Are Vanguard funds in a bubble? Or part of a wider bubble at least?
Well in this video, I wanted to explore the very reasonable argument that index funds are in a bubble. Is this even possible? Well, I look at all the data to verify the index bubble claim to see how true this might actually be.
Of coures, I will wrap up with my monthly update on my Vanguard portfolio to show you transparently all my gains and loses.

Thanks for the video. I sold half of my 3 Vanguard funds last month and I'm sitting on mainly cash at the moment as I'm expecting the market to go down in the short term. But what do I know. I'm no economist, I'm just an average numpty with an interest in investing. I see many economists on KZbin saying that the market is currently in a bubble and is due for a big correction. Who knows !

Hey Nick thanks for another informative video, really love your directness in explaining things. You've probably said this already but just wanted to make sure , are you still putting money into your single fund during these scary times? Also, how do you " protect" your investments when you just have a single fund? I keep hearing people say " you need to protect your investments during market corrections" what does that translate to in tangible terms for us with a single fund? thanks again Nick.

1) Am I still putting money into my fund at these scary times - Yes. 2) How do you 'protect' your fund - You can't. This term only applies to people who activately manager their portfolio. Got a video about the recent market correction coming on Sunday hopefully :)

Curious to know whether pension funds have evolved to also use index trackers or if this was always the case? Would've thought those through pensions would make up the bulk of index investors?

@@nickjm4108 please do, will make an interesting video! Would've thought back in the day pensions likely had their own teams looking into which stocks and active/passive funds to focus on depending on risk profiles and time horizons, however now they very much just use an approach like the Vanguard life strategy where they define a simple split of equities and bonds and the equities comprise of a global index fund, perhaps with another UK tracker and that's the extent towards they think about it. Another suggestion for a potential video in this space would be to know how the amount saved by the average person in pensions has continued to rise over time, how the average person should be considering separate isa savings alongside their pension (which are both being invested in similar vehicles), I for one have no idea how much of a pension I've built up in the few years I've worked but do keep track the value of my Vanguard Isa and HL LISA portfolios on a regular basis.

VWRL( current price £85) is biased towards the S&P 500 (~15%) which is down 10% YTD and probably won't increase until US inflation is reduced. I'm currently wondering whether to invest into gold given the state of the global financial system which in my opinion might even be worse than before the Dot Com crash.

Nope - dollar cost averaging is having a lump sum of cash and purposely spreading it out across a time period. As soon as my salary hits my bank each month, I invest it. Looks similar to DCA but very different 👍
@M8d9R
@M8d9R 2 жыл бұрын
I DCA into VRWL. If there is an index fund crash, then I keep DCAing. Therefore if I'm blind-buying companies expensively now, then after said crash I will be blind-buying companies cheaply. For me, it still seems to be the case that as long as you have time on your side, then passive investing remains superior to active in terms of costs and returns. I have used active funds in the past (on advice), you have to ask yourself if you're comfortable with giving away anything from 0.5 - 1.5% of your returns. Personally I'm not, if there's a big question mark they can even match the market consistently let alone outperform it by more than their charges. A lot of active funds sit on their positions for long periods of time as well - essentially a passive fund, active in name only, charging you 3x - 5x as much for the same thing, with less diversification and the risk of biased humans involved in with decision making. Think what it would actually take for VWRL to crash as well lol. Literally the biggest 3800 companies in the world all tanking, regardless of sector, geography, politics and whatever other factor. Anything over a 20% correction in value in VWRL would require a truly colossal event, and checking our ISAs will probably seem less of a priority at that point. In that situation, are active funds going to be in any better shape?
