Cracked toilet fix! No leak, no plumber, just a cheap fix.

Here's how I turned a fairly big plumbing issue into a simple fix. My toilet cracked on the water tank. I fixed it with a little bit of ca glue.

nice. I'm about to do the same repair. CA glue is great stuff. The low viscosity allows it to be sucked into hairline cracks by capillary action. I once filled a pipe crack with CA, applied baking soda, then sanded and applied a ca soaked piece of fiberglass cloth to the outside, more baking soda. 2 years and still holding pressure.

What I've also done is spray flex seal over the crack on the inside of the tank. Seems to work really well, and you don't have to worry about the outside so much. You're seriously gonna remodel that whole bathroom though? It doesn't look older than 10 years.

Yeah. We already did one of the bathrooms and this bathroom is the last thing needed in the entire main floor. Everything else is in white and gray so it doesn't really match. Plus the tile is bottom dollar, as is the flooring and it's the master bathroom.

😂Here cuz my son broke mine too, the nicer one thats easy clean bottom that I saved up for at that. Great job in this vid!! His dad threw away the porcelin piece though I felt it could be fixed. Wish I saw this sooner. New replacement tank ir entire toilet on the horizon now & bucket flushing til then

It dried pretty much immediately but I waited an hour just in case. I believe it was the gorilla brand glue that I used.

@@joanglover3437 someone commented that American standard has life time warranties. Check on that and you may get a new one free. If you fix the crack, it's not completely necessary to grind it open. Just make sure it's clean and dry and get super glue that's as runny as possible. I'd suggest a couple coats with just glue before you include any making soda, just to be sure it gets as deep as possible.

Thanks for advice on a cracked toilet cistern. It happened to my 25years old toilet today same kind of crack i only had Tetrion sealant in so I’ve use that hoping it works, then I can turn water back on. My housing association won’t class it as an emergency repair don’t see why when I’ve had to turn water off at stop cock.

Another fix, cement a 4x4 ceramic tile over the crack on the inside of the tank to stop the crack from spreading. then spray the crack on the inside of the tank with spray rubber.

I'd try fixing it from the inside. There are porcelain repair kits for tubs that could work.

We were wondering if we should call American Standard and demand a refund or replacement. Their brochure says they won't cover replacements. I'm wondering if we should even bother replacing it and just fixing the crack! We are pissed:)

I wouldn't recommend it just because it's flexible so it might allow the crack to get worse, but it is water proof and would work if the crack doesn't get worse.

Cyanoacrylate. Brand names include "super glue", "Krazy glue", or "gorilla glue".

It's probably not essential but it helps the glue go all the way in.

Yeah, I think it will hold up for a long time. The ceramic toilet is very porous and sucks the glue in and makes a solid connection, especially if you add the baking soda.

It is quite a gamble to fix a cracked tank than to just replace the toilet. If you leave for the weekend and the tank were to shatter or spring a huge leak, the water would run for the whole time you are gone. Your house would be quite a wet mess. But if you have good home owners insurance you can then repair/remodel your whole house.

Yes, I would definitely consider this a temporary fix. It did last for over a year though, and then it started to sweat through the crack.

Seems to me that it would be better if you did it from the inside rather than the outside of the tank since the inside of where the water would enter the crack.

@@VanDamArtisan I came here because my old toilet tank cracked as I was tightening the bolts to keep the tank from wobbling. The toilet is 50 years old. So, I just want to do a temporary fix with a silicone sealant until I can get another toilet. I need a new anyway because these old toilets are slow to flush and take entirely too much water to flush.

I’ve got a very thin hairline crack too, less noticeable than yours. The plumber suggested a new cistern. I never thought about how it could be easily repaired. Why is almost every trades person on the take, dishonest and trying to get as much money as possible. Does no one have integrity anymore. Great job by the way, you can buy ceramic paint to lessen the crack visibility.

I don't think I would have been comfortable leaving the water switched on, if it goes properly while you're not home then you've got the water trying to fill and flooding the house, just find a second hand toilet to replace it with until you do the refurbishment.

I'm trying to repair a toilet cistern,which is Pergamon in colour . It's s discontinued . I have tried CT silicon inside etc .stuck plastic . It's still leaking. Thinking about bitumen. Trouble with my design of toilet. The water comes in at the bottom . The two stupid bolts which they connect to the pan is another stupid ,stupid,stupid design . I'm considering buying one of those one piece toilets ,where the pan and cistern are one . I have a lot of patients,but it's beginning to run out .
