When I was probably 7 or 8 years old my dad put the entire Blade Runner soundtrack on an ipod nano (do they even still make those things anymore...?) for me to listen to, along with many other movie soundtracks. Even as a little kid this song always stuck out to me, like you feel a special kind of sadness that you don't hear in many other pieces of music. I've always found it relaxing, in a melancholic sort of way. It's hard to put into words, really.

For me BR 2049 was the best movie of 2017. I also loved the music that was composed for it.
@robwebnoid57634 жыл бұрын
@@virtuiz2919 ... Several reasons for why Vangelis was not used in 2049... He isn't doing musical scores at all now, if maybe only one or two idk. He is notorious for completing his movie scores late. He had a falling out with Ridley Scott because of the above I think. He wasn't sure how to make a better score for a sequel to a movie he became famous for. He is getting older so this type of work might be getting harder for him to do.
@charlie-obrien4 жыл бұрын
@@robwebnoid5763 is there anyone who hasn't had a falling out with Ridley Scott? The guys a genius, but also a complete ass.
@robwebnoid57634 жыл бұрын
@@charlie-obrien ... Speaking of Ridley, I was ok with his Prometheus & Covenant. They are what they are. While maybe half the viewing audience were critical of it. I think part of the genius you speak of is just him trying to get these 2 movies made in the first place, after 15 years of hibernation since after Resurrection & 3 decades since the 1st movie that started it all. They are not based off novels/books & written on the fly. Vangelis is one of my earliest synth / electronic music heroes & I am at least glad that he is still alive, though at his age you have to wonder how much longer. BR2049 still gets 80% positive review across the board despite no Vangelis, although I wonder if it would add more points to that if he scored it... scored it well. But there was also no hype buildup to 2049 so that could be a partial factor into why it didn't make a lot more money than it did, i.e. it made only less than twice its proposed budget.

The cityscape is downtown Tokyo and the building constructed and deconstructed is Roppongi Hills, a massive redevelopment by Mori Building that opened in 2003. With a mix of office, retail, residential, cultural and green space it provides an alternative 'near future' cityscape to that portrayed in the Bladerunner movies.

My dad used to play this song as well as the whole soundtrack when I was a kid and trying to go to sleep.

It is a tragedy that this tune, written for the film, never occurred in it.

Mary Hopkin was asked how she came to know Vangelis and record the vocal for this track: "I met Vangelis while he was working on the soundtrack. We became close friends and this impromptu track was recorded in one take - just the two of us in the studio. Beautiful melodies flowed effortlessly from his mind." Source: Jason Kruppa
