I bought this record when it was first released without having listened to a single track from it. For me, the name Vangelis on the cover was enough. I was buying his Greek 7" singles and LPs in the 1960s and I never got disappointed.

💥This song is an epic masterpiece!💥 The interplay of the synths, rain, electric piano, ⚡️thunder⚡️, kettle drums, marimba and the Lexicon reverb is amazing. What is striking to me of this piece is the phrasing of each instrument. With the exception of the flute that softly plods along counting time, different sounds comes in and out like birds speaking to each other across a field.

If someone ever doubted that J Dilla aka Jay Dee aka James Dewitt Yancey is the greatest producer of all time show him/her this sample. This man‘s dedication to his craft is unparalleled. Vangelis wrote, composed & produced amazing music, you decide to give praise to someoen who took part of a song from one of the greatest composer in history, and call them the greatest of all time? You choose to see what you want to see, that is worst than a blind man.
@lennartschubert Жыл бұрын
@@ericmontenegro814 My man, curiosity drives innovation. I was merely admiring Dilla's curiosity and the depth of his listening tendencies. If you talk to most HipHop Producers, they would either not know who Vangelis is or not sample him because it is not a 4/4 beat. Thus, Dilla stepped way outside of most producers' comfort zones by sampling this masterpiece. Eventually, it is you who decides to have a stick in his you-know-what by being so niche and limiting your own perspective on music that you do not recognize greatness in another man's capability to craft something new out of the great music that Vangelis put out there. Furthermore, it appears that you are not aware that Dilla opened up a new stream of listeners who not only come here to admire Dilla but also learn to appreciate the works of Vangelis. If this is something that bothers you, you should reconsider your approach to music. It is not here to be gatekept but to be appreciated by a broader audience who come from various backgrounds and perspectives. Sometimes it helps to take some time to recognize the bigger picture before making such comments.

there was a time when I particularly liked this album but it was a long time ago and now I am listening to rediscover it and writing silly things on the internet to pass the time. I still think that repeating note still sounds like a small creature's heartbeat just over a minute into this recording and so I think this record still rings a bell for me. "the day an ant wandered off the footpath into the grass, an unknown jungle, and went on a wonderous journey in the rain through this previously unknown territory". yeah... "the beast in the woods" on the front cover was not encountered, I suspect. maybe a feared encounter, momentarily, after the earthquake caused by the hopping crow. don't keep running around in circles now, even if being an ant you never sleep. but do you experience elation or fear? run, run, run, never sleep, but never fear...mister ant. (not that I am capable of recognising a miss or missus ant)...on yer never ending journey(s)...oh look, the rain has formed an ocean (puddle) in this clearing of the grass...when is the rain nice and when is your back garden a living orchestra? When Vangelis' Soil Festivities is playing. A mud bath for the senses even though you are squeaky clean. Such great orchestrations. Synth as symphony? On this album....yes. Rarer occurrence than one might think. Even in Vangelis land. Not being a "trained musician" or even able to read music, apparently, Vangelis relied on instinct a lot, but who ever instinctually arrived at a symphony? It is that thought that keeps my appreciation of his music alive, even if I think of listening to it but once a decade.

There are people who take a person's prose and use the up & down movement of the lettering, paragraphs, capitalizations, punctuation, moods to color and assign instruments . . . into music. Something that might be possible is to do the same by observing the motion(s) of God's universe . . . insects, animal, micro-biological, atmospheric, etc. AND CONVERT THAT INTO ASSIGNED SOUND . . . with a sensitivity to "does it please my (composer/transcriber) ear?".
