This is fraud and it it is shameful you are so easily suckered like this. Shiva has attracted intense criticism from the scientific community for perpetuating long-debunked myths about agriculture, biotechnology and food safety. "Shiva is scheduled to speak in late January at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz on “equitable and sustainable” farming methods. Her positions on a variety of issues have irked and at times outraged scientists who consider her a disseminator of misinformation who profits at the rate of $40,000 a lecture (or more) to spread propaganda critical of mainstream views of biotechnology. Raised in prosperity, this Indian Brahmin was formally trained as a philosopher, embracing and promoting a form of Quantum Theory that is now widely dismissed. She often falsely claims that she is a trained physicist, and those false ‘scientific’ credentials are often echoed by her supporters. The GLP has carried numerous articles about her history of misstatements and fabrications (here, here, here). She was the subject of a scathing critique, “Seeds of Doubt,” by Michael Specter of The New Yorker, which documented her history of misleading claims and what Specter maintained often verged on anti-science gibberish. For more than three decades, she has relentlessly campaigned against globalization, focusing on food and agriculture socio-economic issues and an opposition to GMOs, free trade and intellectual property rights. She alternately promotes land redistribution, indigenous and peasant farmers’ rights, organic-only food production and ayurvedic health practices over conventional medicines, all of which she characterizes as an “earth democracy” movement necessary to restore “harmony,” people and nature. Shiva receives financial backing from high-profile activist groups such as the Center for Food Safety, which shares offices with her in Washington. Among her most controversial talking points is her false claim that there was no hunger in India prior to the Green Revolution. The truth is almost 180 degrees the opposite, as the Green Revolution, marked in part by the introduction of synthetic chemical fertilizers and pesticides enable massive increases in food production. A recent review of the evidence shows, “the production of cereal crops tripled during this period, with only a 30% increase in land area cultivated.” Shiva also blames the Green Revolution for increasing poverty, indebtedness and despair among farmers. Her notorious allegation that the introduction of insect-resistant GMO crops in India led many farmers to commit suicide has been evaluated and dismissed as inaccurate. Shiva is also a fierce opponent of so-called Golden Rice, a crop engineered to combat vitamin A deficiency in developing countries. In response to the scheduling of her two talks at Stanford and UC Santa Cruz, 39 scientists from around the world co-authored an open letter to both universities protesting the invitations. The signatories told the GLP that their aim is to alert the events’ organizers, participants and attendees to the numerous falsehoods in Shiva’s philosophy. The letter, reproduced below in full, blasts Shiva for her “use of anti-scientific rhetoric to support unethical positions.” Neither university has scheduled a scientist to present the evidence-based case for crop biotechnology." geneticliteracyproject.org/2020/01/14/39-biotech-experts-open-letter-protests-anti-gmo-activist-vandana-shivas-anti-science-talks-at-stanford-and-uc-santa-cruz/

Let's ponder that for a moment which is all it takes to realize how absurd and ignorant that meme really is. First of all, Monsanto shut down over 3 years ago. All the corporate seed companies combined comprise less than 20% of our global seed supply. A partial list of the plethora of supply sources they can never touch: free NGO and government run seed programs, seed banks and vaults, seed exchanges, seed libraries, neighbors swapping seed, farm granges, online seed sales, small local farm supply stores, gardening supply stores, collecting seed from wild sources, countries like Mexico where GMO seed is rejected, China and Bangladesh with their own GMO and conventional seed programs, 6 African nations with their own GMO seed, Asshole Russia with their anti-GMO troll armies, seed saving practices, remote villages who never have and never will buy seed, and mountain terrace farmers at the ends of 200 kilometer long foot paths in mountainous regions of three continents. Are corporate seed sellers going to march jack booted thugs up those paths with packs full of seed they will force the remote villages to buy?? Will they accept their payment in chickens? In fact, studies show that the bacteria in the stomach would migrate to the brain and some of the bacteria in the brain go to the stomach... the whole body is interconnected in ways that make the internet... world wide web... look like a bridge made by Pre-schoolers. If the bacteria in the stomach are weak, so will the brain have weak nerves which don't communicate well with one another. If your stomach is bad so is your mood. Fed those good bacteria and they will bless you with bliss, happiness and energy that you never knew you had. 🥰 Imagine if our body systems want full independence and argue with each other like humans do? We would die! Good thing our bodies know how to act as one and not see system inferior or superior, but all as one... true egalitarian!

