In this video we cover every important aspect you need to know about the character from the basics of how the moves work and what they do, to more advanced concepts. Couple notes on the offensive side turn: 3K also works in the same fashion that 3K does in defensive stance, but they have to press a button. Still good to know in case you forget that you are in offensive stance for some reason. Also, as far as the combo goes, after crumple you can get 1K+G, P, 2P+K, P+KK for 101 damage (66K+G starter) on everyone except Taka. A few characters have weird hit boxes (namely Shun and Akira) where P will whiff after 1K+G, but the crumple state lasts for so long that you can micro dash before 1K+G and it will still land the big bound. It allows you to shorten the range a bit so P won't whiff on anyone.

a lot of the 1K+G stuff is very unreliable on combos when it comes to P, 2P+K depending on distance especially after death scythe. Its not reliable depending on distance and i only wanna focus on stuff that works 100% of time rather than theoretical max damages as to not confuse people.

Oh, absolutely. Death scythe shit can be really weird, but I'm talking specifically about side turn in offensive stance. When you hit 66K+G after 66KK side turn, the 1K+G combo is fully landable anywhere on screen, even near the wall (unless 1K+G wallsplats which can fuck up your distance and timing). Also, correction from my end, it's 89 damage on normal hit 66K+G crumple and 101 on counter hit (I didn't realize I had CH on when I was tinkering). Still good damage. Also, also, there are some odd occurrences after 1K+G if you are off axis where the opponent will float completely perpendicular to your character which pretty much screws any combo up. But you are correct! Consistency is key, especially if you wanna play Nessa in comp. Great vid btw!

Defensive style Vanessa always felt weird to me and I couldn't figure out a viable strategy. Thanks to your guide I'm getting a better understanding of what to do. I'm going try to use those -1 frame situations to get counter hits with Cut Upper (3P) and Crush Jaw (while rising P).

Thats basically it, offensive stance you win through the usual big combos, defensive stance you win by death of 1000 cuts with your weird little specialty moves

What's a great punisher you normally use with Vanessa while in Defensive stance? Especially when you successfully sidestep? I usually find myself just grabbing right now.

3K is generally the safest bet. If it hits, well you got a hit, if you caught em mashing you get a sideturn crumple. Pretty much everything else is too slow to get any real reward

I loved Vanessa back in the day. Her only flaw is the game designers were too cowardice to just make her a Black American. With a name like Vanessa Bryant, it shouldn't have been so difficult to just give us the best technical Black American martial artist ever in a fighting game (at the time). Special shout out to Tekken's Bruce.

Vanessa got nerfed so badly in REVO. Taking away 66K Staggers on NH Crouch hurt her a lot, it was her only real mid and the Tackle Nerf does not help with that. I feel like 66K and Tackle was her core designed gameplan (evident by 66K being cancellable into Tackle, so the 66K vs. Tackle Okizeme was clearly intended) and I feel like OS is just a painfully mediocre character now. DS got good buffs, but overall Aoi is just a more complete Defensive Stance with some shades of Offensive Stance in it. So I don't really see why you should play Vanessa now? I feel like she might be Bottom 1 now.

I don't really disagree. OS sorta got hit with a hammer. DS is nicer (like 2K+G into 3P is actually pretty decent thanks to the new numbers) but DS compared to aoi who is the most buffed character in the game isnt a nice comparison. That said Aoi still doesn't get to do both and thats the big selling point
