It's an awesome trauma kit bag! I have the very one you showcased. You can cram a TON of gear in that bad boy. The price is excellent for the quality you get. Just add some chest seals, celox combat gauze, triangle bandage, replace the RATS TQ with a CAT (IMHO) The rats is way too skinny and will do a lot of damage in the wrong hands. Extra tape is a must. Duct tape is amazing! Throw one of those cheap emergency blankets in as well. They are dirt cheap & work wonders. Maybe a chem-light. They last for hours. Most importantly, train in these items. Take some courses. They offer them almost everywhere. You never know, the life you save may be your own... or a loved one.

ICU nurse here, agree with suggestions. Would also add different sized tegaderm can be used as a seal. Also 5x9 abd pads and maybe rolled gauze. I would also move your bandaids to the zippered pouch, you aren’t going to have to rush to get bandaids, so they shouldn’t take up prime real estate.

Would also get rid of the foreign object removal tools. That is not the type of care that should be administered in the field and can do a LOT of damage.

My husband is an EMT and he says every ambulance he has been in carries petroleum gauze instead of actual chest seals because they are cheaper and basically do the same thing. I know you said you wanted to get chest seals and I wanted to mention that as an option since the petroleum gauze and tape method is a whole lot cheaper, especially if you plan to have redundant trauma kits. I believe Skinny Medic did a video a few years ago showing how to do it, but I could be mistaken about who it was.

I’ve been a trauma nurse longer than I care to mention. A scalpel is handy, butterfly strips, super glue to glue lacerations together, tongue depressors for finger splints, buddy taping a injured finger to the one beside it will immobilize it pretty well. A thermometer, as many rolls of gauze as you have room for, more than one roll of medical tape, a pair of forceps. With limited room these are just a few ideas. You never have enough gear so good luck in the field people. Also 2x2s and 4x4s non sterile is ok if you have the sterile ones, as many as you can fit.

From my WFR class I'd recommend a Write in the Rain pad and pen. Absolutely necessary to write things down in a first aid scenario. Name, age, meds, last time meds taken, plus what you do. Taking vitals. When/if you have to pass off a patient to EMS it'll be a great help.

😎👍💖 Cool kit 2:34 It would be more effective / locate kits..... if those Horizontal Bands were with Labelling strips... example burn section / laceration section / etc etc. 3:57 That is a cool Foreign Object removal kit...where you get that? (does it come with a Tick removal key)?

Cool kit Tim. Thanks for sharing. I would add some duct tape, eye drops, butterfly closures or equivalent, pain relievers and other meds. I always carry a small sam splint for broken/sprained fingers. Badger Balm also has some great ointments, sore muscle rub, headache soother, etc... I love my Vanquest gear!

Lucky for me being a medic I didn't have to buy a kit for my vehicle ( wal mart fishing soft tackle box) . I just raided the store room or grabbed shit off the truck. :P that stuff can get really expensive, and the only downfall is that most stuff like Saline or Nitro only have a 1 year shelf life and its really hard to cop a bottle of nitro tht only has a few more. I try to grab em when is 3 or 4 left, because you can only give someone 3 nitro anyways One thing I would like to suggest to people if you don't want to spend alot of money on a CAT or any other tourniquet, is a D-ring belt. You can wrap it around a leg or arm, put a stick in and twist it until the bleeding stops, and then secure that stick or bar with an ace bandage or gauze

Are those gloves black? I just heard a medic say not to use black for emergencies because blood wont show up on the gloves in low light situations when looking for injuries

The only reason I say that is people think they are medical without any training. If your are that's awesome. If your not you dont need chest seals, medications or Tourniquets al
@auntkaz4224 жыл бұрын
You don't have to be an EMT to have training on how to use a torniquet or chest seal. Being able to stop bleeding before the EMT gets there could very well save a person's life and these skills are especially important in the current time! Sorry dude, I'm not going to let someone bleed out just because I'm not an EMT!

First off, ditch the black gloves. You don’t need them unless you’re SOF operating in a tactical, no light / visibility situation. There should be absolutely no reason for a city to wear these. Get yourself at least 3 prs blue nitrile gloves like they wear in the ER. Allows you to see blood, consistency of fluids etc. Bin the RATS TQ and replace with a CAT or a SOF T in orange. Again no need to buy black. You’re a civy. All kits should be built around what you’re planning to do, how long for, how close professional medical treatment care is, weather conditions, how many people with you? I would also add a petroleum gauze pad - this can be used to seal a chest wound in place of a dedicated chest seal. Add a survival blanket. Decide which protocols you want to follow ie. MARCH and then orientate your kit accordingly, last but not least, train! Get on a course. I really like pro wilderness type courses because in addition to learning valuable skills, they also force you to learn to improvise. You can’t carry the kitchen sink so learn how to adapt what you have to supplementing the kit you are carrying. And please, please never ever carry medical kit that you are not trained or legally allowed to use or administer. Plenty of nut jobs out there who think it’s cool to carry needles for decompression. Unless they’re docs or certified paramedics for their state, they’re crying out for a law suit.