Siddharth Sriram 3 days ago Popeye Gordon I am an Indian. Thanks a ton for sharing the vid link exposing Vandana Shiva's pseudoscience bullshit. What I learnt from the video 1) She has a phd in philosophy & is not a physicist, but tries to give an impression that she is one. 2) Her understanding of genetics is wrong. She advocates the Soviet Union model of naturally dust resistant variety of crops/seeds. She argues they have the ability to adapt drastically to challenging environment in a short time. Soviet Union did this, they failed as result. The reason why they lost the cold war their economic downfall. 3) Vandana Shiva lures you in with some facts & also scientific facts & weaves them with her own unscientific & nostalgic opinions to advance her ideals. For instance, she is right about the Green Revolution causing an increase in pollution & causing a few other problems, the same with certain companies. The reality is that, it is not perfect, but Vandana Shiva paints that as the sole factor casing most of the problems on earth. 4) She is like mark Antony, a good speaker, & can rally people with her command over English & pseudo-science. 5) She gets paid a tremendous amount of money for giving such speeches.

@@popeyegordon Popeye, I suppose you have a real name but choose not to be visible or responsible for what you say as does Vandana Shiva. I found a link to Ganesh Nanote through web searching for Popeye (cartoon character) & Gordon (cartoon character) on promoting Bt Cotton farming along with 4-G in India. The difference between you & your technocracy partners such as Bill Gates, Monsanto, & now Bayer (after Monsanto fined billions of dollars over Roundup cancers) is that; Vandana Shiva openly makes herself & her statements public. When Vandana meets the likes of you all, she says then, "Let's debate." with Both-sided, equal-time, recorded & published dialogue. Your corporate gang won't publicly debate because when faced with point-by-point responses their & your statements don't stand up to scrutiny. When Vandana mentions 'Satyagraha' (Hindi 'Truth-search') she is referring to the ancient 'indigenous' (Latin 'self-generating') COUNCIL-PROCESS whereby each person making a statement is required to engage with those who might dispute the statement or 'Dialectic-Rights'. Here is a simple 'Both-Sides-Now' process, which any two individuals can employ to 'search truth' together. sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/structure/both-sides-now-equal-time-recorded-dialogues The Monsanto family made its 'exogenous' (Latin 'other-generated') wealth very early 16th century in the invasion of the Americas on genocide of the local 'indigenous' Carib, Arawak & Taino peoples, then colonial plantation slavery in the Caribbean on Curacao islands & throughout Central & South America & finally in complex synthetic pesticides & GMO's, all false economies. Do you see how in our colonial world, without recourse to ancient knowledge, as each lie fails, in the larger scheme of real-life circumstances, it leads to accommodation of the next lie, as a desperate act of survival in a false 2-dimensional 'agriculture' (Latin 'ager' = 'field') paradigm. The problem has been a violent controlling colonial erasing of indigenous memory through colonial genocide & institutionalization. In Ganesh Nanote's video he describes working with the same land as his ancestors in Maharashtra state of western India, but is probably not aware, as is Vandana, about the ancient Indian super-Productive Swadeshi (Hindi 'indigenous' aka 'self-sufficiency') Dravidian Polyculture Orchards. All humanity's worldwide 3-D Polyculture growing mixed on many levels & dimensions of productivity were over 100 times (10,000%) more productive for food, materials, energy & water cycle than 2-D agriculture. You can convert the slavery of your 2-D monocrop farm fields, step-by-step to 3-D Polyculture SYLVALIZATION (L 'sylva' = 'tree'). There are trees, whose canopies, which will gladly produce 100 times more fibre similar to cotton than you can extract from your 2-D Bt growing methods. The moisture condensation of the leaves & bark, deep water, mineral & nutrient pumping of the roots, wild birds & animals controlling insects, coolness of the canopy, returning streams, fish & other biological factors can all be progressively implemented without loosing.a Rupee of revenue but actually increasing year-to-year your family's income & security on every level. In 'Orchard-Food-Production-Efficiencies' are the details & calculations on Polyculture, which I have used for 49 years now in my food & materials growing. sites.google.com/site/indigenecommunity/design/1-indigenous-welcome-orchard-food-production-efficiencies

