Forget about talking to that crazy guy.If you are planning to move to Vancouver, the first to consider is the very high standard of living here in Vancouver.For this I don't mean only comfort.It is the average affordability of housing in the city both for rent and for purchase. Your grocery bill is not cheap either.In fact it is the highest in Canada.Public transportation cost is average compare to the rest of the country. Job opportunity is fairly good here.

I was proud to leave this city. I was born here in 1960, lived there 20 years until 1980, then left for the rest of Beautiful (and sensible) British Columbia and Incredible (and stable) Alberta and never looked back. Vancouver was quite a nice city in the 60s and 70s, but I could see the writing on the wall by 1980, when most of the city embraced a bizarre social hysteria that stated that the "multitudes of Yuppie Beautiful People" were superior to all other menial human life forms. Nearly EVERYTHING that was "normal" in society was challenged as being wrong: People started driving like maniacs, car accidents went sky-high, free and easy sex was everywhere and the "beautiful yuppies" even talked in their own hyped psuedo-language, which was superior of course to all other thought processes, and they intimidated and threatened "average" people " as those "who had everything in life wrong". The city was so socially electric in those days you could feel it, see it and hear it, and if you were not part of it, you were not welcome, in fact, you were despised. As that period blew itself out by 1982, Leftism, brought to the city during the Hippy Era of the late 1960s took over, narcotics, always a problem since the 60s took over, massive immigration from Hong Kong took over and brought theTriad Gangs which took over to a point where the Provincial Gov't had to get involved to try to stop its spread from ruining in the school system, Chinese Foreign Investment took over and pushed real estate prices to the third highest in the World, and the result is the Vancouver one sees today, a northern version of San Francisco, and in some ways maybe even worse.

This is a gorgeous video! Loved the slow moving, sweeping shots. Very meditative. It was heavy on some areas and missing almost everything east of Cambie aside from a few shots. East Van is bursting with art, history and parks. Little Italy, artist studios, queer history, Trout Lake. Vancouver is more than Kits beach and downtown, as beautiful as they are.

Great thumbs up video. I like the no music or talking. A few things I would have to seen/seen more of though, in no particular order. I have lived here since Expo 1986. 1) Spanish Banks Beach (next to Locarno and Jericho beach. 2) Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden (Chinatown). 3) University endowment lands. (Large forested area by UBC) 4) Wreck Beach (nude) Beach by UBC. 5) Lots of golf courses. 6) VanDusen Botanical Gardens. 7) I don’t think i recall the Kitsilano or Stanley park public pools, or the Stanley park water playground being shown. 8) A short 15 minute ferry ride to North Vancouver with its views to Vancouver and everything there (Quay, Grouse/Seymour/Cypress). Not al of these are necessarily ‘walking’ distance, but a short distance public transit away.

It is orders of magnitude cheaper than in Sydney, Australia. In Vancouver, the rent for a great one-bedroom apartment in Yaletown, right next to downtown, is between $2500 and $3000. In Sydney similar quality-location apartments don't exist and but the few which do, the rent is $1 trillion per month. I will just repeat Newton's Fourth Law that was never published: "Only people who have never visited Sydney will call $3000 per month as expensive rent". I ran away from Sydney at the speed of light.
