I think that a lot of us RC fans can relate to not having as much money to buy all the things we want. I’m one of them and it’s refreshing that someone else on KZbin can talk about that and still make awesome videos with content that people want. Keep it going!

I run desert lizards on a lot of my rigs. This is the best set up I have found. Several other people have had great success with this setup as well . Run only the softest springs. Long one pushing up Medium pulling down. 1/3 droop. Makes for a killer truck 🛻

Another good video. Lizards get a bad rap from the know it alls but I like them. I have 100s on my H10 set up semi droop with soft/soft springs and 45 weight and run nothing but technical terrain. The skocks work great, but I did clean them well and use lots of green snot when putting them together. I also found the 1 Tenth Scale F10 link riser helped climbing and spent $12 on 4 Injora stainless high clearance lower links with Traxxas rod ends. With 5.25 Tusks, I am really happy.

I ran the lizards on a comp truck and 1 trail truck. If you set them up properly their amazing. i ran 30wt with the 2 hole seal to slow movement. For spring i run the shortest light spring on top of valve, then i run the longest soft underneath to kinda help push shock shaft back up but not quickly the trucks weight does most of the work. This setup is known as a droop setup. But each rig will require different setup.

I love desert lizard shocks. I run them on several rigs. I prefer the 90mm at full droop.
@Tyrells_Tiny_Trucks11 күн бұрын
I put desert lizards on my optic, but was only happy with them after putting the Vanquish short rod ends on to keep the same uptravel with more downtravel and articulation. As they come, they raised the CG too much for me. Spring tuning was a pain too, as I don't like the way the springs limit travel, and I shortened them. The struggle with an Optic is wanting low CG AND breakover ability, while being constrained by the shock mounting locations.
@HobbyDrop11 күн бұрын
@@Tyrells_Tiny_Trucks yeah the mounting location’s are pretty minimal. Kinda a bummer!

I think the real benefit to the desert lizards is they don’t leak. So I set mine up to feel just like the stock ones. I also feel that the internal spring that is supposed to hold the truck down, actually just lifts the high side tire instead.
@HobbyDrop12 күн бұрын
@@ShoddyRC so when you say you set them up like the stock ones, do you mean with little droop?
@ShoddyRC12 күн бұрын
@@HobbyDrop I mean more the feel of them, when cycling them in my hand. Which for me, I think was 35 wt. oil and the 3 hole internal seal. I sold VRD carbon I had them on, and I don’t remember which springs I used. I want to say it was the softest medium length spring for the first spring, and no “suck down” spring around the shaft.
@mikedubree206412 күн бұрын
120mm desert lizards in rear full drop 70w oil , 90mm desert lizards front full drop 70w oil, high clearance bottom links , 63% weight front and 37% rear with brass , 5.25-5.4 tires, 30% overdrive will crawl great!

I have done much playing and modding with my DL's. It all depends on axle weight and chassis weight. I have played with stiffer on the back and stiffer on the front. I feel like i have both my rigs the way I want now. On my vrd carbon Im running 35w oil with the 4 hole disks and 3 holes are custom tuned. Im running a fairly light setup with the stock plastick f10s with the stock front weights and a triple 7 and heavier tire inserts with 1.9s and 4.75. All this stuff matters for shock tuning. Im also currently running a revolver with stock trans setup. I run both front and rear shocks the same. 90mm with the lightest springs. The short springs for bump travel and medium springs for droop springs. In most teperatures, this seems to work the best for me. If it is really hot, i would change to a 4 hole disk but only 2 holes customized. For my other rig im running, its quite heavy. 8.5 lbs custom ti buggy i made from scratch with 120mm DL's. It is running a lot of brass on the front so the aluminum axel is quite heavy with 2.2 cut n shut with brass rings and heavy inserts. Steel dive shafts and all. 3 gear trans and heavier motor as well, causing more chassis weight. But i am also running suck down winches so that changes things with my droop spring setup. When running no suck down winch, in the front i would run the medium stiffness medium length droop spring with a medium stifness short spring for bump travel and 4 hole discs with 2 holes custom and 40w oil. In the rear, i run soft medium length droop spring with medium tension short spring for bump travel. Hard to explain in text but hope this makes sense 😂. I enjoy doing hard tech lines going both up and down. There have been many lines not possible with stock shocks that i have completed with DL. Also the ti buggy has nearly 90 degrees of flex and is insane for the lines i can do because of that

I think if ya set them to full drop they wouldn't unload as much. A lot of people also run them upside down for better lcg. Set up four blocks. Set your truck on it upside down. If your truck unloads put heavier shock oil in it. Boomslang suspension suss has some really good videos on shock tuning.

I’ve had 6 vanquish trucks, 4 kits and 2 rtr. Some s8e shocks leak more than others, but they all leaked on me. Maybe it’s the dry air in Utah. Eventually I settled on running them dry so i don’t have to keep cleaning it up.