Shiva is a professional fraud, reviled by the global scientific community. *About the anti-biotech activist Vandana Shiva: Shiva has attracted intense criticism from the scientific community for perpetuating long-debunked myths about agriculture, biotechnology and food safety. * "Shiva is scheduled to speak in late January at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz on “equitable and sustainable” farming methods.

She is a leader in the league of Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. At this present time, she is the only world leader who is fighting fearlessly for the entire humankind against the tyranny of greed and totalitarianism. we are lucky to have her. As for Popeye Gordon, please ignore the ignorant for they know not what they are doing.

@@newdawn6856 You have been fooled like many other poorly educated people. "In June 2014, Indian and international media reported that Navdanya and Vandana Shiva were named in a leaked, classified report by India's Intelligence Bureau (IB), which was prepared for the Indian Prime Minister's Office.[47] The leaked IB report raises concerns over the foreign-funding of Indian NGOs whose campaigning activities, the report claims, are hampering India's growth and development. In its report, the IB said that Indian NGOs, including Navdanya, receive money from foreign donors under the 'charitable garb' of campaigning for human rights or women's equality, but instead use the money for nefarious purposes. "These foreign donors lead local NGOs to provide field reports which are used to build a record against India and serve as tools for the strategic foreign policy interests of the Western governments," the IB report states.[48] Investigative journalist Michael Specter, in an article in The New Yorker on 25 August 2014 entitled "Seeds of Doubt",[10] raised concerns over a number of Shiva's claims regarding GMOs and some of her campaigning methods. He wrote: "Shiva's absolutism about G.M.O.s can lead her in strange directions. In 1999, ten thousand people were killed and millions were left homeless when a cyclone hit India's eastern coastal state of Orissa. When the U.S. government dispatched grain and soy to help feed the desperate victims, Shiva held a news conference in New Delhi and said that the donation was proof that "the United States has been using the Orissa victims as guinea pigs" for genetically-engineered products, although she made no mention about that those same products are approved and consumed in the United States. She also wrote to the international relief agency Oxfam to say that she hoped it wasn't planning to send genetically modified foods to feed the starving survivors."[10] Cases of plagiarism have been pointed out against Vandana Shiva. Birendra Nayak has published on her plagiarism involving copying verbatim from a 1996 article in Voice Gopalpur in her 1998 book Stronger than Steel.[51] Several paragraphs of an article by S Faizi on the Plachimada/Coca-Cola issue published in The Statesman in 2015 were plagiarized by Vandana Shiva in an article she published a year later.[52] Journalist Keith Kloor, in an article published in Discover on 23 October 2014 entitled "The Rich Allure of a Peasant Champion", revealed that Shiva charges US$40,000 per speaking lecture, plus a business-class air ticket from New Delhi. Kloor wrote: "She is often heralded as a tireless 'defender of the poor,' someone who has courageously taken her stand among the peasant farmers of India. Let it be noted, however, that this champion of the downtrodden doesn't exactly live a peasant's lifestyle."[53] Wikipedia - Shiva en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vandana_Shiva#Indian_Intelligence_Bureau_Investigation

Shiva is a professional fraud hated by the legitimate scientific community. She refuses to talk to real farmers and she avoids debates with real scientists because she knows they will tear her up. You don't have to believe me, I am nobody. I quote the experts - they are the ones you have to refute to defend your huckster. Farmers will tell you what a scam artist Shiva is. Farmers won't tell you what you claim in your conspiracy theory - laws are extremely easy on organic farmers - they only need a 25 foot buffer between organic and GMO crops to maintain their certification.

