I'm not sure I'm happy with skateboarding becoming an olympic sport but the good outcome is that they invested a lot in skateboarding in Japan lately and it really pays off, especially in women comps. The riders from other countries had to catch up and try gnarlier and gnarlier stuff and eventually the level raised like crazy in the last 2 years and now the level in women comps is not that far from the level in men comps. It's nice to witness that, in less than 10 years we might finally see few women competing with men.

@dormeur20092010 I remember women’s skateboarding used to bore me. I always felt that girls were holding back a lot and only going as hard as they needed to in comps. But I’ve been so thrilled by the women’s events from the past two years. Good to see the “girl skater” stereotypes broken.

I live in koga, ibaraki japan hour north of tokyo and theres a skatepark here called axis and i go there most weekends and theres 9 and 11 year old girls doing blunts on massive shit and gapping a massive pool. The park has a full pipe and the level of talent in japan is insane

What’s funny is how these highlights compare to the men’s highlights. There’s literally no competition the dudes shred way harder which is cool. I still fully support women in skating I just felt like someone had to say it.
