I moved to the lower mainland in 87 to go to school. The early years were great. I used to cycle from Coquitlam to White Rock or Stanley Park and all over. These days I'm afraid to drive in Vancouver. It's either gridlock or I'm doing 110 in an 80 zone and people are whipping past and forget it in the winter if the roads are slippery or snowy. So if you think "I'll just use Skytrain"; when it was built they skipped the usual heated rails to save money. When you REALLY need Skytrain when there is a dump of snow (it does happen) the system breaks down. There ARE great neighbourhoods to live in Greater Van but you couldn't pay me to move back.

@@davidphillips7255 lol, you mean once a year when it snows?
@davidbarts61445 сағат бұрын
In my experience SkyTrain usually works quite well in snowy weather. Certainly better than buses or private vehicles on gridlocked snowpacked streets. Sometimes a big dump (like the 30 cm that fell in a single day last January) will cause issues on SkyTrain but even then the streets are far worse.

We've pretty much settled on West Point Grey and Kits. But, and a big butt, could there be a small community outside of the main city area that could attract us. I live in a town of 45,000 people 35 minutes from downtown Toronto. I have a rail link to the city, freeway access, trails and can walk to five grocery stores, Canadian tyre, dentist, doctor - walking distance to all of it (6-15 minute walk to all of it). The big question: what communities offer this outside of Vancouver, with lower price of homes? I think you have touched on this before, but not completely. I'm not thinking suburbs off YVR, but smaller towns that are mostly self sufficient. It's a lot of answer here so might be a video idea for later. Kits and WPG is the top of our list, but there must be some other outlying areas that are designed well and self sustaining ;) Happy Christmas Sebastian. Thanks for this video on the heels of Christmas!

It depends if you are commuting where to and what your tolerance is for commuting. I was born here and have lived in Vancouver for the past 56 years.

Can you afford to live in Vancouver and find stable employment? There's an entitled population in Metro Vancouver as well. It is overpriced with a milder climate. Raincouver.

Chances r, absolutely nothing will happen to you if you just mind your own business and be alert, but if you are specifically looking to ensure your safety, avoid the downtown east side in whole in general, as well as Surrey Newton and New Westminster. Those r the areas that are really distinguishable from the rest of metro Vancouver for their high rates of crime.
