What an interesting place. Very overwhelming to film and even experience. It is so heartbreaking to see graves in that condition. These were people who lived and loved and were loved. The plethora of open graves was shocking, but after witnessing a grave that was open with bones on top of the ground - and being able to find no one willing to fix it - even these open graves weren’t too shocking... This was a sad place. This is one I don’t think I’ll be returning to. Support Sidestep Adventures: Patreon.com/SidestepAdventures Announcing the new Patreon members only Facebook group! I will never understand why people vandalize cemeteries. Even if the church isn't open anymore, I would think that whoever owns the land (maybe the state?) would be obligated to fix the open graves? A tarp isn't a fix...😟

As far as the state// Goverment jumping in.... Well we all know how the governments does or I should say DOESNT do anything! They can't run anything responsibly! Smh God bless you!

In the old days families had picnics and and such at the cemeteries of their loved ones. That is also when they would do a cleanup of the cemetery. At least around their family graves. It's more sad to me we as humans and families do not do this together anymore 😢

It was called "decoration day" or "homecoming". It's still practiced in old rural churches that still have an active church family. As the younger generation moved away the church is left for the older members to maintain. This is like a slow agonizing death for any church.

My family is from Ky. When I have gone to visit them, we would go to some of the cemeteries, usually around memorial day, Other families would be there too, and would bring food, visit with one another then clean up the grave sites. After seeing these videos, I feel very sad for these people who seem to be forgotten.

I agree with you , in Philippines 🇵🇭 every November 1 and 2 it's a visiting day to the cemetery , all are having picnics to the graveyards , they even sharing foods to the friends they see in the cemetery ! We can call it also a feast of the dead ! I think the Philippines 🇵🇭 All Souls' Day is very different in the whole world !

There is this stigma that being in graveyards/Cemeteries is "weird". My son's and I pulled over in a very large one yesterday so I could place a to-go order on my phone and a lady was walking with her baby in a stroller. My sin remarked how weird it was, but I told him, a lot of people exercise in Cemeteries, it's much like a park, there is not a lot of traffic, and usually not a ton of people around so its relatively safe,, plus it gives you time to reflect on those of the past, and your life. The stigma that these places are off limits should be done away with. Let it be normal for people to enter, hang out, enjoy the day.. they won't be forgotten that way

There is a big rise in the occult and Satanism these days, very sadly, and decency and morality have flown out the window. So much channelling, talking to the dead etc; which God strictly forbids, and for the good reason that doing these things leads us away from the protection of God, and to a dire end, unless the person receives the salvation offered by Jesus Christ.

Brian, this was at least the third truly poetic statement that ya made. I’m tempted to pause the video and copy these priceless things in a journal which I am keeping. One day, I hope to make a quotation quilt! She’s very talented. If you are interested in my project, I’ll be happy to include pictures of y’all and I do that by using a special photo transfer fabric. I have 2 quilts hanging in Redford Township Library, and one in the Oxford Public Library. I’m finishing up a quilt for my son and I made a wall hanging for my ex-husband, again using photos that he had given to me. I’ve been involved in 4different quilt guilds. It’s amazing what you can do with a bit of fabric. I would make a small/medium sized quilt to be hung on the wall. Or you can use the quilt to draw attention to how important heritage is. I won’t charge you anything because you all have done a lot for me since I started watching your videos. I always look forward to them. Sorry for such a long comment, feel free to edit away. I’m way too talkative for my own good. God Bless!

Seeing that soldier from 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne caused me to think of my father who was in 3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne in 1969! I had to do a double-take when I was watching the video ....3rd Brigade 82nd Airborne was in Phu Bai May 1969.... rotated back from Phu Bai in December 1969....to Ft. Bragg . My dad was with 3rd Brigade ...he missed my birth in February 1969 he was in the Iron Triangle ...Phu Bai Saigon Hue ....February and May 1969 were deadly months for troopers in Vietnam ... This soldier most likely died in the battle of Phu Bai....April7- May-26 1969 .🙏🇺🇸. He deserves to rest in a place more secure....very upset watching this but a big thank you for posting this 🙏....folks need to know .... The cemetery needs to reckon with these grave robbers. I hate to use this type of language but somebody with relatives there needs to hide out in a tree maybe take a deer stand...take action..... that'll solve this problem real quick .

Great discovery! The large unmarked area of the cemetery most likely contains the graves of paupers and children who were still born or died shortly after birth and were often buried at no cost to the family. Those graves would have typically been marked with a stone, a concrete vase or cherub statue (the pile of rubble). This is an example of a congregation that died out leaving no funds for perpetual care and has sadly fell into state conservatorship.

I have been searching for several years for my great grandmother's grave. Thought she was in a tiny village north of here and have been there twice looking for her. Recently got hold of her death cert. from 1912. She is buried about two blocks from me at the end of my road. Nobody knew and she does not have a marker. (That will be taken care of.) Her husband is not buried here..hmmm. I know there is a story there! Enjoyed this tour even though it was sort of sad with the vandalized graves.

