lowgravityascents.com - Update to building my camper van for #VanLife: Bed is mostly complete, water storage and cooktop, kitchen and desk area installed. Just a little bit more and the van will be complete! I'll go into more detail for each component once it's done.

Think about this maybe... When the bed is in "couch-mode", think "chaise lounge" instead. At the forward end of the bed build a shallow shelf unit that will support you as you 1/2 sit, 1/2 recline. Make it tall enough to support your head with maybe a wedge cushion as back support as well?

Looking Very well planned out! I subscribed! I am trying to see if I am going to build one or just buy one. I like the Creative side to building your own.

I just started following your videos. Really want to do something like this myself. I work as a professional circus performer and could use it for that. I'm also just about to start my 5 year engineering program in the fall. Would be pretty crazy if I could build it this summer and then liv in the van during my education.

Thanks for the comments so far, everyone. I'll address the height of the bed in a later video. It had to be this high for the other factor I wanted.

I thought fuel economy would be affected by the added weight, but then in my own work van, it went from 14 to 13, empty vs fully loaded. the vans are so heavy to start with its a match on a fire adding weight.

I'll also share where we got the plans for the bed, but hint: we did it just by looking at pictures. There was no step-by-step instructions.

I was about to ask if you had made the bed. I'd like this type of bed set up. My van needs a little help. I am not planning to live in the van, but I want to camp, and use it for work, I want it comfortable and homey. If I use the plan I will link back to your channel.

***** what would have happened if you made the bed lower so you had sitting headroom? Was there a reason you decided not too?
@thereidss
@thereidss 9 жыл бұрын
I'm confused are you not putting in a mattress? The other commenter had the same question I had, why not give yourself more head room. Sitting up right long term would be so much nicer.

what did you do with the heater/AC unit that is in the back? I assume it's under the bed. my van Has the same thing. it kinda sux because it requires a person to build around it and taking up space.

why not move the bed to the front and have frig and power stuff in back. that way bed could stay out all the time.

Lisa Coley I briefly thought of that, but didn't want my bed so close to the 3 main doors and windows of the van. It also would have closed off access to the rear unless I crawled over the bed or entered from the back every time. And lastly, it would have made everything feel a lot more cluttered. When I have the bed pushed in, there's a nice "wide open" area all the way from the cab back to the kitchen. It feels much less claustrophobic. Thanks for your comment!

How did you make the bed slide out and also open on top like that
@DavidSandel
@DavidSandel 9 жыл бұрын
clark Grizwalt It's a little too complicated to explain in a comment. Check out my video that's dedicated just to the bed and that will explain a little better. I'm also planning to write a blog post with detailed instructions and many more pictures.

I thought this was a high top conversion van that you took the interior out of in the previous video? This doesn't look like the same van.. if it is I am wondering why you took out eveything above the sides and covered over the windows.. Why didn't you just go with a cargo van if you were going to ruin it like this? Seems like a waste.
