I grew up in the woods and once when my whole family was eating dinner outside in the screened porch, we all clearly heard that sound of a screaming woman in the woods. It was a black panther, which was known to pass through the area. It was a bone chilling eerie sound, to say the least, and something I'll never forget. I wouldn't go in a tunnel in bear and mountain lion country in the day... certainly never at night.

The story you tell about hearing the screams that were "mimicking" a human definitely sounds like a mountain lion. You're a brave soul for saying "skinwalker" out there during that story lol I don't believe in all that stuff generally but the genuine fear you see in Navajo people when they discuss these things makes me apprehensive to say it when I camp in the 4 corners area, which I do several times a year. I think a lot of what attracts spirits/the paranormal to places like old mining towns is the greed and debauchery and violence inherent in such places. Human emotions tend to accumulate in locations and the objects found there, including in things like gemstones, as you mention, and darker, negative emotions seem to attach themselves stronger than positive ones. You rarely hear about happy places where nothing bad happened being haunted, but wherever there is suffering or unexpected misfortune, you are sure to find some kind of spiritual activity.

I remember the first time that I heard the sound of something trying to mimic a woman screaming for help: I was serving in the army; it was a hot, damp summer's night, and I was on guard duty at a warehouse full of supplies and other stuff, in the middle of a grassland with patches of swamp and forest here and there. It must've been around 3:00 am. I heard rustling coming from some bushes close to the warehouse, and then a bloodcurdling scream that sounded like a woman was in danger, but with bestial notes, as if something was trying to mimic a human cry for help. Then, another one nearby. And another one. And before I knew it, I could hear almost half a dozen screams coming from different directions; when I started shedding light to where those screams came from, I could see pairs of glowing eyes fixated right at me. I was surrounded by at least six pairs of eyes, and I could hear more screams getting closer and closer. Keep in mind that soldiers on guard duty are only allowed to shoot under very specific conditions, and being afraid of glowing eyes and screams isn't one of them, at least where I come from. At this point, I could either defend myself in melee when these things tried to attack, or I could head back to my relatively protected guardpost. I chose the latter, but made sure to walk calmly, looking out at every possible direction while doing so, as to spot early any incoming attackers, and have a fighting chance against them. After a couple of minutes that felt like an eternity, I reached the post safely, closed the door behind me, and locked it for good measure. Soon, a dozen creatures had surrounded the guardpost, screaming like there was no tomorrow, but always hidden in the tallest grass and bushes, with only their glowing eyes betraying their positions. They eventually dispersed when a military truck arrived, and soon after, my guard duty was over for the night. I informed the other guard about the incident and went on my way. As I was told the next morning, it was probably a pack of jackals, as the cries of jackals and foxes do sound like human women in danger. The thing is, jackals do love ganging up, killing and eating solitary creatures. So, if that night I had tried to run like crazy towards the guardpost, or if I tried to play it brave and move towards the glowing eyes, I would've been a huge steaming pile of jackal poo in no time. It was neither fight, nor flight that saved my bacon that night, but rather the fact that I kept my cool and did a tactical retreat towards a safe place, without showing fear, but showing great awareness. I passed from that place a few days ago and, after two decades, it is now being developed. Soon, it will be full with brand-new houses. My mind raced back to that night, and I couldn't help but think about those jackals, and what happaned to them. Did they migrate to another location, or did they die in their burrows when the bulldozers arrived and started demolishing the trees and flattening the earth?

Hello Trent, In circumstances such as this, it would be wise to have a contingency plan for Milly. In the unfortunate event something happens to you while traversing through the forest alone, at night; someone would need to come retrieve her or she'll be trapped in the vehicle. It might even be better to leave her with a local friend if the option exists before going on risky adventures.

@@CrisR07. yes they are real. I am not alone in seeing the thing. I was driving home from work and what looked like half wolf, half man lept over the hood of my car. I watched it disappear over the railing of the bridge and into the field. I thought I was going crazy, my boss at the time was a native american man who w a healer. I went to him and told him what I saw. He confirmed it was a skinwalker. Later that year I learned from others at work and in my community that they had also witnessed this. I lived at the time very near the rez. My grandmother was part native american and I grew up hearing stories. Check into native american folk lore. You will learn more.

I'm so glad that he has a dog with him, because they're such great company. I have to say, I do love his hair - and hope he doesn't cut it anytime soon! Reminds me of a really uncomfortable night I spent in our Sprinter conversion about 18 years ago. It was in the New Forest, UK and we'd been to visit my Aunt who lived in a nearby town. It was August and it was just myself, my husband and our youngest daughter, then 8 years old. She was crazy about horses at the time and we hoped to get a glimpse of the famous semi- wild New Forset ponies. We pulled into a small, gravelly area marked Rufus Stone at dusk. There was nobody else parked there. It was a peaceful spot, but as darkness fell I began to feel really spooked out. The other two seemed oblivious to the vibes but I was hyper alert. I thought maybe I was sensing the presence of the wild boar which also roam the forest but there wasn't a sign of any large animals. It was so scary stepping outside in the dark to have a pee before bed! I lay awake most of the night and it felt like a hostile presence was actually inside the van with us. Horrible! In the morning we awoke to tne sound of curious ponies approaching the van, no spooky vibes at all. Later I found out that the place is supposed to be haunted because King William Rufus was murdered there while out hunting.
