As a beginner (only hats and scarves for 3 months). I can attest that knitting the fold over part with two pieces at the same time and matching up the stitches ( 18:16 ) is not beginner level. Beginner level is simply folding the cuff and turning it inside out to seam it. Or just steam blocking it in place! Knitting in the round + Magic loop + Increases + doing the thumb + working two separate colors is already 5 new things to learn when you're a beginner. Plus rub stitch if all you know is basic knit stitch. With that being said, this is a super useful video if you already have mastered the above + knitting two stitches together and doing increases. Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊✨

This is SUCH a good tutorial!!! Thank you so much for making it :) I just finished one mitten and I even managed to make it stripey! Now I have to do the left one and hope I can place my markers correctly for the thumb..

This is a great video. One of the best I've found for magic loop mittens. You've given me so many original and intriguing ideas. I'm going to try some of these on a mitten I'm starting right now! Thanks so much!

Hey there!! Love this video, love these mittens! You mentioned in your video a couple times that you would add a link for the SSK that you specifically do to the caption but I do not see that in the caption of this video. Could you provide that link please? The traditional way is definitely messier looking than yours! Thanks so much!!

Beginner here. I’m using a lighter weight yarn / smaller gauge and am following size L even though I am closer to XS. The mitten seems to be on the smaller side so far but fits ok given the stretch. I’m about to finish the right hand shaping but am worried the size of the thumb hole. It seems like additional stitches are added later for a triangle portion near the thumb later, but when trying on it seems a bit small right now. At this point, should stitches between the markers roughly fit my thumb, or what’s a good approximation (+ how many stitches)? I’m considering adding an extra repeat of ML / MR and slips.

The most critical part that I need to see, you knit off screen. 😩

Sad!! Which part did you need to see? I made sure it showed everything so maybe I have that part shown in a different spot?

Would a long tubular cast on work for the double cuff? I have been looking for better mitten patterns. This looks great!!
@Originally.Lovely
@Originally.Lovely Жыл бұрын
Hi Diane! A long tail tubular cast on could work for the double cuff, but I wouldn’t recommend it because it’s not the easiest cast on to pick up stitches from. A backwards loop cast on or a provisional cast on would be better if you planned to work the double cuff. If you plan on not working the double cuff, a tubular cast on is a great option and is actually my go-to cast on for any exposed edges. Hope that helps, happy knitting!

Hello, beginner knitter here! :) I have one question: when knitting the size M, you have 21 stitches on each side of the magic loop. When knitting the cuff in the beginning, in the k1, p1 pattern, you will end up on a purl at the end of the first side of knitting in the round. Do you continue with p1 for the second half of the round or do you each time start with k1, even if that means having k1 twice next to each other. Thank you so very much!
@Originally.Lovely
@Originally.Lovely Жыл бұрын
Hi! Good question. On the second half of the stitches start with p1 so that the k1, p1 pattern will be around the entire cuff, does that make sense? And then from there just be sure to knit the knit stitches and purl the purl stitches to keep the k1, p1 rib consistent!!

How do i start the thumb for left hand?
@Originally.Lovely
@Originally.Lovely 2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much the same as the right hand except it begins at the end of the round instead of the beginning of the round so the orientation is different! The pattern that accompanies the video goes over it in more depth and can be found here: www.originallylovely.com/knitting/vanilla-mittens-knitting-pattern/

Hi! I don’t have one specifically for kids but the smallest size of this pattern (XS) correlates to a kids size for ages 6-8 years old! The written pattern with all the sizes can be found here: www.originallylovely.com/knitting/vanilla-mittens-knitting-pattern/

So hard to not get ladders when knitting magic loop 🥺😢
@Originally.Lovely
@Originally.Lovely Жыл бұрын
Ugh yes that’s so annoying! I have a couple tips to avoid this: 1. pull the second stitch after you switch needles tight. This helps tighten the first stitch and in turn the gap between the stitches. 2. I use a longer cord (32” or longer)! If your cord is too short I find that it pulls on those edge stitches a bit too much. I hope that helps!! 🥰

@@Originally.Lovely It really is. Thank you so much for the tips, am definitely going to try it to see if it helps 🙏

hi, don't know if this still helps, but you can rotate in magic loop, so e.g. let's say you have twenty stitches on each needle, you start knitting the first four and then slide them down the cable to the other needle, then knit the remaining sixteen. when you get to the second needle, you knit 4, then slide those down the cable to the other needle and knit 16. this way, your 20 stitches remain on each needle but the place where the tension is different changes with each round or each other round. this has helped me so much! hope it helps you too :)

Sorry, but I spent 2 evenings knitting this mitten and the pattern is wrong. I was so frustrated, I took it apart. Pattern is now in the trash. 😢 The "Decreases" section does NOT add up.

I thought stockinette stitch was knit one row, purl one row?
@Originally.Lovely
@Originally.Lovely Жыл бұрын
It is when you are working flat! When working in the round all right sides are facing you, so you knit each row! Does that make sense?
