You're right about not looking at it as a money standpoint because it fails when you do that. I know I tried it that way and got no where. Now I love what I do (working my way to a full time artist) still working but getting there. I make candles and Have sold them. I dream about what I'm going to create, what scents I want to put together and decorating them. My customers are excited when I add new "eye candy" to the vessels with embeds and glitter. I mix my own oils to, getting unique scents that no one else has. My customers are foodies and enjoy food and drink scented candles, lol.

What a breath of fresh air this was to hear, and to read here. Many years ago when I was studying art, I had a major work due. I took photos of my piano, as I pulled it apart, showing the ‘harps’, and all the other workings on the inside, then went to a fellow student’s house and she showed me how to develop the photos, in her darkroom. I cut the photos up, to create a collage, rearranged them, and laminated it. And that was my major work. I loved it, because I was in love with my piano……. But it was just a piece of paper, and I was desperate, and thought it wasn’t enough. I had about a week to go before the due deadline. At night, I started imagining what to do with it, and how I could incorporate it into a wall hanging. I didn’t doubt that I would get a vision of it. Days later I woke up and with my eyes still closed, I could see the whole magnificent wallhanging, in minute detail!….. I knew when I opened my eyes, it would disappear, so I lay there for half an hour, and noted every part of it and when I got up I wrote and drew everything down, and what I needed, to make it, and went shopping. It was a fabric wallhanging, and had many, many different types of fabric - one with 5 wavy lines on it in black and white, which represented staff lines in sheet music, dark brown fabric for the walnut exterior, always calico, and that represented the raw wood interior, metallic gold embroidery yarn for the interior harp strings, black embroidery cotton for the knobs which the harp strings are attached to, narrow coloured ribbons for the felt around the pedals (these were my idea and not part of the vision, and the only input I had, apart from sewing it together)……. It was magnificent, and the collage could slip in and sat behind the crossed harp gold strings and easily slid in and out for when the hanging needed washing. The point is, I would never, in a million years, have been able to design something like this! - Our subconscious is an incredible tool. - I visualise my art business when I wake up, most mornings, but in a lazy way now, compared to that laser sharp desperate way I did it 40 years ago. This is the Law of Attraction, I know now, and I love it when creatives speak about it and use it to manifest the business they want. This is gutsy, and honest and connected, and true, and is not coming from a place of competition and smallness and meanness and ugliness. - The old business mode. And yet it is so easy to do, and so easy to overlook, and so quiet and unassuming, I forget about it. I just love that it is being mentioned here. I always need and want to be reminded of it, and the word spread.
@ForArtists2 ай бұрын

**stealing art suckssssssss** When you said "remember that girl that made rainbows and it took over the internet. I remember that but since no one gave her the credit for their inspirations, none of us remember who the original artist was. This sucks for her. And I have had it happen to me. In school my teacher made us write essays on our favorite artists. I hated this part of art study, I wanted to paint and learn other art forms not write essays about who was influencing us. I never realized how important this was until I fed my art to AI and it told me exactly who my influences were. I was stunned.💡💡💡 All of a sudden... it all made sense. I realized I wrote my essays all wrong.

very good advice. I love making things, as a creator it was hard to just pick one thing to concentrate on but I did kind of do that. I am HORRIBLE at social media it's not good for a shy person and try to have social media . I have a tik Tok and the 2 posts I made I took down after an hour. I have a TikTok with no posts. I have been on etsy for a year and have 35 sales after a year…..lol. I paid for advertising for those. In my mind I feel like I make cute stuff but maybe I don't. I have sale samurai so my seo is ok I think and my pricing is competitive. I guess I really need social media, I am 55 so that is not naturally easy for me.
