Forest zones like Teldrassil, Ashenvale and Elwynn Forest give you that fantasy experience the most. But I've always loved deserts more. Desolace, Tanaris and Silithus. The sense of isolation these zones gave me was never surpassed in the expansions.
@gonefishing97815 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, i just love emptiness
@toxendon4 жыл бұрын
Same here. The newer expansions seem to plan area design in terms of how to most effectively get from point A to point B with no wild areas just for the sake of immersion. paths cross over each other for no apparent reason, even going in cricles around the map. quest viers no longer feel like they are situated in a practical city, but are just standing on some platform 10 yards away from some demon lord. I wish they made the areas prioritizing plausibility above effectiveness.

This zone is amazing. Desert with open sky without any clouds. Looks like you not on planet, but in Space itself. First time you just can think, that you will lose gravitation. Perfect freedom with emptiness to the whistle sound. And feeling of some scary things. Especialy when you see THOSE CLAWS! Remember my first WotLK Night Elf hunter with a spider. Nice days.

By far one of my favourite zones in Vanilla. I remember walking over the hill from 1000 Needles, seeing Gadgetzan from afar and thinking I could tackle the place at level 37. Turns out I couldn't so I went back to 1000 needles and farmed Basilisk until level 40. Also home to one of the best Vanilla dungeons. Soundtrack is one of the best.

I remember when I was in school about 12 years old, I was leveling my night elf druid. My brother's paladin was a more leveled than my night elf and he was killing hyenas in Tanaris and I couldn't wait to reach the zone because there was a mystery about it and the isolation felt so nice. I remember playing mostly during night time and Tanaris felt wonderful during night time :)

Thank you for posting this. I haven't played Warcraft in ages because I feel it has lost its original feel and fun that were so pleasant in areas like tanaris. Thank you for rekindling my love and fond memories of this game.

Tanaris was full of danger and mystery to me. It was similar to STV, but the emptiness and the vastness, like you said, made it a much different experience. I don't mind Cata's iteration of Tanaris, but it doesn't feel the same without the original iconic desert tracks

Tanaris has a big spot in my heart. First time visiting Tanaris was painful. I hated it. Basically leaving safe place that the main camp was, meant instant death by lurking enemies, waiting for you to leave the camp. But now? I barely see anyone there. Most of the time I am there alone. Realizing I miss how alive that camp was. And so Tanaris is my big memory of painful, but fully enjoyable experience in wow. Feels like everyone left

For me, it's this 'edge of the world' sensation that few zones have in wow. I still remember the first time I found my way to the zone: I'd been out in at the racetrack in the shimmering flats when a huge sandstorm blew in over the area. Completely lost, I desperately tried to find the edge of the flats and stumbled across this small path leading away from the storm. Well over the ridge the music shifted and I could spot a huge gear through the storm. From old written guides I'd seen that weird sign mentioned and decided to head into the town. All in all a very cool and immersive experience, at least back when I was 13. In hindsight, that 'sandstorm' might have just been the short view-distance on my potato pc, but it really added to the experience.

I miss the real time gameplay, if you found a server with the exact same timezone, you had the exact same day cycle as real life, every spell/potion/curse duration was in real time, 20 minutes is a real 20 minutes, that was really unique, made it feel like a parallele universe. It was always night in my games cause I was playing late

I love Tanaris. My friend recommended I go there because it had a bunch of cool quests. It was an interesting journey to get there as an Alliance player. I had to take the boat to Ratchet, and travel all the way through the Barrens and the Thousand Needles since there were no flight paths for me to use. I spent a couple months there I think just grinding up levels and killing mobs. Zul'Farrak was a pretty cool dungeon and one of the quests for there gave me my first trinket, the Carrot on a Stick. Trinkets used to be very rare and hard to find outside dungeons and such. Oh and the music is great too! Very relaxing but also makes me think just how hot and harsh it must be with all the giant scorpids, trolls, basilisks and ogres everywhere.

I remember my trip was different a bit, I came from Stonetalon Mountains -> Desolace -> Feralas -> Thousand Needles -> Tanaris. I think I enjoyed most the lack of physical barriers here. An open space which initially would trick you that it's going to be easy to travel. But I was often dismounted from my mount and end up fighting at least 2-3 mobs. Awesome, like all zones actually :D Meisio

it really was magical, stepping into these zones. it felt so alive. like you were truly stepping into a hostile and unforgivable dessert. compare this to vol' dun. vol' dune looks like if you crammed an actual desert into a little disneyland pocket. you dont feel the vastness the only danger you get in voldun is how much you filled your azerite quota. old tanaris, old thousand needles, old shimmering flats... they really did feel like stepping into the mojave, salt flats race track, and the dunes of the middle east.

The music and the zones are undoubtedly the only truly positive things (and rightfully so) for me about WoW in the present day. Sure, I have great memories from when I was a child... but as an adult, the magic of the basic idea of the gameplay was gone. Nothing left but the catering to other people who got nothing else going for them than their progress in the raid, equipment or social standing in their guilds. Unbearable. Will listen to WoW's music and remember the times when I felt at peace with the game; playing alone and exploring.
