Thank you so much ! The knees are closer to one another in the back piercing kick and a bit away from one another in turning side kick . Further the torso is turned more in the direction of the target in turning side kick . Thank you once again for explaining ...

Pure excellence once again! Bonus points for probably the most accurate differentiation between a back kick and reverse side kick. Thanks! Might also be useful to add that the back kick can be effectively hidden (and fast!) when used as a 2nd or 3rd kick in a combo. E.g. a round house (that we might deliberately let blocked) which steps forward and continue turning to a back kick (all one fluid turning motion). One of my favorite kicks :)

Getting over an Achilles tendinitis. Years and mileage is a bad combination. Great kicks. I have been through Taekwon Do, Shorin Ryu, Kick boxing , JiuJitsu. Wish I still had your flexibility. Front snap and thrust , kicks and the turning back kicks still work for me., along with side kicks. Have good flexibility for high axe kicks . Lost a friend and training g buddy to cancer twenty years ago. At his funeral I promised myself that in his memory I would keep going until I couldn’t stand up on my own. You inspire me . Thanks

For some reason, my TKD school doesn't teach this kick. Instructor says "donkey" kicks, are not real kicks??? They teach the spinning back side kick, which is similar.
@VanRoonMartialArts
@VanRoonMartialArts 4 жыл бұрын
That seems unusual to me! This kick is a standard kick. Just google back kick or back piercing kick! Or cut and paste the Korean or Japanese from the title into google :D I find the advantage of a back kick or donkey kick as you describe it is you can throw it from closer range and it is also more direct / quicker rather than coming around it goes straight up and under as you spin through.
@Twobarpsi
@Twobarpsi 4 жыл бұрын
@@VanRoonMartialArts you did a great job explaining the difference between the back kick and side kick, thank you! That was always so confusing! I will re-ask the instructor why we aren't learning this kick, because I see it is very powerful, and many other schools teach it. One reason he said, that I remember, is he doesn't want us turning our back to an opponent. Now, keep in mind, our school does not compete in competitions, and apparently emphasizes the "hard style". His words were "donkey kick", not mine, as I feel that description of this kick diminishes it as a technique. I'm not trying to diminish it! This is the first video I have watched from you, and have subscribed. You have a great technique, and are a genius, at explaining every step. Much respect to you!!
@coopersheldon394
@coopersheldon394 Ай бұрын
Please do not look at the back kick target when you throw it. Every fraction of a second counts. Start with repeated back kicks in a row from the same foot while you are looking in the other direction. That will give you a feel for where your kick lands and halve the time, as well as increase the power for it. If a vietnam veteran spins you like a corkscrew and immediately closes in to take your back, etc., that ability to throw it accurately and quickly without looking at it will protect you and defeat them; trust me on that. As you start to turn, look out of the corner of your eyes. Again, even with the frameskipping here multiplying your virtual speed as it did the shotokan karate people, I can still see it coming just like I did with them.

He didn’t want to but the 6’4 245 pound guy rushed him and he did this same back kick and broke the guys ribs... he didn’t get up and the ambulance had to come get him. My buddy poor guy was so upset cause he hurt the guy but I told him if you hadn’t defended yourself this guy would have killed you...