*Indian environmental scientist blasts anti-GMO celebrity Vandana Shiva for ‘baseless’ assault on biotech crops* June 9, 2020 "A reader curious about celebrities’ role in the radical environmental movement emailed me recently. He wondered if …. their claims about Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) were credible. [Editor’s note: Vijay Jayaraj holds an M.Sc in environmental science from the University of East Anglia, England] He was particularly interested in anti-GMO claims by …. Vandana Shiva. Shiva is no newbie to GMO. She speaks often against it. Her celebrity status gives her high visibility. Recently, Shiva claimed that Bill Gates perpetuates Monsanto’s work by promoting GMO in India. She said GMO crops have a lower yield than non-GMO. She also said farmers would not choose GMO if not for Gates’s influence. Her claims are baseless. I come from a region with high agricultural output. I know many farmers. The Indian government has no control over their choices of seeds. Farmers are concerned about their livelihood. Most prefer crops that give larger yield. Why? You can guess. They give higher profit margins. Farmers prefer [biotech] crops. Only a few experiment with organic farming. Many so-called “organic” products in India have high traces of toxins. That makes them dangerous. But they also cost twice as much as non-“organic.” Expensive, organic coconut oils from India sold in the United States may not be completely organic, despite certification. Shiva is popular in the media. But 95% of the farmers I know (hundreds in my own family circle) reject her ideas. India’s two major political parties support GMO. True, a few individuals side with the anti-GMO lobby. But the dominant position is based on solid scientific testing. Yet anti-GMO groups have blocked GM crops through court interference. Shiva is a leading agent. Shiva’s claims on GMO farming are false. She calls Golden Rice a hoax. Golden Rice is a GM variant that can help eradicate vitamin A deficiencies that cause blindness and death. Scientific authorities in nations like the US and Canada declare it safe and beneficial. Over 100 Nobel Laureates have hailed it. Although Shiva is involved in an anti-GM cartel, she is ignorant about GM. She is neither a biologist nor an expert on genetic science. Her bachelor’s degree was in physics. She specialized in the philosophy of science. Her doctoral dissertation mused on the “hidden variables and locality in quantum theory.” Vandana Shiva is a radical environmentalist. Her anti-GMO policies reduce poor farmers’ profits and deprive other poor people of affordable food. Pop-culture celebrities like her, who pontificate on matters on which they know little or nothing, are a menace to agricultural and economic development." clashdaily.com/2020/06/pop-culture-celebrities-a-hurdle-to-agricultural-and-economic-liberation/

Thank goodness for fact checks! Indian farmer slams Shiva for her fraud - "I hope a few science majors are in the crowd at Drake, so they can expose Shiva for what she is: a full-time environmental activist who spreads lies about agriculture in the developing world. Her deeply unscientific views, if enacted, would make it harder for farmers to feed themselves and their countries. When she attacks GM crops as “poison” and complains about “deadness” in our fields, she sounds like someone who simply doesn’t know what farmers in developing countries really think and do. As the daughter of a smallholder farmer in India, I agree with Shiva that seeds must remain in the hands of farmers. This season, when it came time to choose cotton seeds, my father selected a genetically modified variety for one simple reason: GM cotton is a superior plant that has transformed our ability to earn a living. Professional propagandists like Shiva have frightened many Indians into resisting GM crops." geneticliteracyproject.org/2016/11/16/indian-anti-gmo-philosopher-vandana-shiva-doesnt-speak-indias-farmers/

