Actually it is pronounced ‘Willis’ as in “Whatchew talkin’ ‘bout Willis. I always called them ‘Willies’ myself but I did a little research a while back and found that John Willys and all of the early literature specified (for customers and dealers) that the Y is pronounced as an I. I still can’t get used to saying it that way. I’m a Canadian eh?
