I made a candle stick phone with a round candy tin for the head of the transmitter and a plastic shot glass from dollar tree for the cone . easy to find. and the bottom was s metal ceiling light fixtures piece from an old light fixtures. they still sell new ones at hardware stores. and the same pvc pipe for the stick I used a wall pipe or conduit mount for the ear piece hanger. the earpiece was a top to a break fluid bottle cut off.

My favorite is the scythe! 🕓 46:38 The rusted metal looks so good and the hot glue bolts/screws are so realistic. Also the scythe is just cool in general, looking like a rare bird.

Your videos are always good but this one in particular is stuffed full of creative inspiration and with every project I was thinking "oh, I wanna make that" 😄 To save my "to try" list getting any longer than it already is, I'm restricting my choice (for now 😏) to my absolute favourite - the bamboo, which was amazing! 😍 👍

OMG! My husband retired for a company that still makes Sythes and yours looked so real. Company name: Midwest Rake, formerly known as Seymour Manufacturing Co. I was fascinated by how realistic using just simple materials. Only thing I saw missing was a small hand peg on the handle mounted about halfway down. Great Job!

Given you use various adhesive, a video on their use would be great. One of the early projects seemed to be all CA glue; another early one was contact cement. (my guess is that I will see even more adhesives as I keep watching these). This is what made me think that adhesives could be group by ways other than just material (which itself would still be useful to know).

A few years ago the independent film company I was Prop Master for made a short movie about a haunted antique phone. The phone's design was based on a real type of antique phone and the Production Company found a person that had one BUT he wanted $200 a day to use it, not to mention at the end of the film the phone gets destroyed! One of my Prop Team 3D printed the parts of the phone that could not be purchased on line and I made 4 of them for the movie. One Hero one that had a working dial and moving Hand Set Cradle, one Hero that looked good just sitting, one stunt one that could be thrown around and one "Broken" one for use in the final scene. I am not sure but the one with on moving parts, just 3D printed ABS probably only cost $10 in material.

Regarding authentic looking ancient hardware by the way, if you don't already know about them, Clouterie Rivierre makes Blued Steel Diamond-Head Forged Nails that are machine made Roman style nails. They make great ancient looking builds. I use them in woodworking projects. Use them as is, or cut the heads off for just the look. I get mine (US) at Lee Valley Tools. Lee Valley also sells cut nails which are an early form of nails from about the early 1800s till wire nails were invented. They look old timely too. Enjoying the marathons. Great time of year for them!

Derek, I liked the pirate's chest prop, but thought it might look a little better with handles. How difficult would it be to add handles on the sides? Would it be better to have some mechanism, like some kind of bolts through the side to be a better anchoring mechanism?

8:36 that EVA foam.... for anyone that doesn't know, if you can't get your plastic to stick to other plastic, like roughing it up with sandpaper or scratches doesn't work (odd curves/valleys) use a bit of EVA foam.. the foam glues to plastic (sandwiching plastic to plastic) very well.

Any chance you could explain to the hubby why I keep “junk, and garbage”. 😂 He has seen me get excited when I get this look 🤔 run away, and come back with the perfect item. For what I /we are working on. Not to say he does crafts or decorations, but my hoarding “junk and garbage”, has been beneficial to him as well., because I saved the things he threw away and I retrieved. Still he maintains that I store “junk and garbage”. I see that you too must have an area you store stuff that you know will be the perfect thing to fit your project. If only I could convince him! 😂😂

Hey great video i do have an idea that could lead to a funny story. So your dynamite have an lde light on one of the fuse. The with a candle prop or that burning log set it up as an Old prospector place the crate of tnt or a candle don't and pass out and if you have a timer you make the fuse light at random times.

What could you use as aging on the dynamite labels if you don’t have coffee? Would acrylic paint work mixed with water?
@VanOaksProps

It could, but may not work as well since acrylic paint gets a bit weird when it’s thinned down that much. I’d recommend grabbing some inexpensive ground coffee from the dollar store and save the paint.
