He looks like a retired actor who is now a theater teacher that lets you call him by his first name. But like, if you seem him at the grocery store, he’d look like Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

They do look alike. I get him confused with James Franco, not because they look alike, but I dunno. They have the same handsome attitude. But I think James is probably sillier. I'm glad JGL was able to relax once he started getting the roles that made him feel professional.

What an incredibly normal dude. He's just an actor and understands how the game works since he's been in it since he was a kid. Crazy to see no ego and no eccentricity out of an actor being nostalgic of a career. Refreshing he came out of Hollywood with a career as a child actor and an adult actor without having any sort of that strangeness that his peers get.

It also seems that, unlike many child actors that may have been talented and enjoyed some aspects, his being an actor was likely his genuine choice. He speaks about his drive to act in dramas like someone who always was spurred on by genuine joy in his craft? Maybe not all the projects, but just HAVING a project to be proud of seems to have been his aim. You hear of a lot of child actors who may have started off loving it, but eventually want to stop and are almost pushed to continue by family/friends/agents/society in general. Instead of being allowed to say "yeah i think i'm done" (like i was allowed to do when i decided i didnt like soccer) these child actors are made to stay in a vedy high pressure lifestyle against what they would necessarily choose. Joseph (appears) to have chosen to stay on his career path the entire time.

The idea of serious child actors is honestly crazy to me. To think he was 10yrs old in a big movie like A River Runs Through It and was so serious about "hitting his mark", studying lines and all the stress that comes with it. I think about my 10yr old and wld never want that for them but at the same time someone like JGL says he loved it so it goes to show you that some ppl were just born to do it

I love 500 Days of Summer. I was a freshman in college when I first saw it and fell in love with a girl at first sight. At that time on the first couple of viewings I was upset at Zoeys character. It echoed a lot of what I wanted in my relationship with the girl I loved. It ended between us and I felt jaded like Joseph’s character. As I matured I watched it again and realized how I idealized that girl and how I made up what she was in my head and not who she actually was as a person. That I was selfish, just like he was selfish putting expectations on someone else. I love that movie it helped me grow up a bit.

That Robert Redford moment is a slice of pure gold. The confidence it would have given him to hear a Hollywood legend like Redford say “I never hit my marks” - not to mention the conceited effort to keep it quiet, as if he was telling him a secret no one else knew. Wil Wheaton tells a story about William Shatner that’s the EXACT opposite - where Shatner was mean, short and just generally demeaning towards him (the first time the two met, when Wheaton was a child actor). It’s very telling to a persons strength of character in how they treat their subordinates (and indeed children). Redford was a class act. He helped change the actor’s role in Hollywood - absolute legend.