If you are under 40 years old you have never seen a world free of the largest longest marketing propaganda campaign in all history. Organic industry tyranny for 33 years and counting: "Although GMOs are regarded as safe as their conventional counterparts by every major food safety authority in the world, the organic industry spends nearly $3 billion a year through over 330 different organizations leading with fear and “information spin” as an industry to sell their products. This dirty money includes Shiva and Navdana. They also sent a $160,000 cash bribe to the IARC to buy that claim of a low cancer risk from glyphosate, it paved the way for abuse of our legal system in false cancer lawsuits. By creating an unfounded fear that requires tighter regulations on GMO crops, they are hoping to force them out of the food supply, thereby creating a bigger market share to sell more products in their more than $65 billion wheelhouse. The unfortunate consequence of these [non-GMO] labels is that the food companies and lobbyists tend to create an unnecessary “us vs. them” divide. When food companies use fear against competitors to sell a product, farmers take it personally." www.agdaily.com/insights/farm-babe-label-trends-end/ Now why do you suppose organic food is so expensive?? Imagine what 3 billion dollars could do for humanitarian goals - end a different disease forever every year.... End all hunger in at least one country...... Funding nasty propaganda? Thank you. I just watched an hour ago - my meal to the soul. What a brilliant woman is she. I've seen some talks with her but this is surely one of the best. Maybe because it wasn't a debate and she could speak freely and not restrained by lack of time or biased questioning in which she's also very good responding to. Oh, God, there's so much I wish to talk but of all wisdom and knowledge she so gently shared with us one is special to me: school gardening. I had a Science teacher, Augusto (blue-eyed, half-bald young, a little cranky) who weekly took my class (6 or 7 grade) to a tiny improvised area at the school yard where he tried to teach us more than biology concepts, the importance of the being next to Nature. Although my relationship with Nature was built by other ways, I now recall that experience as many things (a waste of experience for me because for some reason I didn't get it at that time) but especially as a lesson of the value of public education and the worth of teachers doing what they truly believe in no matter the "imediate response" (like dra Vandana said, do your best and don't expect rewards). Thanks for remembering Lula's work against hunger but we have big issues in Brazil with the power and money of the industrial agriculture which is politically very influential directly (they have their own branch in Congress, "bancada ruralista" of big landowners and agribusiness) and indirectly giving money to politicians and buying the justice system. The Landless Workers Movement (for us, Movimento dos trabalhadores Sem Terra - MST) is the biggest producer of (organic) rice in the country and is still persecuted by landowners and rural militias, and their work was fundamental to the "Zero Hunger" project also through school meal contracts with municipalities - she may know their work. It would be great if the work in Navdanya could be made into a political platform to dispute elections - if we don't take power back we will work as Sisifos. Thanks. I was in need of those thoughts to avoid self-pity and giving up on our collective predicament. As some say, when we are prepared the master shows up. In this case, the master's message came in the timely moment, I hope. 🙏 ❤️🌿🌾⚖️ Sampa/SP, Brazil, 24/04/2021 - 13h30 (-3GMT).

*Fear of biotechnology threatens efforts to save Brazil’s pinto beans* Natalia Pasternak | June 20, 2019 "The movement “For a GMO-free Brazil” was launched by a coalition of anti-GMO NGOs. After 20 years, activists and consumers are still confused about the different technologies used in genetic modification. A 2016 survey conducted by the Biotechnology Information Council showed that 80 percent of the respondents did not want to eat anything with [!!!!!!] DNA. A recent survey conducted by the Institute Question of Science (2019) showed that 73 percent of the respondents believe that GMOs are bad for your health. This fear of technology keeps us from releasing new GMOs into the market. That brings us back to our carioca beans - also known as pinto beans. Brazilian consumers may have noticed the price of these beans has increased significantly in the recent years. The reason behind this rise is a plague caused by the Bean Golden Mosaic Virus." She is SOOO on point about the CO2, self correcting system. It really only works so long as we have enough plant life to do it. BUT it certainly cannot be the end all be all of "global warming". I hypothesize that the "global warming" is actually not caused by fossil fuels (perhaps not helped either), but instead by the non-anthropogenic heat created by nuclear power plants. The heat (energy) released from the nuclear reaction is NOT anthropogenic heating. Meaning, it is not preexisting energy which has touched the surface of this earth before, from the Sun. Fossil fuels are born from essentially ancient solar energy, stored for millions of years. Therefore the energy we release from say burning gasoline in an internal combustion engine or a coal in a power plant, has already been on this planet before and it has already at one point or another been a part of the fragile water cycle, which I think is directly responsible for the drastic weather we see, at times. 70% of the heat generated inside a nuclear reactor core is waste energy. It, along with the used heat energy, is pumped back into the water cycle either directly into the water or the atmosphere as steam. As water is used either for cooling the reactor, providing steam to turn the turbines or both, either way, the now hot water is put back into the water cycle - yet this energy, has never been seen before on earth, so there is no ability to balance what we have created, unlike the by products of fossil fuels, like CO2. If we want to stop "climate change" or whatever we want to call it now, we should focus on using only fossil fuels while also not cutting down so many forests (maybe replace forest products with hemp?). While at the same time, turning off the rather dangerous, 200+ nuclear power plants around the world. it indeed seems counter intuitive, but that's because the propaganda has been pumped out for 20-30+ years now. You can't create a global tax on H20, is quite easy with CO2 though! The global CO2 tax scheme is a total scam. It will NOT do anything for the planet. It will only line pockets of big industry and politicians. Just like the recycling scam. It will only shuffle the problem around and not solve it directly.

