Just a quaint summer home for the Vanderbilt family, The Biltmore Estate and its grounds are as stunning from the air as they are from the ground. Still the largest private estate in the U.S., this masterpiece took 6 years to build.

This house is mind blowing in person. The interior carpentry , which was done by hand makes most finish carpenters today look like amateurs . It’s really worth a visit if you have the means and time.

@StrnFn9099 it is spectacular , but the price of a ticket today is ludicrous . $94 dollars for one person . 😳 When i went many years ago it was $35 and the tour was rather restrictive . i was interested in the top floor maids and butlers quarters and other obscure areas of the home that show how the staff lived . i tried to go up and the guards flipped out . rightly so i suppose but their attitude was very condescending and sarcastic . The website gives the impression that you can roam around at will but that's a bit of a stretch.

That a railroad tycoon that got rich off of cheap immigrant labor was able to amass a fortune and build a mansion with 30+ bathroom? Lol. That's idiotic...no "family" needs 30+ bathrooms in a house. I'd very well rather fallow and read about Mackenzie Scott...Jeff Bezos ex wife. 15th richest person I'm the world and worlds richest woman. 100% pure philanthropist. It's expensive, $94 a ticket. The video says over 1 million visitors each year, and at that rate would gross the estate over $100 mil a year. A plus, they have no shortage of workers there, plenty of staff to ask questions of, or get directions. Tickets are timed e.g. entry at 12 noon, 1 pm, etc. And they are metering guests at the front door to avoid overcrowding. The tour runs through about half the house, the rest is sectioned off and presumably private.

I was there back in 2016 I believe. Too the tour that takes you behind closed doors; sub basement, basement, just everywhere! Had our own tour guide essentially as it was just me and my dad with the guide. Up in the attic out onto the terrace, I guarantee there are hidden rooms in this place. The fireplace in the main dining hall is absolutely massive! I'm about 6'2" and I can stand in the fireplaces!! Amazingly though... It's not finished, there are some areas of the place that aren't complete. George died before it was fully done. He never really got the chance to enjoy it with his family. Very unfortunate.

I certainly wouldn’t call Vanderbilt “ unfortunate.”

I live just miles away and maintain a seasonal pass for Biltmore. Nothing quite like smoking a good joint and enjoying this majestic home and its acres of relaxation.

They use to take us from Brevard NC starting in elementary school and proceeded several years afterwards Permission slips were sent home and a request for $1 for admission and to pack a lunch was mentioned took us on school activity buses. I loved those trips as a adult I have eaten at the restaurants near the winery and taken xmas tours all simply beautiful adventures
