Two Ingredients , spectacular result. Try this easy Video recipe idea and be prepared for an amazing taste sensation.
Get a Jar of nice flavoured honey, get a vanilla bean cut it into thirds and pop it into the honey. Reseal and wait a week or two before opening and trying. Drizzle over fruit, in smoothies or on hot buttered toast and crumpets. Yummo!!!
Easy to make home made gourmet honey, even the bees would be impressed with this one.

Hi, I was planning to do this. Just want to know how strong is the vanilla flavour in honey in comparison to alcohol based vanilla infusion!?

Thank you very much for your question. The flavour from the Vanilla Bean is delicious, not too strong but imparts a very natural taste. The vanilla bean can then be reused in subsequent jars of honey or cooking. I have made alcohol based Vanilla Essence and it has a strong alcohol taste, great for cocktails but not as good for this recipe. Many cultures do not consume alcohol and children should not be given products containing alcohol. I have not used alcohol based essences mixed with honey, apart from the fact it would dilute the honey making it thinner, altering its natural consistency and possibly have a detrimental affect on its taste. Hope that helps and thank you very much for watching. Obviously the longer the Vanilla Bean ‘steeps’ in the honey the nicer it will taste. My suggestion is to try this recipe yourself and see if it suits your personal taste. I bought a jar of it from a prominent Wester Australian Winery and loved it so much I have been making it ever since. That is why I shared the recipe, so my viewers could enjoy the same experience.;-))

cheekyricho cooking Thank you so much for your time and the detailed advice. I have a doubt on my mind about the vanilla itself: I assume that the vanilla flavour comes from the vanilla seeds inside the pods!? So instead of soaking the entire pod what if we split the bean pod and scrape out the seeds into the honey!? Does the pod itself add any flavour at all is my question!? I have never tried making vanilla before so, pardon my ignorance if wrong...

My initial reaction is the seeds may sink to the bottom of the jar and concentrate their flavour in that area, especially if the honey you use is a light consistency or you live in a warm climate where the weather will affect the ‘thickness’ of the honey. Aesthetically speaking, the vanilla seeds have the appearance of fly ‘specks’ or dust, this may have a less than appealing appearance in your jar of clear honey.personally I quite like the appearance of the vanilla pod, which actually does have a vanilla flavour, without even releasing the captive seeds, the scent of the intact pod has a significant aroma. I like the appearance of herb vinegars, with the herbs suspended in the vinegar and many fine providores market these items for use and display. It’s a personal choice. Custards made with vanilla beans use the method you describe but also the spent bean is added to enhance the milk infusion, extracting the maximum flavour available, prior to discarding and continuing with the recipe. If you are after a more subtle taste, you can of course use more honey and less vanilla but we adore the flavour and fragrance so much I’ve been know to take a teaspoon from the jar to enjoy neat. However you decide to experience this recipe I am convinced you will be delighted with the result.;-))

cheekyricho I made some, yeah it's good in coffee, it's great on toast, the problem is, it don't last long enough :(