Thank god there are real scientists! Here's what they think about the anti-biotech activist Vandana Shiva: *Shiva has attracted intense criticism from the scientific community for perpetuating long-debunked myths about agriculture, biotechnology and food safety. * "Shiva is scheduled to speak in late January at Stanford University and the University of California, Santa Cruz on “equitable and sustainable” farming methods. Among her most controversial talking points is her false claim that there was no hunger in India prior to the Green Revolution.

Now I destroy your foil hat implication: geneticliteracyproject.org/gmo-faq/are-most-gmo-safety-studies-funded-by-industry/ Compare that to Shiva being funded 100% by organic industry activists - this really pisses off the Indian government: "In June 2014, Indian and international media reported that Navdanya and Vandana Shiva were named in a leaked, classified report by India's Intelligence Bureau (IB), which was prepared for the Indian Prime Minister's Office.[47] The leaked IB report raises concerns over the foreign-funding of Indian NGOs whose campaigning activities, the report claims, are hampering India's growth and development.

---------------------------- AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH -------------------------------- Don’t buy organic food if you want to increase farm yields or seriously address climate change "As we approach the 2020s, many consumers have accepted the marketing/activist narrative that organic farming would be the best option for food safety and to mitigate the most damaging effects of climate change. The inconvenient truth is that organic farming is a terrible option from a climate change perspective. Its dependence on manures and compost involves huge, but rarely recognized, greenhouse gas emissions in the form of very potent methane and nitrous oxide. But perhaps its biggest climate change issue is that organic farms are mostly less productive per unit area than “conventionally” farmed land. With rising food demand driven mostly by rising standards of living in the developing world, there is a need to boost farm production, and that means the very undesirable conversion of forests or grasslands to agriculture in places like Brazil. That leads to major carbon dioxide release from what had been sequestered carbon in the soils, and also the loss of biodiversity and other environmental services provided by those natural lands. In 1990, the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) was charged by Congress with establishing a national organic standard to supersede the fragmented certification systems that had evolved to that time. It was a major struggle because the very science-oriented USDA was at odds with the early organic marketers who had focused entirely on the narrative that what is “natural” is always best. The marketers finally prevailed. When the national organic standards were issued in 2002, they were not based on science but rather on the naturalistic fallacy. So here is the big picture. The only crop category for which organic yields were higher than the 2016 US average was for forage crops for feeding animals. To have produced all of the US agricultural output from 2016 as organic would have required more than 100 million more acres to have been farmed-an area greater than that of the entire state of California, the third largest US state. That amount of new land suitable for farming clearly does not exist in the US, and so that shortfall would induce more conversion of forest and grassland into farming in places like Brazil, leading to major releases of previously sequestered carbon in those soils" This informative article goes on to use eleven charts and graphs from government data to prove in great detail just how inferior organic farming is. geneticliteracyproject.org/2019/10/07/viewpoint-dont-buy-organic-food-if-you-want-to-seriously-address-climate-change/

