I'm so opposite these days after a huge declutter and downsize in 2023 to follow my heart from Canada to my new home in Ireland at age 69, I now have to learn how to slow down and create again. Lovely. I am an older lady and because of serious health issues, look at the stuff I have continued decluttering for 50 years. Lessons I have learned and am learning. 1. If you are buying a lot of storage tubs, you aren't seriously decluttering, you are re arranging 2. Don't wait to ru-use, gift, 9:29 recycle, donate etc., most people don't want you stuff, and you have to throw it away

I left my heart and my son at University 3 weeks ago. I came home and was just down- not depressed, just in a very weird head space. I also turned 50, which is another huge moment and weird head space. The house was a disaster, from pulling stuff to send with him and just not having the time to take care of things. Add in normal life, and well, here I am. I pulled EVERYTHING out of every nook and cranny and have been putting like with like. If I know I do not need something, out it went to my vehicle immediately. I'm still working through and it may not be the fastest way but I'm getting it done. I like your idea of layers. I can breathe a little bit more now. It's been nice.

Wendy, I am exactly where you are. I have collected/accumulated so much stuff that was supposed to be inspiration. I have spent the past few years shifting boxes and baskets around depending on my current project. But, at 61, this isn't how I want to treat my body anymore. If guests came to stay, I would have to load up boxes in my van, then unload once again. I have am having shoulder surgery two weeks into Dec. and have spent the last six months in a serious deep purge and organizing, building new storage, etc... Everyone around me is used to me saying, for years, that I'm organizing and decluttering. But I need to come back during recovery to relax and rediscover where my creativity will lead me for the next chapter in my life. So, thank you for sharing. There are so many of us creatives that understand how we can get ourselves stacked behind the wall of our creative clutter. Cheers!

I have been decluttering my sewing and crafting room. It's definitely a work in progress, mostly because I have more fabric than I have places to put it. What doesn't fit on the shelves are in plastic totes, but I can't see inside without taking it all out. I will work through it all and then attempt to not have more than the shelves will hold. I have donated some fabric I know I won't use (a lot of this was given to me) as I use mainly cotton and cotton blends for the charity quilts I make and give away. I'm also going through each shelf that holds other crafting items and I have donated 3 bags and a box full of stuff so far. I've donated about 8 reusable shopping bags to a local group that gives free organic produce to those on a lower income, which includes me. I can't help garden but I was glad to find a small way to help them out. One thing I declutter often is my bin of scrap fabric, and it needs it again, I make very colorful and scrappy quilt blocks from the smallish pieces from the bin and save them until there is enough for a whole quilt. I've donated some books to the library here at my apartment building, gave a stand mixer to a lady here who had a broken one, bought a diy cabinet to fit in the hall that replaced a smaller one and gave the smaller one away. I need to go through my clothes, some are really worn and I have some new ones I need to hem shorter. I have one of those drawer units like you and James put together and I'm thinking of getting another to replace the plastic 3 drawer unit that can't handle the weight very well. I'm doing my best to let something leave if I bring something in.

A beautiful video with you and James today. I really needed to hear this message today of “Letting Go and we have no control over what we cannot change”. The Serenity Prayer was a good reminder for me. I also have been changing my eating habits and have lost a few pounds but at time resort to eating those foods I know are bad for me. It does no good to beat ourselves up, we just need to press on and get back up. I’ve had such pain with my sciatica that it’s been very hard to get anything done really. Finally got my home cleaned up which took all my energy. I too have fibromyalgia as so many that watch you Wendy. Thank you for being so honest and sharing your journey. I stopped going to thrift/charity shops as it’s so easy to buy, buy, buy. I started the process of decluttering and it’s a slow process. Trips to Florida due to mother passing and brothers radiation treatments stalled the process but started the process. It’s hard to let go but much needed to clear the mind and freeing too. Love the way James is so-loving and supportive and is marvelous at all the stuff he does to make life easier for you Wendy. He truly is wonderful. You are such an adorable couple. Love the banter between you both. Loved that beautiful church and the bells ringing. In America we do not hear bells very often… so sad. We are all a work in progress and deserve love and grace is a beautiful statement. I e been looking at my spaces in my condo and things need to change. Also I need to make changes in my courtyard too as I lost a lot of plants when I was away. Two days this week in the garden space while sitting down to ease the pain but felt so good. I love how your studio is looking and that beautiful IKEA paper drawer storage is great. Thank you Wendy and James. Have a super, magical week. Love to you both. You look beautiful dear friend. ❤❤❤

I'm using our dreadful heat wave here in California USA to procrastinate. I'm getting ready to "really" declutter my studio and rearrange it. It's going to be a very big job. Wish me luck. I love your blogs. You and James work so well together. Hugs to you, Wendy.❤❤❤

OMG, James and your banter reminds me of me and my hubby. He is a scientist, and I’m a creative highly sensitive person (HSP) and our brains work so differently. He doesn’t get what I try to tell him and vice versa, but we are so bonded. Lol.

