Man, I still remember some class mates in school taking out the almost hand printed Vans catalogue where you could custom order your pair. To me that seemed absolutely crazy back then. Hardly anyone knew of Vans back then here in Germany, that was in the early to mid 80s. Of course those kids were into punk rock and skateboarding and had a mystic aura around them.... good times

Anyway I'd take any low-cut Vans shoe with the padded ankle collar, it makes for a good addition to an extremely comfortable shoe. A long time ago, I bought my first of a long line of vans I bought. Cant remember the name of that pair of vans. They where blue, and had a stretch thing inside that stretched when u put them on. Appreciate this re-cap but flawed. Vans had four original partners, they didn't hail from Anaheim, rather South Boston, MA (originally), emergence from Chapter 11 was not a miracle, rather a gut-wrenching period of revised leadership, staff and cost reductions, and so much more that is deserves mentioning....but I'll leave it here.
