Join us in the third part of our 3 week campervan road trip to discover the Counties of the South West of England. We leave Devon behind and head into beautiful south Cornwall. Exploring the quaint harbour towns of Mevagissey and Mousehole, the stunning white sandy beaches and hidden coves around Porthcurno and the industrial past of this beautiful part of the world.
We are Richard and Jackie and we live in the UK. We retired from teaching at the age of 51 in the summer of 2022. Our plans for early requirement include relocating to the Yorkshire Dales, developing our forever home and travelling the UK, Europe and eventually the world in our VW campervan Nelson.

I quite agree with your comments on teaching. I retired at 55 so that my wife and I could spend 'quality time' together travelling with our caravan. She passed away 3 years ago but I am so grateful for those years. On another topic, I'm not so sure a larger van is absolutely what people suggest. You definitely lose the ability to explore those out of the way places that make it all worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing this Ken and we are sorry for your loss. After I lost my Dad and brother suddenly, we decided that we just wanted to make the most out of every day and have the opportunity to make memories together. On the van front, we are taking all the advice on offer and are thinking towards a 5.5m van for exactly the reasons you have given. Even a 6m van looks big in a normal parking space. R

What a lovely vlog! I have such happy memories of Cornwall, of fun camping trips over the years… from the days with Mum & Dad, who used to hire a traditional canvas tent with wooden poles, all the way through to Chris & I in our little VW campervan! Thank you for sharing your adventures Richard & Jackie, I am thoroughly enjoying them! xx

My favourite part of the world. Have sailed to some of those powers many times. A different perspective from the sea. Fun to catch up with you and your videos as I slowly trek up through Sweden on my way north and in my little ford transit campervan. It looks warmer in your girdles, it’s been about 5 degrees here but today was. Balmy 15 degrees. Keep up the great what.

We absolutely loved the whole of the trip along the south coast. The weather was really good for our first week in Cornwall which certainly helps make it look even more stunning. The colours of the sea that change with the light conditions were fascinating. 🚐 we moved to Sennon and St Ives which were equally as stunning in the next video

We have loved our trip and venture down south and certainly could have spent many more weeks as there is so much to see! We have been really lucky with the weather with only one day of rain - it has been cold but that just makes it more cosy and you can wrap up warmly to get out exploring. We are loving our wanderlust explorations and the freedom the van gives us to visit virtually anywhere in Europe. 🚐😊♥️

Hi there- thanks for the comment and great question. Don't get us wrong, we absolutely loved teaching and all that it brought to our lives. We had the privilege of spending lots of time with our own kids as they grew up- for which we are forever grateful. We loved working with young people and supporting their learning and watching them growth into young adults. Probably the biggest reason we chose to leave was down to a really traumatic 2021 that was full of personal loss in our family- it caused us to critically reevaluate our lives and make the change. It was never a move away from teaching, but more of a complete change for us as a family. We realised that life is so precious and so short lived, we wanted to get the most of every minute we had together. Teaching is one of the greatest professions in the world and we would always encourage people to go into the profession. Don't get us wrong, it's not easy, but we loved it. Good luck in your plans, Richard & Jackie

Hi, took the family to Looe last year. My teenage sons love the tv drama ‘Beyond paradise’, which is set there. We spent almost a full hour chatting to the RNLI volunteers, who were so informative that it kept two teenage boys interested. We went to Mousehole when the boys were little, it’s my perfect Cornish fishing village. If you have young children buy the book ‘The Mousehole cat’ and read it to them. SCO.

Hi we have a fly sheet awning that we use sometimes in the summer if we are a campsite for a few days but on this trip we moved on every couple of days and it was far too windy. We were also at P4N spots for quite a few nights where you can’t show ‘camping behaviours’. We don’t have a drive away style awning as we don’t need the space and it would be another thing to lug around when touring 😊 hope that helps? 🚐

Mousehole needs to be seen at Christmas when the village is famous for its light display. On the subject of seagulls the one in Mevaggissy you showed in your film looked so innocent but I’ve seen them swoop down over peoples shoulders and pinching food out of their hands. Worse still I’ve seen them attack a young children in pushchairs who have had food I; their hands . So to everyone visiting Cornwall please don’t feed seagulls!
