I just used my scarifying cartridge (blades not tines) on my Bermuda and zoysia lawn. I took 11 black lawn and leaf bags of debris out of my lawn. Crazy.

dang! yeah, my old zoysia lawn had crazy amounts of thatch in it too! I just did a dethatch and verticut on the tifTuf bermuda, not a whole lot came out. I was pleasantly surprised by that. but it is still very young lawn so. we'll see next spring.

That tool will not really get thatch out. It is an above surface tool known here in Australia as a power rake not a scarifier and is designed to remove moss and leaves, it will not do a lot of damage. If you go too hard with it, it can damage spring Tynes. In Australia scarifying is the most aggressive form of removing thatch, it has swing back blades or a series of aggressive hook blades, Allett calls this the dethatcher.

You will know when you have to do this.. Your HHMB will get fluffy and you start to scalp in spots and thinking it’s your reel mower..
