@@Pixelplushockey You will give Boeser 8x8 next year out of fear that he walks in the free agency. How can you address issues like securing a competent goalie without Lankinen (875k) and resigning players like Brannstrom (900k) and Suter (1.6m) when their contracts also expire? These players consistently get lots of play time compared to the 5 UFA and 3 RFA expiring next year. Since you have a dedicated Canucks channel, I am curious how you will tackle all the issues if you were the GM.

@@FrozenNexus It's obviously well above his grade if he thinks Canucks should put that much dough into a 50 point player for 8 years. You're barking on the wrong tree asking for his take lol

8 million that's not even a 1.5 million dollar raise
@PixelplushockeyАй бұрын
That's my point. But the rumor is north of 8 million. So that could mean like 8.75 or something.

The only player on the Canucks who deserves a "franchise player" salary is Hughes. We are in an inflationary economy where all of these excessively high salary demands have to burst at some point. I am getting tired of so-called "franchise players" demanding the sun and the moon and then complaining about their weak defense or goal-tending, while their own play is sketchy! There is only so much money to go around to pay each player on the team. This creates a team imbalance when these agent-promoted "franchise players" demand so much of the team salary cap!

is the CAP supposed to go up next season, and by how much? 8M does seem like a lot

It's at least going to be 92.4 million next year. It is a lot but if he goes to free agency he'll get paid pretty well.

8 million is a steal. Sign him and be done with it. He’s a former 40 goal scorers. Like it or not, that’s what they cost. 8-9 mill. Caps going up, welll be fine

The Canucks won't be able to address the goaltending situation (Lankinen won't accept another 875k) or the lack of competent defenders (especially RH without Hronek) if Boeser eats up half the cap raise next year. The Canucks would be lucky to resign Suter with what's left from the cap space. Do you want the Canucks to play Silovs as the backup once Lankinen prices himself out?

JT Miller only got 7x8 from the Canucks. Boeser isn't worth more than Miller overall to justify a longer contract duration he wants for his next contract. There's nothing team friendly about his asking price at all.
@Jrrobins99Ай бұрын
@@Nononomoke miller signed a long time ago when cap was lower and he was worse, boeser is a 40 goal scorer. also the cap is going up even more next year so to go with the moving cap he is going to get paid and i think he deserves it. Edit: He is also the longest tenure canuck and has been with us in the bad times and he should be here during the good times. Plus on the free market its likely he gets around 8.5-9m
@NononomokeАй бұрын
@@Jrrobins99 Miller's Canucks contract (2023-2029) just came into effect last year. The team salary cap when he got his first 8m was already 88m. I wouldn't call that a long time ago. He also had a consistent growth in his career unlike Boeser. Boeser remained a 50 point producer every year for the Canucks without significant growth until previous season. It wouldn't be surprising he receives higher in the market after Sweeney offered 6x5 for a third pair defenseman. Canucks could sign Lankinen + Suter for under 7m long term ideally and acquire another DeBrusk tier forward without Boeser in the picture.
@stevewalsh23Ай бұрын
@@Nononomoke They can trade him or let him walk then. He will get north of $8M, more the longer the contract is with how the cap is supposed to go up. He could get North of $9M pretty easily if he goes to market. Also, keep in mind JT miller will be 36/37 by the end of that deal and plays a tough game. It is pretty likely he will not be the same player by the last couple of years of that contract, so the number likely came down a bit with expected regression at the end of the contract.

No way Boeser deserves to be paid the same amount per year as Miller considering his poor performance without playing in the same lineup as Miller. We can use that cap space to extend contracts for both Lankinen (.912% SV) and Suter (17 pts) plus sign a mid-tier player once the cap space increases next year.

You can't compare JT Miller to Boeser. Miller is on a completely different level from Boeser, yet receives a 7x8 contract from the Canucks. Miller produced 94.6 pts while Boeser generated 58 pts on average in the last 3 seasons. That's on top of the fact that Miller steadily grew each year to the point he achieved 100+ pts a season. On the other hand, Boeser generated about 50 pts per season with no growth until last season.
