Jeff Grosso is highly admirable because of the encyclopedic knowledge of skate history he possesses. He has also been fortunate enough to have lived through it all, so access to him is not difficult. The newer generation like myself, has to dig to find all of this old history and consider how it shapes the culture today. Thank you Grosso for being a guide into the yesteryears. The thing I admire about you most is that you approach skateboarding with an ideology, a philosophy, and a fucking idea about what skateboarding means. Too many people today don't think about skateboarding from any kind of perspective and these same people end up doing "steezed" out flips because everybody else is doing it, like damn zombies. We suffer as an unlearned skate culture, out of touch with our foundation, put up for consumption, so we have nothing to build on in terms of actual community, and we all end up doing is meme-ifying content. and that too, WTF is CONTENT! It's so fucking capitalistic to think of skateboarding in terms of trick production and output. I wish we could just share ourselves as skaters, our true selves, no matter how stupid, or boring, or crazy our personality, and by extension our skateboarding. Fuck this, i'ma go skate before I start writing a damn essay on the subject.

Jeff hope this is an up lifter, here is one gal who's medicine is skateboarding. I couldn't get outside until I found skating, I struggle with many issues, survivors guilt one of them cause I had cancer as a kid. And skateboarding gives me another day, when I battle with depression and want to kick off, my little wooden friend says in my ear, "well if you do that you can't skate tomorrow, if you stick around at least you get to skate. It brings me new hope, so they can spend all they like, not getting in my head. You rock Jeff, I love loveletters.

I hope that skateboarding leaves such a bad impression in the olympic comittees mouth that it gets banned. I can already see a future where soccer moms become skate moms, and elitist entitled adolescents will dictate to us how "skating should be." Skaters will divide into factions, and the colympic skaters" will be like, "Well we don't need your brands, we'll make our own!" Then they will begin to rain upon the public a pasteurized, family friendly variant of skating that will run our brands that we love out of business, leaving us reminiscing of "how skating was." (Kinda like Grosso lol.) Some of us will hang up our Quasi boards for some olympic wood because it's better than not skating, while the rest of us will choose to fall on our blades, (kill ourselves, not rollerblade, yeet) knowing we had a good run. Kill me now. Please.
@Arrica1017 жыл бұрын
winsomelosenone I actually can't wait to see it at the Olympics, drugs testing skaters, I don't fucking think so. here comes Johnny right out of the pub and onto his board. It will make a complete mockery of the whole thing. who ever thought of taking it to the Olympics is a fucking moron

Didn't skateboarding already lose its cool card and underground status from the X-Games? Kind of like tattoos going from biker gangs and hardened criminals in the 1960s & 1970s, to today with 100 lb Soccer Moms with full tat sleeves. It doesn't carry the same heaviness.

There are generations of folks that were completely marginalized,fringe dwellers who often had to break the law to do it. Guys and gals who got arrested if lucky, beaten up and arrested if not. Folks who are cool with all that so then created accessibility for those who followed. Multiple skate parks in most city's. The underground nature of things has changed obviously, and I guess that's okay. Don't speak for all. But I wouldn't change it all if I could. Grosso was a treasure. Jeff, I am getting so ghey for you after starting to watch these. I am sort of a pirate and innovator in the drone community and we are dealing with similar cultural pains that skateboarding has already lived through. We have passionate pirates enjoying a status quo and it's getting sold out. It's been enlightening to find parallels and similarities between your insights and what I see in other aspects of my life. I wish there was someone like you in the drone industry speaking out and telling it how it is and helping define the culture for the community before it gets way out of hand we end up riding popsicles for decades in stagnation and hating on each other.
