Great video Toby, as always! 👍 If you have time, can you please help me understand how is the 'accumulation' visible on Vanguard? I can see in Transactions / Corporate actions that at certain times of the year my investments got some dividend reinvested but how do I see how much I got or what is the impact on the overall gains. I tried to find this information on Google and KZbin but it seems everyone is talking about the fact that the dividend is reinvested instead of paid into your account but nothing more. Thanks!

I did a video about this last week :) - but in short for me it's being able to use all the platforms for what they are best. For example, not all platforms allow you to buy fractional shares. But having multiple accounts lets me use, and separate, my investments :)

Thanks for all of your videos mate, they've really helped, as a newiebie to the investing world very first time I've taken a dip into this field this year im very much out of my depth but everyone's trying to earn wealth and we have to start somewhere! Your videos as well as others have really helped break down and make things easier to understand and thank you so much for doing this, I contacted Vanguard about opening a pension account and they mentioned that when you're looking to withdraw at the end of your pension age etc there is something to do with paying a certain amount of tax, it went over my head but just wanted to ask you directly if in one of your future videos or any of your past videos I haven't seen yet, is there any information about opening an pension and what happens when you want to close and take your money out when you reach retirement age with Vanguard at all?

Thanks first of all. And secondly, the short answer is when you come to take money out of a SIPP (pension) you can only do this at a certain age (currently 55 for those retired now, but rising to 58 for people of my generation and later). Then - when you take money out, 25% of it is tax free, and 75% of it is taxed as income. But this doesnt happen all at once! Thank you for asking this question. I didn't know there were taxes to be paid when withdrawing from your pension, so your question and Toby's response was news to me! News that has upset me I must say 😅 Look to the left, taxes. Look to the right, taxes. Look all around, taxes, taxes, taxes! It's like you can't breathe without being asked to pay one tax or the other😅 Okay rant over...now off to see how I can set myself up to be as tax efficient as possible when it comes to my pension 😌

Hi @Toby, Quick question, do would you suggest that is better to invest purely on Stocks like the *FTSE Global All Cap...* from Vanguard, or a target age ETF? I'm currently 36 years old, and I just started investing with Vanguard in a medium risk target ETF.

it really is up to you :) - i prefer a simple global fund but if you want Vanguard to manage things for you then thats where the target funds come in.

Is it Worth doing the transfer across to Invest Engine from vanguard? Is it best to do a transfer in specie or sell out and transfer as cash?

In theory an In-Specie would be faster/ better as then you are not out of the market in cash - BUT remember in specie would only work us you are using ETFS and not mutual funds :). Could be something worth considering, as always a personal decision good luck!

Thanks for the update. The ISA account fee is often touted as a reason to move to a new provider but if you have a Vanguard SIPP which is 250k, the costs are then capped. This means that there is no extra account fee for keeping your ISA with Vanguard. Am I missing something?

You are totally right that if you have £250k in your Vanguard account any money in any account type no longer adds to your fees as fees are capped at £375 per year.

Slightly niche but... Vanguard takes fees proportionately across products held. By only holding a pension with Vanguard then, should someone meet the fee cap and pay fees from the pension, fees are, in part, paid with tax relief. That same person adding an ISA will still pay the cap, but even though it's favourable to pay fee from the pension, fees will proportionately be paid from already taxed money (ISA/cash). So paying £375 may sound the same either way, but how the £375 was arrived at (taxed money/tax relieved money) creates an effective cost difference in the fee cap.

Hi Toby, why do you have your S&S ISA with VWRP but your SIPP with vaftgag? Is this to do with the fees on Vanguard?

On Vanguards platform you cannot buy fractional ETF shares. VWRP is an ETF, whereas the FTSE Global All Cap is a mutual fund so you can invest whole amounts of money. This is the only reason :) I'd be more than happy with VWRP if Vanguards platform allowed fractional share dealing :)

I would assume it’s to have better flexibility, as the Isa assets can be sold at any point whereas the pension can only be accessed at whatever the pension age ends up being

you cant transfer a mutual fund - The FTSE Global All Cap is a mutual fund and IE only accept ETFs :)

But I do expect lots of volatility especially from the US side leading up to it as it will be a very close race I suspect. What you reckon?

I think Tesla cars have been found out. The other car manufacturers are doing EVs better with higher quality builds (much smaller panel gaps), better range or in the case of a lot of Chinese car companies cheaper. Once the EV infrastructure is better developed, the range is improved with the "range anxiety" disappearing and EV (and electricity) prices getting cheaper, the EV market will rebound. Especially if petrol heads back towards £2 / litre.