I really appreciate your channel, it brings awareness to the long lost churches and cemeteries. It is hard to imagine someone making the long trip out there to bury someone just 16 years ago. One would have to assume they had purchased a plot at sometime in their life. So this has to have a Name or be on some registry I would think. I sure wish I knew who they hold accountable for allowing a cemetery to come to such a state. In some states they have Historical Societies in different county's that oversee and protect cemeteries. You have found so many it is truly a travesty, yet amazing at the same time. I know what it is like to look for ancestors headstones or cemeteries and the sadness when you cannot find them so Thank you!

oh wow! so old graves! just somehow stumbled upon your channel and watched few episodes I'm from switzerland, and we don't have graves older than 25years in our churchyards (cemeteries? graveyards?...I don't know the difference). After 25years the remains are all gone* and the gravesite gets prepared for the next one to use**. If people want they can take the gravestone home and reuse it later for themselves or else they will be recycled to (mostly) gravel or sometimes cut into small stones to reuse as wallstones/steps in the churchyard. There are also rules, that the graves at the churchyards must be kept clean and neat, either by the family or by the gardener which then has to be paid. Vandalizing graves is forbidden by law and gets very fast very expensive.... * One exception known to me is the churchyard of Saanen: It has very heavy clay where bones/hair etc don't rot, so after 25years the remains are taken to a special chamber besides the yard to fully disappear and then are re-burried. ** Graves older than 25years are only found inside catholic churches or if a person was really, really, really important (which is fairly seldom) or if the grave is on the family's private ground.

My mother passed away in 1984. A couple weeks prior to her dying, we has a conversation about dying and burial. She had lost her Mom when she was 16 and was requesting to be buried beside her in an old family cemetery. It was a hard choice to bury her in a cemetery where it no longer had a designated caretaker....but I honored her wishes. The day she died, my brother and I went to the cemetery to check it out and see if there was a place for her to be placed. In this overgrown cemetery, where where there were possibly a hundred graves or more, some graves dating back to the 1800s, was a path...it lead from our parking spot on a graveled road completely to the grave of her Momma, my grandmother. It was like a sign to me that she should be buried there with her Mom. It is so peaceful and serene although you will find beer bottles and trash dumped...I did what was right by burying her next to her momma.

This may have been a small community, either turpentine or lumber related industry. As the citizens grew older and the young left for the city jobs, the town dried up and all that is left is the church on the hill and its cemetery. It may be listed in the "lost towns of Georgia" registry I've heard of. It would be nice if you mentioned a city that was nearby or what county your in.

Have you ever researched any individuals whose grave you have video recorded? I have done that at random, and the histories are fascinating. Very sad that burial grounds are forgotten about, for various reasons. Thank you for the respect you have shown for the deceased.

That seems like such a large cemetery (size wise) for such a small church. Makes me wonder if at some time there had been a much larger church there (maybe burned down) and as the size of the congregation dwindled, they just built a much smaller church to use.

If there was a church there it's safe to say generations of ppl lived ther lives around there.it was probably a rural community or junction of some kind . There is probably a 1 room schoolhouse near by., if not the church itself..

They aren't '"forgotten" . The ones whom knew them and cared for them have also passed on. Or it is not geographically possible for them to visit. It is sad.But it is also a part of life's cycle.

By far tis is one of the saddest cemeteries you have gone too, so sad that these people have been forgotten and not taken care of, those open graves are so sad why I ask myself, don't people take care of them, Robert you and your team do all you can, I hope someone watching the video will find it in their hearts to do something, so sad we lie, work, take care of our families and then when we are one to be forgotten.

It actually looks like the old falling in graves were wooden caskets/coffins that have broken down over time leaving a large void in the ground and the thin layer of concrete has simply caved in. I really don't think they have been vandalized. Someone or group should really go there with soil and fill up the holes though.

There should be a law that whatever county those cemetery's are in should have to take care of them. I think it should be their responsibility. It saddens my heart to think of all those forgotten souls, these were someone's family, someone's loved ones. It make me so upset to see and at time s hard to watch your videos.

This is beyond heartbreaking, I had to pause and calm my spirit. Where are the families? Where I came from we believe our ancestors guide us through life and when one is going through a rough patch in life your advised to visit family burial grounds and clean them. It's key in our culture to care, visit and spent time at the family burial grounds....very very painful to watch...thanks for sharing, may they Rest in Peace.

In rural Iowa we have a small cemetery from the early 1700's. In another cemetery from when Iowa became a state there is a old Jewish cemetery that is haunted. I never believed before, but it was a still windless day about 85 degrees, all of a sudden the temp dropped 30 degrees and the wind came up fast only in this part of the cemetery. As soon as I left the Jewish part it was back to original temp.

The second veteran's stone was death in 1969. Vietnam? Do the veterans services help with flags and holders etc. I know they do here in ohio.

The VA only supplies the headstone. I know there are veterans groups that will plant flags for Memorial Day etc but that is being done without government funding.

Generations of families used to live in the same community and were there to care for graves, but we are all so scattered now it just isn't realistic to expect any longer, unfortunately.
