I am still suffering from it's side effects after taking it in 2009. The effects were immediate for me, I didn't feel like smoking the from the day I started taking the drug. As time went on I developed a headache which no pain reliever could block, the doctor told me to reduce the dose but to do the full 3 month protocol. After the protocol the headaches got worse, and I become allergic to almost everything I ate. I could not feel emotions. I went through red traffic lights and stops signs. I was basically transformed from a very fit (apart from my smoking) and active multitasking professional electronics engineer, into a zombie with chronic diarrhea who spent all his time with his head in his hands resting on the coffee table. I suffered like this to 10 years, nothing doctors did helped in any way. Finally I found the carnivore diet, and that has helped me establish a new normal; last year I could finally say that I could drive a car like I used to, I can snowboard for half a day and I can run for a few minutes at a time. Sometimes a try a cigarette to see what the effect is and to this day, it has no mental effect at all. My brain/body has been permanently damaged by this drug.

It sounds like you have had a profoundly difficult experience with severe side effects from a medication that you took in 2009, which appears to have had a lasting impact on your health and well-being. This situation is incredibly challenging, and it’s clear that it has significantly affected your life. Given the symptoms you described, it’s possible that you were taking a medication such as varenicline (marketed as Chantix) or another smoking cessation drug. These medications can have serious side effects for some individuals, though your experience seems particularly severe and prolonged. Here are a few steps that might help you manage and further understand your condition: 1. **Detailed Medical Review**: If you haven’t already, consider seeking a thorough review from a specialist, such as a neurologist or a specialist in pharmacology, to reassess your symptoms and long-term effects. They may suggest advanced diagnostic tests to better understand the underlying issues. 2. **Toxicology and Pharmacogenomics**: Investigate if you can undergo toxicology screening and pharmacogenomic testing. These tests might help determine if you have a specific genetic makeup that could explain your severe reaction to the medication. 3. **Dietary Adjustments and Gut Health**: Your improvement on the carnivore diet suggests that your gut health plays a significant role in your overall well-being. Continuing to focus on an anti-inflammatory diet and possibly incorporating a specialist in functional medicine or a dietitian who understands your unique situation may be beneficial. 4. **Mental Health Support**: The emotional and cognitive symptoms you described are significant. Working with a mental health professional who has experience with medication-induced conditions might help you develop strategies to cope with and potentially improve these symptoms. 5. **Legal and Advocacy Support**: If you believe that your condition resulted from the medication, you might want to consult with a legal professional to discuss potential avenues for seeking recourse. Additionally, patient advocacy groups might offer support and resources. 6. **Holistic and Integrative Medicine**: Exploring integrative medicine approaches that combine traditional and alternative therapies could offer some relief. Practices like acupuncture, meditation, and certain supplements (always under medical supervision) might support your recovery. 7. **Ongoing Monitoring and Adaptation**: It’s important to continually monitor your health and adjust your strategies as needed. Keeping a detailed health diary, noting any changes or patterns in your symptoms, diet, and activities, can provide valuable insights over time. Your experience highlights the importance of personalized medicine and the need for healthcare providers to take patients’ reports of side effects seriously. It’s commendable that you have found ways to manage and improve your condition despite the challenges, and I hope these suggestions can offer additional pathways to better health.
