I'm sure the ride will be better than on the S3, but not having the matrix display is a really big thing for me personally. I don't like having to use my phone in all weather conditions, especially because the display isn't visible at all in direct sunlight and with sunglasses on (iPhone 12). It would be nice to have a smaller display, instead of the rings but let's see. It's also a bit getting used to it. I believe that VM already ran some tests and tried to understand whether people like it or not. :)

I had a test ride as well in Amsterdam. The frame is smaller then my S2, but for my height ( 1.83) ok. The performance is much better then the S2. The bike is really silent. Looking forward receiving my ordered S5. I really enjoyed the S5, a significant improvement compared to the S2.

how is the paddel assist? ive heard that you have to give more power yourself to activate the assist?

@@tomfritz6257 previous VanMoofs are giving the push according to the assist level so it doesn’t matter how hard or soft you pedal you‘d get a constant support until the assist levels top km value is reached now with the torque sensor its different since the bike knows how much pressure you put on, the more pressure on pedal the stronger the support is going to be and its a more natural feeling as well as better for the gears while riding uphill

Thanks Niclas! Indeed, they are only offering test rides in Amsterdam. Next week its expected to start in Berlin (actually it had to start today on 16.08). Almost every store have the S5s as far as I know but only a few for training purposes. They are all from the same batch, with welds done by hand etc. the production models may look still a little different (hopefully better) in many perspectives.

Hi there Micael, yes the front wheel motor of S5/A5 is stronger with 68Nm boost torque, meaning it accelerates faster than the S3/X3 (59Nm). The engine is also more efficient, the bicycle has a smaller battery compared to the previous model but the same range.

What are the biggest differences between the S3 & S5 in your opinion?

It's thicker and shorter :) faster (68Nm Boost Torque, compared to 59Nm of S3/X3). The e-shifter is quiet and changes the gears seamlessly. Kick-lock is also nice, you don't need to move the bike forwards or backwards anymore, it just unlocks. They reengineered all the bike parts to make them more reliable and stable. They didn't put that much importance on the looks this time, so far hand welded prototypes have ugly joints. Let's hope that it will be better with the serial production models. The bike is technologically more advanced then the previous models, won't easily break down, if it does then it will be fixed faster than ever.

Bisiklet çalınırsa 2 hafta içinde bulmaya çalışıyorlar, bulamazlarsa eş degerini gönderiyorlar. Yalnız aksesuarları kapsamıyor. Bildiğim kadarıyla diğer sigortalar hep ekstra kilit şart koşuyorlar. Onun dışında bisikletin 3 sene garantisi var. Bişeyler kendiliğinden bozulursa değiştirmek zorundalar, ya da sana gerekli parçaları ve aletleri yolluyorlar. Kaza falan da yapmaktan pek korkmuyorum ama ne olur ne olmaz kaza sigortası yaptırsam mı da diye düşünüyorum. Elim yatkın aslında bu tip işlere, kendi bisikletlerimi hep kendim tamir ediyorum fakat e-bike falan diyince gözüm korktu. Sence Eindhoven gibi bir şehir için 3 yıllık PoM Theft mi yoksa 3 yıllık bir e-bike sigortası mı? Pek karar veremedim.

What is that strange braking noise when stopping?? i actually don't see real differences between the 2021 S3. (that's hard to tell of a video ofc) i dont like the saddle and pedals on these bikes and it looks like their still the same. fortunately i replace it and its way better.

it comes from the brakes, apparently one of the brake pads and the disc were not well aligned therefore it made such a weird sound then push hard on the breaks.. there are many small differences.. downtube is much thicker, frame is a little smaller, almost all electronics parts of the bike etc. are re-engineered re-created like the ‘kick lock, eshifter, engine, chain tensioner.. list goes on :)

`Wat is dat geluid vanaf 3min 03 sec? EDIT: ik lees dat het van de remmen af komt. De S3 heeft altijd piepende remmen. Dan weet je precies wanneer er een van Moof achter je rijdt als je een bocht nadert.

@@vanmoofer That’s not even the point, I can live without any display on the bike if needed. One of the aspects of the S2 and S3 that everyone mentioned to me positively was that these bikes looked like ‘regular’, well designed bikes, not like ebikes. The unobtrusive nature of the matrix display helped. Unless the rgb halos can be switched off, they make the whole bike look like a toy. And compared to the current display they are a clear step back in terms of UI. Add to that the uninspired frame color, and unfortunately I’ll have to continue to ride my S3 until I can’t get new rear wheels / gear hubs any longer… If the Halos can be disabled in the app, I might change my mind.

Moet je hard trappen als je rond de 30kph fietst? Ik heb nu een Veloretti Ace (heel tevreden mee), en die heeft ook een torque sensor net als deze nieuwe S5. Ik merk alleen dat als ik 30 ga op mn Ace dat ik behoorlijk veel aan het trappen ben. Is dat hier wat relaxter op? als ik S3 eigenaren tegenkom trappen ze nauwelijks bij 30kph!

Het was niet moeilijk om 30 km/h te halen. Maar de fietsen hadden aangepaste software en het was een beetje anders. Productiefietsen moeten een strikte beperking van 27 km/h hebben. Dat kun je pas zien als de leveringen beginnen.

the prototype bike would kick the boost until 30 km/h the rest was pedal power, then I got the info from the staff that the prototype software allows an additional %10 of boost.. the production bikes will be strictly limited to 27-28 km/h for boost (or level 4 support)

@@vanmoofer ja! Grootste ergenis voor mij in Amsterdam. Het is gewoon te druk om lekker relaxed naast elkaar te gaan rijden. En dan nog boos worden als je belt om er langs te gaan. Ik heb pas 10 maanden een vanmoof, maar deze ergenis had ik de voorgaande jaren op mijn gewone fiets ook al. Ga gewoon rechts rijden! Zo staat het ook in de wet. Rechts aanhouden. Niet bellen, niet appen, gewoon opletten, voor een goede doorstroming.

When using the boost do you have to pedal? Could you not pedal and just use boost for a period of time?

well its a pedal assisted bicycle, therefore its mandatory to pedal, with S3/X3 it is possible to press boost and very slowly turn the pedals to get the speed without any effort but S5/A5 have a torque sensor, so it measures the pressure on the pedals and regulates the speed/boost accordingly :)

Mine once had a problem, I sent it in with UPS to Utrecht, they fixed and returned it within 8 days. Once I wanted to straighten a front wheel, the local bike shop asked me to come back after three weeks. They can‘t fix any other e-bike that easy anyway since they don‘t store engines, sensors. They take your bike in and keep it there until the parts arrive and it takes weeks sometimes months.

Love VanMoof, but can you believe the very poor quality of communication Order A5 in April promised delivery June paid for the bike in full, then VanMoof sorry delay of 61 days global supply crisis, will be despatched between 1 - 30 September now 31 August VanMoof sorry global supply chain problem your bike will now be despatched 1 - 30 October. Very worried that VanMoof have my money and no bike delivered, I hope that my payment is safe and that these problems will not cause cash flow problem for VanMoof, is there a risk they could cease trading as they have no products to deliver, very concerned. No I have still not received the bike told a further factory delay so now the delivery was going to be late November/ December so we have cancelled our order and switched to Cowboy from Belgium offer a very similar style of bike