What a lovely video, it really made me happy. Watching you assemble IKEA stuff made me laugh to myself, because I remember how I was struggling with it. We moved into our new house about 4 years ago now and most of the furniture was from IKEA, and I still remember getting it wrong lots of times. Once, I even got stuck in a big sliding door cupboard while trying to attach the doors with my son and husband-oh, what fun! I do adore how you interact with each other, so much love and respect. And I do love your messages, it feels like you are channeling higher knowledge from the universe. Thank you again for an uplifting video.

True story: my grandmother, who was in her 80's and drove BY HERSELF 6 hours to see me ❤was visiting for a week. She noticed I had a large pathos ivy like yours in my kitchen. She asked when I got it and I told her maybe a year ago. She said-you need to give it away, ASAP! I asked why-it was thriving. She said it thrived off chaos and drama and was horrible for relationships (meaning wife and husband, girlfriend/boyfriend, parents/kids. I laughed at this and regret it now because as I thought back after she went home-there had been trouble in my home. I know this much, you don't live to be 93 (born in 1920) and turns out, her words were prophetic. Just sharing an older generation's observations. Congrats on giving up alcohol, your brain cells are grateful as is your entire body and it sure helps the bank account too! ❤

I always heard lore of it being a "money" plant, and the devil's ivy part was because it was hard to kill it, even in low light situations or forgetting to water it weekly (I spaced watering mine for about a month and it only had a few dead leaves on it. Bounced back quickly.) And the only time I have ever been completely strapped for money has coincided with the times I haven't owned one of these plants. for the last 20 years I have been sure to at least bring a cutting or two of plant with me if I have to move and am not able to take the whole plant. The one I have now is a child plant of the one my mom has raised almost my entire life and its vines run from a plant stand in a corner of my dining area of my kitchen and trail up to the ceiling to a plant hook that is somewhat unstable (SO used the wrong hardware and missed the stud, he means well,) and from there I've run the vines along each wall. .... HAHAHA, and "MONEY is the root of all evil"... lol, hmm yeah, just had a good think... maybe your gran is right... SO and I bicker about money... plant is great, our relationship has been ... well, not so much the last couple years... so do I keep my legacy plant (which my grandmother was the original carer for, mom took her plants when she died and this is a cutting of my gran's/mom's plants) and ditch the dude? (who's been a total wanker for the last 5 years) or do I ditch the plant and see if the wanker pulls his head out of his bum and gets a job? Decisions, Decisions... and to be honest, I'm kinda leaning to plants, pets, peace and personal space rather than another 30 with wanker manchild at the moment. I'll go ponder this with my tea before I tackle my closet......... love and light and blessings all.

That church at the beginning of the video is absolutely stunning. I envy all of you living in the UK because you’ve kept so much history. You have so many buildings that have been there for as far back as anybody knows and statues. Unfortunately in the US we’re losing our history. I won’t go into all that, but I really do envy y’all

My goodness! I hope they do not ruin Historic Savannah. Savannah is so beautiful. I love visiting there esp. In early Spring. It is so steeped in history and it has that mysterious southern atmosphere. Our little town in NC is very old. There are very few historic buildings left. Local governments do not think a thing about tearing down old buildings for so called progress.

Thank you Wendy, James, every good woman needs an expert in DIY.The process of working together is what a good relationship is all about. Taking time out from the office and enjoying the day is a definite way to move on with any declittering , clears the mind and makes it less of a struggle to let go of unwanted unloved items. I like charity shop buying esp. unusual items, most often I take something from my home that I stopped looking at or noticing take it to a charity shop and often replace it over time, sort of paying to borrow an item , a big Thankyou you Both for a relaxed easy to watch video. Hugs and Blessings 💚🌹

Wendy your space is coming along so nicely, and love the piece from Ikea, great idea to store beneath the table! James is a lot like my better half, he's really good at putting things together, I'm a bit hopeless in that area, but like you I like to plan out a room to be workable and organized. I've got my little craft room all tidy and there is always room to improve upon. I try to think of ways to make my crafting more enjoyable when you can see where everything is, and put it back and know it will be there next time round to use it. Great video, so enjoy you both! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, you have a lot of insightful views and it is food for thought for me!! All the best to you and James, look forward to your next video! Hugs to you both from across the pond !!:))😊🎨🧚🧚♂🧚♀♥♥♥

I'm also changing my health habits. I'm drinking more water, eating more fruit and vegetables where I can and making sure I eat regular meals despite not having any appetite.I've also gotten back into working out since I always find my energy levels and mood are better when I regularly exercise. The main thing though, has been letting go of mental struggles I've had for years and just choosing not to entertain that anymore. Also, I love a good declutter. Feels so good to just get rid of stuff you no longer need and reorganise. I always feel so much better

At 50, I had a huge release from the stresses of the past. I am now, at present, at peace. But until that moment of release, I was trying to fill the void. Everyday is a place of calm and zen- but only if you set boundaries. We really do not need to do much. A simple life is rewarding!