@@m7k138 This will come as a disappointment to you due to its lack of sensationalism and conspiracy theory value but there are selfless humanitarian reasons to invest money in biotech: "Biotechnology companies have been accused of selling seed to poor farmers in Africa and Asia at inflated prices, though this is because they have to recoup the cost of developing their products. It can cost over $100 million to bring a new seed variety to market. But when well-funded foundations like Gates and Rockefeller invest in seed companies, they can ensure that genetically enhanced seeds are distributed on a pro-bono basis or sold at artificially low prices to Africa’s farmers, many of whom are unable to afford them otherwise. There’s an analogue to this investment strategy in the pharmaceutical industry. The latest anti-malaria drug was sponsored by the Gates Foundation and the price was set low enough so Africans afflicted with the disease - another depopulation phenomenon - could afford it. If wealthy foundations can invest in drug companies to make life-saving pharmaceuticals affordable, then it makes sense that they would finance research to cut the cost of improved seeds for the poorest people in the world." geneticliteracyproject.org/2020/12/18/viewpoint-debunking-bizarre-conspiracy-theory-about-western-billionaires-using-gmos-to-depopulate-africa/ If the company makes money for Gates it is available for donation to his foundation. He's smarter than you in so many ways. Out of your league.

I agree that the marginal/landless farmers in India are in deep trouble at the moment. But it would be foolish to seek a permanent solution for them by trusting the big Agri companies. GMOs though might be good for a short term, it isn't the right way. We will invite more trouble in the future with this strategy. If the government policies change to actually help the small farmers to do organic farming by diverting the subsidies from chemical fertilizers and pesticides and by controlling prices of the produce through msp then it will be a wonderful improvement! It will be a true win win for the farmers and the nature. I know that some of the claims Dr. Shiva makes don't stand on their own if we look at the facts and figures. However, she is very sound when she makes an ecological argument. And that is the truth we need to hear. Very few people have been able to voice their thoughts so clearly. So more power to Dr. Shiva!

@@jidnyasamulekar You are poorly informed. This is not about "trusting the agri companies". Your poor neighbor to the south has benefitted from the free seed given to them for GMO brinjal that repels the borer worms that usually scar or damage the harvest with worms. Indian farmers are hearing about the huge success of Bt bringal and they want it so they can enjoy the benefits of pesticide free farming and perfect appearance brinjal that sells very well. Today in 2021, more than half of all GMO seed is developed by small government projects by scientists in their own countries, no patents, and given away free or at very low cost. Bangladesh farmers can give away the seedlings or the seeds to other farmers as they wish but the Indian government is being fed false propaganda by Shiva and Navdanya so your farmers can not get the seed they want and need. These videos describe the success of Bt brinjal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHardqdra9xjhrc kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmfOmYmGZbOJnLc In the video comments you will see Indian farmers saying how badly they want this seed but they fear government reprisals.

@@popeyegordon thank you for sharing the videos. I will tell you about the ecological point of view - there is no concept of pest in ecology. The BT GMOs are still using some kind of pesticide. It is just that the pesticide is embedded in the plant itself making these varieties pest resistant. However, if you have studied evolution, you will know that the pests will eventually become resistant to the BT GMOs. It is just a matter of time. If you switch to organic farming you can avoid pests with many other ways that do not trigger mutations in the pests such as poly culture or agroforestry. The asthetic is an artificial concept that is causing a lot of food wastage. None of us look alike yet we all are human beings. Same goes for bananas and brinjals. Natural variation is beautiful. They are not made in the factory to look alike. GMOs are short term gains and long-term losses. Let's trust our local indigenous breeds and follow organic farming. That is the only sustainable way forward.

This site covers it with no nonsense: www.bt.ucsd.edu/how_bt_work.html Bt has been used heavily by organic farmers for over 40 years.
