Great job, I was about to say you'll need something inside to protect the wood from getting so hot at the top, plus a cowell....and you are done. Really good job. You'll love it in the colder weather, and all the hassle will be well worth it....enjoy! Be well

Thanks Bry, I'm away this weekend so it might get some Alcan over it temporarily ;)

Just being Bry...I think the flange that goes around the flue pipe, attaches to the ceiling and provides another layer of metal around the flue pipe up inside the ceiling is ominously named a "fire stop".

Looks good, if I may suggest, good practice is to do initial burn outside so it can burn off any oils in manufacturing. Secondly a double insulated pipe allows for air intake and does not get burning hot. With my setup I will warm my feet with socks on and put feet directly on the pipe for a few seconds. Gets feet toasty in seconds!

I love your low chimney (although I'd probably use a double insulated flu where it goes through the roof). I'm trying to find out whether there's any problems with a short chimney vs a longer one. Has it caused you any problems?
@VanSolo-uk5 жыл бұрын
I faffed about with rain caps for a while and ended up with this, facebook.com/vansolo.uk/photos/pcb.643030662822868/643030462822888 It's important to get a good draw otherwise it's inefficient (and your roof goes black) The only thing I have to watch now is if I leave a window cracked, it needs to be on the side the wind is coming from, other wise it can pull fumes back in, I imagine that issue reduces the longer the chimney is.

Single skin, uninsulated flue pipe must be at least three times OD from combustible materials, for example 125mm single skin flue pipe must be 3x125= 375mm, twin wall would have been a lot safer to use, the clearance you have at the top would have been OK with it. You need to put fire board behind the stove with a 12mm air flow behind it and conbustibles to stop heat exchange, and put a fender in front to stop embers falling from that high fire box onto the floor it looks like you have coir matting on yours, stay safe.
@VanSolo-uk6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, I have read these guide lines but the physics don't scale down. the diameter IS related to the heat radiated.... but in relation to PI so while the (3x) generally covers household stoves ... it's overkill for small stuff. eg. my 3" pipe has a 25% of the sectional flow area of a 6" household flue and in theory should only require a quarter of the clearance. That's on paper .... and practical testing seems to reflect these numbers. ... I am however having to rethink my ceiling hole ;) Regards Mc

Hi ya, Great Videos to date, Thank you. SSSOOOOOoooo !, Lots of questions like - How’s the Stove performance since installed, What do you burn, Any idea how hot the Actual Stove it’s self AND the Flue gets ?, How long does it burn for on a Full stoke, More importantly Are you happy with it’s installation or is there anything you would have done differently. Look forward to the follow up video if there is one Matey, Stay Safe, Stay warm & Hope to catch you again soon. Regards Paul.
@VanSolo-uk6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul :) I've made a few changes since this video and want to do a follow up shortly. I use dead fall & pallets if they're available but I've found the fire logs you get in wax paper the most consistent and easy to manage/store, I can get a couple of hours out of half of one. The stove thermometer runs between 150c and 300c ( don't know how accurate it is) .... the flue would send you to hospital.

The stove looks really good quality. I have talked to folk that have had a real problem convincing their insurance companies that a wood stove is safe in a van. From what I understand, many folk do not advise their insurers but does that not risk invalid insurance cover? Common sense would suggest contacting insurers before installation? Was your insurance company happy with the stove?

Can you run that stove all night? Or is it unsafe to do so with carbon monoxide and whatever?
@VanSolo-uk6 жыл бұрын
I used a CO meter for the first month and it was fine Taylor, you would have to refuel every couple of hours to run it through the night. I just let it burn out once I'm in my bag, I'm really pleased with it :) ... I need to do a follow up video really.
