle you’re looking for is 25 years old or older you could import it legally for road use in the US. I fact it might be cheaper to import a decent older van from Europe or wherever than to get a decent used van here in the US. You’d just have to get used to it being a manual instead of an automatic and the speedometer being in kilometers per hour instead of miles per hour.

Curious how you did the spacers for the rims you imported.
